Hundreds of trainee nurses from all over the country gathered in Dublin today for their protest over perceived poor pay conditions.

They say they are not treated fairly in terms of salary during their training period.
Deir siad nach bhfuiltear ag caitheamh go cothrom leo ó thaobh tuarastail dhe le linn a dtréimhse traenála.
They also claim that they have come under a lot of pressure since the beginning of this pandemic almost 2 years ago now, but that they have received little recognition for their work.

Their pay and allowances were to be reviewed this time last year, but that is not yet published they say.

They say they desperately need Government help.

In the Dáil this afternoon, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said that the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, would be submitting a memorandum to the Government on this issue shortly.

He also confirmed that these students would receive a 12.5% pay increase during their training period in hospitals, and would continue to receive the € 100 per week pandemic grant they are currently receiving.
