Briefing: another twist in the story of the Irish Language Act in the north.

Cruinniú faisnéise: cor eile i scéal Acht na Gaeilge ó thuaidh.

The British Government has reiterated its intention to introduce an Irish Language Act in the north and has invited Northern political parties to a briefing on the legislative process.

Tá sé tugtha le fios arís ag Rialtas na Breataine go bhfuil rún acu fós Acht Gaeilge a thabhairt isteach ó thuaidh agus tá cuireadh tugtha acu do pháirtithe polaitíochta an Tuaiscirt teacht chuig cruinniú faisnéise faoin bpróiseas reachtaíochta.

A letter sent by the British Government this morning to political parties states that the legislation will be introduced as soon as the time slot is available in the Westminster Parliament ‘s schedule.

I litir a sheol Rialtas na Breataine ar maidin chuig na páirtithe polaitíochta, maítear go dtabharfar an reachtaíocht isteach chomh luath agus a bheas an sliotán ama ar fáil i sceideal Pharlaimint Westminster.

The letter did not mention any date of the briefing but asked the parties to nominate their representatives.

Níor luadh aon dáta leis an gcruinniú faisnéise sa litir ach hiarradh ar na páirtithe a gcuid ionadaithe a ainmniú.

The British Government promised in the summer to pass the Irish Language Act in Westminster after Sinn Féin had indicated that they would not join the Stormont Executive again due to the DUP dragging its feet on the issue.

Gheall Rialtas na Breataine sa samhradh an tAcht Gaeilge a rith i Westminster tar éis do Shinn Féin a chur in iúl nach nglacfaidís páirt arís i bhFeidhmeannas Stormont de bharr an DUP a bheith ag tarraingt na gcos faoin gceist.

Northern Secretary of State Brandon Lewis at the time said the legislation would be introduced sometime in October but that deadline has now passed.

Dúirt Stát-Rúnaí an Tuaiscirt Brandon Lewis ag an am go dtabharfaí isteach an reachtaíocht uair éigin i mí Dheireadh Fómhair ach tá an spriocdháta sin caite anois.

The British Government has already stated that this is legislation that recognizes the diversity of the North and serves the culture and language equally of all.

Tá sé ráite cheana ag Rialtas na Breataine gur reachtaíocht í seo a thugann aitheantas d’ilghnéitheacht an Tuaiscirt agus a dhéanann friotháil chothrom ar chultúr agus ar theanga gach aon duine.

The DUP is demanding that an Irish Language Act not be introduced to resolve the issue of the Northern Protocol.

Tá an DUP ag éileamh gan Acht Gaeilge a thabhairt isteach go réiteofaí ceist Phrótacal an Tuaiscirt.
