“Post offices immediately need State support”.

“Tacaíocht Stáit ag teastáil láithreach ó oifigí poist”.

A new report says the post office network will soon collapse if it is not supported by the State.

Deirtear i dtuarascáil nua gur gearr go dtitfidh gréasán na n-oifigí poist as a chéile mura dtabharfaidh an Stát tacaíocht dó.

The report, commissioned by Grant Thornton’s business advisers, was commissioned by the Postmasters Association.

Is é Cumann na Máistrí Poist a rinne coimisiúniú ar an tuarascáil a chuir comhairleoiri gnó an chomhlachta Grant Thornton i dtoll a chéile.

It is recommended that € 17 million be provided annually to post offices as they do not currently meet their needs.

Moltar go gcuirfí €17 milliún ar fáil gach bliain do na hoifigí poist mar nach bhfuil riar a riachtanais acu faoi láthair.

This money must be paid without delay, it is said, as there is a danger that post offices will close out of business by the end of next year without it.

Ní mór an t-airgead seo a íoc gan mhoill, a deirtear, mar go bhfuil an baol ann go ndúnfar oifigí poist as éadan faoi dheireadh na bliana seo chugainn dá uireasa.

Post offices in both large towns and the countryside are said to be at risk.

Maítear gur oifigí poist i mbailte móra agus faoin tuath araon atá i mbaol.

In a statement, An Post said its services were currently a success – both from the post office network to the postal delivery network.

I ráiteas, dúirt An Post go bhfuil rath ar a gcuid seirbhísí faoi láthair – idir ghréasán na n-oifigí poist agus an gréasán seachadta poist.

The statement said that while the company understands that independent postmasters face many challenges, the issue of money is a matter for the Government and the postmasters themselves.

Dúradh sa ráiteas cé go dtuigeann an comhlacht go bhfuil dúshláin go leor ag máistrí poist neamhspleácha go mbaineann ceist an airgid leis an Rialtas agus na máistrí poist féin.

An Post announced earlier this year that the company made a profit of € 39 million last year.

Dfhógair An Post níos túisce i mbliana go ndearna an comhlacht brabach €39 milliún anuraidh.
