Hospital overcrowding is again a concern.

Plódú na n-ospidéal ina údar imní arís.

Secretary General of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Association Phil Ní Sheaghdha has said that the Health Service Executive is not tackling hospital overcrowding.

Tá sé ráite ag Ard-Rúnaí Chumann Altraí agus Ban Cabhrach na hÉireann Phil Ní Sheaghdha nach bhfuil Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte ag dul i ngleic mar is cóir le plódú na n-ospidéal.

Phil Ní Sheaghdha said that Covid-19 spreads rapidly in a large crowd and that there is currently a risk of hospitalization.

Dúirt Phil Ní Sheaghdha go scaipeann covid 19 go rábach san áit a bhfuil slua mór agus go bhfuil baol ag baint le dul chuig an ospidéal faoi láthair dá bharr sin.

According to figures released by the Association, there are 317 people waiting for hospital beds today.

De réir na bhfigiúirí atá eisithe ag an gCumann, tá 317 duine ag fanacht le leapa in ospidéil inniu.

There are 275 in emergency units and 42 in wards.

Tá 275 acu in aonaid éigeandála agus 42 i mbardaí.

The situation is worst in Limerick, with 51 people waiting for a bed.

Is i Luimneach is measa atá an scéal, mar a bhfuil 51 duine ag fanacht le leaba.

The Association is to write to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly about the situation.

Tá an Cumann chun scríobh chuig an Aire Sláinte Stephen Donnelly faoin scéal.

Speaking on RTÉ, Phil Ní Sheaghdha pointed out that more beds are needed in the health system as a whole.

Ag labhairt di ar RTÉ, thug Phil Ní Sheaghdha le fios go bhfuil níos mó leapacha ag teastáil sa chóras sláitne trí chéile.

She also recommended shifting some of the workload of public hospitals to private hospitals to alleviate the pressure on staff in public hospitals.

Mhol sí freisin cuid d’ualach oibre na n-ospidéal poiblí a aistriú go dtí ospidéil phríobháideacha leis an mbrú ar an bhfoireann sna hospidéil phoiblí a mhaolú.

She has been asking the Health Service Executive for this for three weeks, she said.

Tá sí á iarraidh seo ar Fheidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte le trí seachtaine, a dúirt sí.

Phil Ní Sheaghdha also said that working conditions in hospitals are very harsh at the moment with nurses and other workers wearing masks all the time during the summer rush.

Dúirt Phil Ní Sheaghdha chomh maith go bhfuil coinníollacha oibre in ospidéil an-dian faoi láthair agus maisc á gcaitheamh an t-am ar fad ag altraí agus oibrithe eile le linn bhrothall an tsamhraidh.

She believes, she said, that ventilation in hospitals is bad and she wants an independent review of the situation.

Creideann sí, a dúirt sí, go bhfuil cúrsaí aerála in ospidéil go dona agus tá sí ag iarraidh go ndéanfaí athbhreithniú neamhspleách ar an scéal.
