“97% of the trade agreement agreed” – Micheál Martin.
“97 faoin gcéad den chomhaontú trádála aontaithe” – Micheál Martin.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said that it is not true to say that after the talks on a trade agreement between the European Union and Britain, only “activists and activists” will be left behind.
Dúirt an Taoiseach Micheál Martin nach fíor a rá nach mbeidh fágtha i ndeireadh na scríbe ach “lucht caithréime agus lucht maidhme” tar éis na gcainteanna faoi chomhaontú trádála idir an tAontas Eorpach agus an Bhreatain.
Speaking in Brussels, the Taoiseach indicated that representatives of both sides would continue to talk to each other, although European Commission leader Ursula von der Leyen and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had failed to make much progress at they had a meeting last night.
Ag labhairt dó sa Bhruiséil, thug an Taoiseach le fios go leanfadh ionadaithe an dá thaobh orthu ag caint le chéile, cé gur theip ar cheannasaí an Choimisiúin Eorpaigh Ursula von der Leyen agus Príomh-Aire na Breataine Boris Johnson mórán dul chun cinn a dhéanamh ag cruinniú a bhí acu aréir.
The Taoiseach stated that no one expected a compromise to be reached at that meeting but that it was nonetheless promising that it was a long and open meeting.
Mhaígh an Taoiseach nach raibh aon duine ag súil go dtiocfaí ar chomhréiteach ag an gcruinniú sin ach gur tuar dóchais a bhí ann ina dhiaidh sin féin gur cruinniú fada agus oscailte a bhí ann.
Micheál Martin also said that 97% of the trade agreement has been agreed by both sides and that it is a great scruple to throw it in all traps because of the other 3%.
Dúirt Micheál Martin chomh maith go bhfuil 97 faoin gcéad den chomhaontú trádála aontaithe ag an dá thaobh agus gur mhór an scrupall é a chaitheamh i dtraipisí ar fad mar gheall ar an 3 faoin gcéad eile.
The Taoiseach is attending the summit of European Union leaders taking place in Brussels today and tomorrow.
Tá an Taoiseach ag freastal ar chruinniú mullaigh cheannairí an Aontais Eorpaigh atá ar siúl sa Bhruiséil inniu agus amárach.
