‘The Government faces a major challenge in relation to the 2024 Budget’ says Finance Minister Michael McGrath.
‘Tá dúshlán mór roimh an Rialtas maidir le Buiséad 2024’ a deir an tAire Airgeadais Michael McGrath.
The minister pointed out that it is not easy on one hand to give the appropriate support to the people of the country and to the economy, but on the other hand to ensure that inflation does not get worse.

Michael McGrath was speaking at the annual Dublin Chamber of Commerce dinner last night.

He said that the economy of the country was generally strong and stable against anything that has gone out of order in the international markets.

The minister also referred to the strength of the labor market here.

‘The corporate tax that has been given to the state has grown dramatically for several years’ he says ‘but this will not last forever’.
‘Tá fás as cuimse tagtha ar an gcáin chorparáideach atá tugtha don stát le roinnt blianta’ a deir sé ‘ach ní mhairfidh sé seo i gcónaí’.
‘To that end we cannot use that money to put towards permanent expenditure’ he says.

‘The government has also set aside money which it says is for capital projects’ says Michael McGrath.

Two weeks from next Tuesday (October 10) the budget will be presented to the Dáil.
