Leinster joys and permanent site found for Gaelscoil.

Lúcháir Laighean agus suíomh buan aimsithe do Ghaelscoil.

Parents and local representatives, they say, are delighted that Dún Laoghaire / Rathdown county councilors have agreed to sell a land site to the Department of Education which will include a permanent building for a Gaelscoil in South Dublin.

Tá rímeád ar thuismitheoirí agus ar ionadaithe áitiúla, a deir siad, go bhfuil sé aontaithe ag comhairleoirí contae Dhún Laoghaire/Ráth an Dúin suíomh talún a dhíol leis an Roinn Oideachais ar a mbeidh foirgneamh buan do Ghaelscoil i nDeisceart Bhaile Átha Cliath.

Gaelscoil Laighean was established in 2019, an all – Irish, multi – denominational school to serve children in the Blackrock area and the Booterstown area in the south of the city.

I 2019 a bunaíodh Gaelscoil Laighean, scoil illchreidmheach lán Ghaeilge le freastal ar pháistí i gceantar na Carraige Duibhe agus ceantar Bhaile an Bhóthair i ndeisceart na cathrach.

13 children started the school and today there are almost 40 attending.

13 páiste a thosaigh sa scoil agus inniu tá beagnach 40 ag freastal uirthí.

The school has since been temporarily located in Deansgrange but the lease will expire at the end of this school year.

I nGráinseach an Déin atá an scoil lonnaithe ar bhonn sealadach ó shin ach tiocfaidh deireadh leis an léas ag deireadh na scoilbhliana seo.

Last night Dún Laoghaire / Rathdown County Council voted in favor of selling a 1.1 acre land site on Merrion Hill to the Department of Education at a cost of € 4.5 million to provide a permanent site for Gaelscoil Laighean.

Aréir vótáil Comhairle Chontae Dhún Laoghaire/Ráth an Dúin ar son suíomh talún 1.1 acra ar Chnoc Mhuirfeann a dhíol leis an Roinn Oideachais ar chostas €4.5 milliún le suíomh buan a chur ar fáil do Ghaelscoil Laighean.

“We weren’t supposed to be here for that long but that’s what happened” said school Principal Aoife Ní Scolaí.

“Ní raibh muid ceaptha a bheith anseo chomh fada sin ach sin mar a thárla” a dúirt Príomhoide na scoile Aoife Ní Scolaí.

“The parents had a long campaign.

“Bhí feachtas mór fada ag na tuismitheoirí.

It was very hard on the school community not knowing where we were going.

Bhí sé an-dian ar fad ar phobal na scoile gan fios a bheith acu cá mbeadh muid ag dul.

A school cannot grow or develop if it does not know where it is going. ‘ Niamh Uí Dhálaigh, a parent at the school, says that she is delighted that a permanent site has now been confirmed.

Ní féidir le scoil fás ná forbairt mura bhfuil a fhios aici cá bhfuil sí ag dul.’ Deir Niamh Uí Dhálaigh, tuismitheoir sa scoil go bhfuil áthas an domhain uirthi go bhfuil suíomh buan deimhnithe anois.

“The parents of the school have worked hard years and we would like to thank the councilors who helped us.

“Tá blianta d’obair chrua déanta ag tuismitheoirí na scoile agus ba mhaith linn ár mbuíochas a ghabháil chomh maith leis na comhairleoirí a chabhraigh linn.

We want to be in the new school in September.

Ba mhaith linn a bheith istigh sa scoil nua i mí Meán Fómhair.

Parents think it will be a temporary building at first “says Niamh.

Measann tuismitheoirí gur foirgneamh sealadach a bheas ann ar dtús” a deir Niamh.

“We want the permanent building to be built quickly and to have an all-Irish, multi-denominational school soon.”

“Ba mhaith linn go dtógfaí an foirgneamh buan go tapaidh agus go mbeadh scoil lán-Ghaeilge, illchreidmheach againn go luath.”

It is hoped that temporary buildings for Gaelscoil Laighean will be built in September on the new site and that a permanent structure with 8 classrooms will be built as soon as possible thereafter.

Tá súil go mbeidh foirgnimh sealadacha do Ghaelscoil Laighean tógtha mí Meán Fómhair ar an suíomh nua agus go dtógfar structúr buan le 8 seomraí ranga chomh luath agus is féidir ina dhiaidh sin.

A spokesperson from the Department of Education confirmed in the evening that the design and planning work for the new school will now begin and that interim facilities will be built in time for the next school year.

Dheimhnigh urlabhraí ón Roinn Oideachais tráthnóna go dtosófar ar an obair dhearaidh agus pleanála don scoil úr anois agus go mbeidh saoráidí eatramhacha tógtha in am don chéad scoilbhliain eile.

“It’s very important that parents now have a permanent place,” says independent County Councilor Deirdre Donnelly.

“Tá sé fíor-thábhachtach go bhfuil áit bhuan anois ag tuismitheoirí” a deir an Comhairleoir Contae neamhspleách, Deirdre Donnelly.

“About half of the site on Merrion Hill is also for development for social and affordable housing” she said.

“Tá thart ar leath den suíomh ar Chnoc Mhuirfeann le forbairt do thithíocht shóisialta agus inachmhainne chomh maith” a dúirt sí.
