A new bill in relation to rape has received the Government’s blessing.
Beannacht an Rialtais faighte ag bille nua i dtaca le héigniú.
The Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, has proposed a new bill in connection with cases of rape.
Tá bille nua i dtaca le cásanna éignithe beartaithe ag an Aire Dlí is Cirt,Helen McEntee.
The Government has given its blessing to the bill in relation to strengthening the law in these cases where will, knowledge and understanding are involved.
Tá an Rialtas tar éis a bheannacht don bhille maidir leis an dlí a neartú sna cásanna seo nuair a thagann toil, eolas agus tuiscint i gceist.
This will change the law as it currently stands.
Athróidh sé seo an dlí mar atá faoi láthair.
Previously it was more difficult to accuse a man of rape if he says he believed he had the woman’s will.
Roimhe seo bhí sé níos deacra éigniú a chur i leith fir má deir sé gur chreid sé go raibh toil na mná aige.
Under this new law he can no longer use that excuse.
Faoin dlí nua seo ní féidir leis an leithscéal sin a úsáid feasta.
It is also no defense for a person to say that he was drunk when he committed rape.
Ní haon chosaint ach oiread é ag duine a rá go raibh sé ar meisce nuair a chuaigh sé i mbun éignithe.
