Diocese of Raphoe seeking adjournment of ceremonies.

Deoise Ráth Bhoth ag iarraidh searmanais a chur ar athló.

The Diocese of Raphoe is calling on parishes and schools to postpone the ceremonies for First Communion and Confirmation.

Tá Deoise Ráth Bhoth ag iarraidh ar pharóistí agus ar scoileanna na searmanais don Chéad Chomaoineach agus don Chóineartú a chur ar athló.

That is until clear direction has come from the government regarding the opening of the churches.

Sin go dtí go mbeidh treoir shoiléir tagtha ón rialtas maidir le hoscailt na séipéal.

Bishop Alan McEochagan Bishop of that diocese, Alan McEochagan, said that community homes should not be entered directly when restrictions are relaxed as the ceremonies themselves are ‘more involved’.

An tEaspag Alan Mac Eochagáin Dúirt an tEaspag ar an deoise sin, Alan Mac Eochagáin, nach ceart dul díreach isteach i dtithe pobail nuair a bheidh na srianta maolaithe mar go bhfuil ‘níos mó i gceist’ leis na searmanais féin.

He also said that he is very disappointed that the public will have missed Easter Easter because of the restrictions.

Dúirt sé chomh maith go bhfuil díomá mór air go mbeidh Seachtain Mhór na Cásca caillte ag an phobal de bharr na srianta.

‘We urge parishes and schools to postpone both ceremonies until we know exactly what is going on.

‘Támidinne ag iarraidh ar pharóistí agus ar scoileanna an dá shearmanas a chur ar athló go dtí go mbeidh a fhios againne caidé go díreach atá ag dul ar aghaidh.

We have to wait until things are clearer, and follow the instructions of the health services’ he said.

Caithimid fanacht go dtí go bhfuil rudaí níos soiléire, agus cloí le treoracha na seirbhísí sláinte’ a dúirt sé.

Two days ago, the Diocese of Derry announced that First Communion and Confirmation would be postponed until September as there were fears that Covid- 19 rates would rise as a result of parties following these ceremonies.

Dhá lá ó shin, d’fhógair Deoise Dhoire go gcuirfí An Chéad Chomaoineach agus an Cóineartú siar go dtí Meán Fómhair mar go rabh eagla ansin go n-ardódh na rátaí covid 19 mar thoradh ar chóisirí a leanfadh na searmanais sin.

On the morning as schools retired for Easter, parish teachers and priests in the diocese of Raphoe were reluctant to announce any decision on the ceremonies until more definite guidance came from the diocese.

Ar maidin agus scoileanna ag scor don Cháisc, bhí leisce ar mhúinteoirí agus ar shagairt paróiste i ndeoise Ráth Bhoth cinneadh ar bith faoi na searmanais a fhógairt go dtí go dtiocfadh treoir níos cinnte ón deoise.

However, it is understood that a large number of schools have proposed the same arrangement as this time last year, namely to postpone the ceremonies until the Autumn.

Ach tuigtear go bhfuil líon mór de scoileanna a bhfuil an socrú céanna beartaithe acu is a bhí an t-am seo anuraidh, sé sin na searmanais chur siar go dtí an Fómhar.

Bishop McEochagan also said that he is very disappointed that the public will not be able to celebrate the Holy Week ceremonies together in public.

Dúirt an tEaspag Mac Eochagáin chomh maith go bhfuil an-díomá air féin nach mbeidh an pobal in ann searmanais na Seachtaine Móire a cheiliúradh le chéile go poiblí.

Holy Week is the most central and important week in the life of Christianity and I am very disappointed that the community – or even a small community – will not be present at the ceremonies.

Is í an tSeachtain Mhór an tseachtain is lárnaí agus is tábhachtaí i saol na Críostaíochta agus tá an-díomá ormsa nach mbeidh an pobal -nó fiú pobal beag – istigh ag na searmanais.
