Data collected from coroners in various parts of the State show that they have information regarding 44 dead people who have not been identified so far.
Léiríonn sonraí atá bailithe ó chróinéirí in áiteanna éagsúla sa Stát go bhfuil faisnéis acu maidir le 44 duine marbh nár aithníodh go dtí seo.
The Department of Justice announced today that the genetic profiles of 28 of those 44 people have been recorded in the State’s DNA Database and that database has now been made available to the public.

According to the Department, it is intended to take DNA samples from the other sixteen people as well, if possible.

The DNA Database also contains other information about the people who have not yet been identified.

It describes the clothes they were wearing when their bodies were found, the places where they were found and other distinctive signs of masculinity tattoos.

The Department also revealed today that 865 people are officially missing in the State, according to the PULSE system of the Garda Síochána.
