The Department of Health has announced that 1,025 new cases of Covid-19 virus have been confirmed in the State.

A total of 2,194 people have died in the State and 84,098 have contracted the virus.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said the new variable observed earlier this month in Britain, SARS-CoV-2, has been identified from a sample tested in the National Reference Service laboratory for Viruses. further tests in the coming weeks would reveal how much of the new variable is in Ireland.
