Proposed ban on the use of TikTok on the work devices of public employees.

Cosc molta ar úsáid TikTok ar ghléasanna oibre fostaithe poiblí.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that he understands that concerns have been expressed about how information collected on TikTok is used and how it is passed on.

Tá sé ráite ag an Taoiseach Leo Varadkar go dtuigeann sé go bhfuil imní léirithe faoin gcaoi a n-úsáidtear eolas a bhailítear ar TikTok agus faoin tslí a gcuirtear ar aghaidh é.

He was speaking in Cork, after the National Cyber Security Center advised government departments and state organizations that TikTok should not be allowed on the work devices of public employees.

Ag caint i gCorcaigh a bhí sé, tar éis don Lárionad Náisiúnta Cibearshlándála comhairle a chur ar ranna rialtais agus eagraíochtaí stáit nár chóir TikTok a cheadú ar ghairis oibre fostaithe poiblí.

The use of TikTok was recently banned on public works devices in the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States.

Cuireadh cosc ar úsáid TikTok le gairid ar ghléasanna oibrithe poiblí sa Ríocht Aontaithe, san Aontas Eorpach agus sna Stáit Aontaithe.

TikTok is owned by a Chinese company and concerns have been expressed around the world about cyber security on the platform.

Is le comhlacht de chuid na Síne é TikTok agus tá imní léirithe ar fud an domhain maidir le cibearshlándáil ar an ardáin.

Coming on the heels of the ban in other countries, the government in Ireland announced a few months ago that they were to seek fresh advice on the issue and the National Cyber Security Center undertook a technical assessment of TikTok.

Ag teacht sna sála ar an gcosc sna tíortha eile, d’fhógair an rialtas in Éirinn cúpla mí ó shin go raibh siad le comhairle úr a lorg ar an gceist agus thug an Lárionad Náisiúnta Cibearshlándála faoi mheasúnú teicniúil ar TikTok.

The Taoiseach indicated, however, that it must be recognized that the company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, provides a lot of investment for this country and that the company employs many people in Ireland.

Thug an Taoiseach le fios, áfach, go gcaithfear a aithint go gcuireann an comhlacht ByteDance, gur leosan TikTok, go leor infheistíochta ar fáil don tír seo agus go bhfuil go leor daoine fostaithe ag an gcomhlacht in Éirinn.

But even so, he said, expert advice cannot be ignored.

Ach mar sin fhéin, a dúirt sé, ní féidir neamhaird a thabhairt ar chomhairle saineolaithe.

According to the advice of the Cyber Security Centre, TikTok should not be placed on public workstations, unless it is absolutely necessary, from the point of view of the organization’s business.

De réir chomhairle an Lárionaid Chibearshlándála, níor chóir TikTok a chur ar ghairis oibirthe poiblí, ach amháin sa gcás go bhfuil géarghá ag baint leis, ó thaobh ghnó na heagraíochta de.

That advice is in line with the ban put in place by the European Commission.

Tá an chomhairle sin ag teacht leis an gcosc atá curtha i bhfeidhm ag an gCoimisiún Eorpach.

In a statement today, TikTok expressed its disappointment at the announcement and said it had not been contacted before the decision was made.

I ráiteas inniu, thug TikTok le fios gur údar díomá é an fógra seo agus dúirt siad nach ndearnadh aon teagmháil leosan sular glacadh an cinneadh.

The concern about the amount of information that the authorities in China have access to through TikTok is intensifying.

Tá ag géarú ar an imní faoin méid eolais go bhfuil fáil ag na húdaráis sa tSín air trí TikTok.

To alleviate that concern, TikTok said they would be willing to store European user data in two data centers in Dublin and a third in Norway.

Chun an imní sin a mhaolú, dúirt TikTok go mbéidís toilteanach sonraí úsáideoirí na hEorpa a stóráil i ndá ionad sonraí i mBaile Átha Cliath agus sa tríú hionad san Iorua.
