New English-Irish Dictionary officially launched today.

The New English-Irish Dictionary published by Foras na Gaeilge over the summer is being officially launched today by the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins as part of the November Oireachtas.
Tá an Foclóir Nua Béarla-Gaeilge a dfhoilsigh Foras na Gaeilge i gcaitheamh an tsamhraidh á sheoladh go hoifigiúil inniu ag Uachtarán na hÉireann Michael D Higgins mar chuid Oireachtais na Samhna.
It is the first major English-Irish dictionary since De Baldraithe’s dictionary was published three decades ago.
Is é an chéad mhórfhoclóir Béarla- Gaeilge é ó foilsíodh foclóir De Bhaldraithe trí scór bliain ó shin.
The new dictionary contains 1,800 pages and is an abridged version of the English – Irish Dictionary available on the focloir.ie website.
Tá 1,800 leathanach san fhoclóir nua ar leagan coimrithe é den Fhoclóir Béarla-Gaeilge atá le fáil ar an suíomh idirlín focloir.ie.
The printed dictionary contains – 30,000 entries – 85,000 units of meaning – 200,000 sample phrases and sentences in Irish – a great stylistic and grammatical supplement.
San fhoclóir clóite, tá – 30,000 iontráil – 85,000 aonad céille – 200,000 frása agus abairt shamplach as Gaeilge – forlíonadh mór stíle agus gramadaí.
Speaking on RTÉ, the editor – in – chief of the dictionary, Pádraig Ó Mianáin, said that the print version was due to be made available at Easter this year but that the health crisis had delayed matters.
