Official seal added to the Celtic connector.
Séala oifigiúil curtha leis an idirnascaire Ceilteach.
In Paris this morning, the agreement between Ireland and France about the power cable to be extended under the sea between the two countries was officially sealed.
I bPáras ar maidin inniu, cuireadh séala oifigiúil leis an gcomhaontú idir Éire agus an Fhrainc faoin gcábla cumhachta atá le síneadh faoin muir idir an dá thír.
The Celtic interconnector is the name of this major project since the cable stretches between Knockrath in Cork and Ar Merzer in Brittany.
An t-idirnascaire Ceilteach atá baiste ar an mórthogra seo ós idir Cnoc Rátha i gCorcaigh agus Ar Merzer sa Bhriotáin a bheas an cábla ag síneadh.
The interconnector has been planned since 2016 and in the Irish Embassy in Paris this morning, Climate Minister Éamon Ryan and the French Minister of Energy added their names to the final arrangements regarding its financing and construction.
Tá an t-idirnascaire á bheartú ó 2016 agus in Ambasáid na hÉireann i bPáras ar maidin, chuir an tAire Aeráide Éamon Ryan agus Aire Fuinnimh na Fraince a n- ainmneacha leis na socruithe deireanacha maidir lena mhaoiniú agus a thógáil.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin was also present at the ceremony in the embassy.
Bhí an Taoiseach Micheál Martin i láthair ag an searmanas san ambasáid chomh maith.
The Taoiseach confirmed that construction work will begin next year.
Dhearbhaigh an Taoiseach go gcuirfear tús leis an obair thógála an bhliain seo chugainn.
Minister Ryan said the proposal is part of a “renewable energy revolution” and will result in cheaper electricity charges.
Dúirt an tAire Ryan gur cuid de “réabhlóid fuinnimh in- athnuaite” an togra agus go mbeidh táillí leictreachais níos saoire dá bharr.
The submarine cable will have a capacity of 700 megawatts of electricity which will have the capacity to supply power to 450,000 homes between the two countries.
Toilleadh 700 meigeavata leictreachais a bheas sa chábla fomhuirí a mbeidh sé d’acmhainn aige cumhacht a sholáthar do 450,000 teach idir an dá thír.
€1.3 billion has been allocated under the estimated cost of the project – which is a public private partnership – but it seems that around €1.6 billion will be needed in the end.
€1.3 billiún atá lamháilte faoi thuairim chostas an togra – ar comhpháirtíocht phríobháideach phoiblí é – ach is cosúil gur thart ar €1.6 billiún a bheas ag teastáil ar deireadh.
It is estimated that the interconnector will be operational by the year 2026.
Meastar go mbeidh an t-idirnascaire ag feidhmiú faoin mbliain 2026.
