Archbishop’s petition about religious ceremonies.
Achainí ardeaspaig faoi shearmanais reiligiúnacha.
The Catholic Archbishop of Dublin has called on the Government to allow more people to attend Mass and funerals when some of the Level 5 social restrictions are eased next month.
D’iarr Ardeaspag Caitliceach Bhaile Átha Cliath ar an Rialtas ligean do thuilleadh daoine dul ar Aifreann agus ar shochraidí nuair a mhaolófar cuid de shrianta sóisialta Leibhéál 5 an mhí seo chugainn.
In his St. Patrick’s Day address yesterday, Archbishop Dermot Farrell pointed out that religious worship has a clear priority over other activities and called for recognition of the constitutional right of people to attend church ceremonies when restrictions are relaxed.
Ina aitheasc Fhéile Pádraig inné, thug an tArdeaspag Dermot Farrell le fios go bhfuil tosaíocht shoiléir ag adhradh reiligiúnach ar ghníomhaíochtaí eile agus d’achainigh sé aitheantas a thabhairt don cheart bunreachtúil atá ag daoine freastal ar shearmanais eaglasta nuair a bheas srianta á maolú.
Currently, only up to ten people are allowed to be at a funeral and Dr Farrell said such badgers are only possible in the most extreme of circumstances and for the shortest possible distance.
Faoi láthair, níl cead ach ag suas le deichniúr a bheith ar shochraid agus dúirt an Dr Farrell nach féidir broic lena leithéid ach amháin sna cúinsí is antoiscí ar fad agus ar feadh an achair is gairide agus is féidir.
Speaking on RTÉ, he said that this restriction is too restrictive and could be eased a bit while keeping people safe at the same time.
Ag labhairt dó ar RTÉ, dúirt sé go bhfuil an srian sin rórighin agus go bhféadfaí é a mhaolú beagán agus daoine a choimeád slán ag an am céanna.
He did not have to be a halam olam in churches, he thought.
Níor ghá go mbeadh sé ina holam halam i séipéil, dar leis.
Look, for example, at the success of previous events where up to fifty people were allowed to attend church ceremonies, he said.
Féach, cuir i gcás, mar a d’éirigh go maith le cúrsaí roimhe seo nuair bhí cead ag suas le leathchéad freastal ar shearmanais eaglasta, a dúirt sé.
The Archbishop pointed out that the patience of the people is being broken and that this has often been communicated to him.
Thug an tArdeaspag le fios go bhfuil ag briseadh ar fhoighne an phobail agus go bhfuil sé sin curtha in iúl ag daoine dó go minic.
