Fuel prices to be imposed from midnight.

Praghsanna breosla le daoirsiú ón meán oíche.

7 cents will be added to the price of diesel and 5 cents to the price of petrol from midnight tonight, when the increase in excise rates introduced by the Government will come into effect.

Cuirfear 7 cent le praghas díosail agus 5 cent le praghas peitril ón meán oíche anocht, tráth a thiocfas feidhm leis an ardú ar rátaí máil atá tugtha isteach ag an Rialtas.

One cent will be added to the price of agricultural land as well.

Cuirfear aon cent amháin le praghas agraidhíosail chomh maith.

Excise rates were already raised this year – at the end of May – and they are to be raised for the third time on 31 October.

Ardaíodh rátaí máil cheana i mbliana – i ndeireadh mhí na Bealtaine – agus tá siad le hardú den tríú huair ar an 31 Deireadh Fómhair.

In March 2022, with petrol and diesel prices skyrocketing, the Government decided to cut the excise duty charged on fuel.

I mí an Mhárta 2022, agus praghsanna peitril agus díosail ag daoirsiú go tréan, shocraigh an Rialtas ar an dleacht mháil a ghearrtar ar bhreosla a chiorrú.

Fuel prices were immediately freed in light of the Government’s decision but the Government now wants to bring back the excise rates that existed before March 2022.

Shaoirsigh praghsanna breosla láithreach i bhfianaise chinneadh an Rialtais ach teastaíonn ón Rialtas anois na rátaí máil a bhíodh ann roimh Mhárta 2022 a thabhairt ar ais.

The country’s fuel stations do not have to raise prices from midnight tonight.

Ní gá do stáisiúin bhreosla na tíre praghsanna a ardú on meán oíche anocht.

They can wait until they have sold their current supplies and start selling supplies on which the new excise duty has been charged.

Féadfaidh siad fanacht go mbeidh na soláthairtí atá acu faoi láthair díolta acu agus go dtosóidh siad ag díol soláthairtí a mbeidh an dleacht mháil nua gearrtha orthu.

Therefore, it is likely that prices will rise first in the country’s busiest fuel stations.

Mar sin, is dóigh gur túisce a ardófar praghsanna sna stáisiúin bhreosla is gnóthaí sa tír.

According to Tipperary Independent Dáil Mattie McGrath, the increase in excise rates should be canceled in view of the high costs facing families at the moment, especially as children go back to school.

Dar leis an Teachta Dála Neamhspleách i dTiobraid Árann Mattie McGrath gur chóir an t-ardú ar rátaí máil a chur ar ceal i bhfianaise na gcostas mór atá ar theaghlaigh faoi láthair, go háirithe agus leanaí ag dul ar ais ar scoil.

The United Farmers of Ireland recommends that the increase be suspended for the foreseeable future.

Molann Feirmeoirí Aontaithe na hÉireann an t-ardú a chur ar fionraí go ceann i bhfad.

Finance Minister Michael McGrath indicated yesterday, however, that the decision cannot be reversed.

Thug an tAire Airgeadais Michael McGrath le fios inné, áfach, nach féidir dul siar ar an gcinneadh.

However, he said the next proposed increase would be reviewed before being introduced in early winter.

Mar sin féin, dúirt sé go ndéanfaí athbhreithniú ar an gcéad ardú eile atá beartaithe sula dtabharfaí isteach é i dtús an gheimhridh.
