Connemara road and bridge improvement campaign intensifies.
Feachtas feabhsúchain bhóithre agus droichid Chonamara ag treisiú.
The Connemara roads action group’s campaign is clearly intensifying.
Tá feachtas ghrúpa gnímh bhóithre Chonamara ag géarú go láidir is léir.
Last week he received a response to a request he made under the Freedom of Information Act.
An tseachtain seo caite fuair sé freagra ar iarratas a rinne sé faoin Acht um Shaoráil Fáisnéise.
He was told that there is no study with an official count of road and bridge traffic in the area, despite the fact that Galway County Council has indicated that it does.
Dúradh leis nach bhfuil aon staidéar ann ina bhfuil comhaireamh oifigiúil cén líon tráchta a bhíónn ar na bóithre agus na droichid sa cheantar, ainneoin é tugtha le fios ag Comhairle Contae na Gaillimhe go bhfuil.
The action committee is angry about this, and calls on the deputies in West Galway to ensure that the money is secured so that the travel routes can be treated fairly.
Tá an coiste gnímh feargach faoi seo, agus iarrann siad ar na teachtaí dála i nGaillimh Thiar féachaint chuige go bhfaightear an t-airgead ionas gur féidir an chóir cheart a chur ar na bealaí taistil.
TD Eamon Ó Cuív in West Galway said that he is very active in seeking a solution in this case, he said that a process must be worked out by studying the bridges and acting accordingly, depending on the urgency as he said.
Dúirt an Teachta Dála Eamon Ó Cuív i nGaillimh Thiar go bhfuil sé an-ghníomhach ar thóir réitigh sa chás seo, dúirt sé go gcaithfí próiseas a oibriú amach trí staidéar a dhéanamh ar na droichid agus gníomhú dá réir ina dhiaidh sin, ag braith ar an bpráinn mar a dúírt sé.
“I am happy ‘he said’ to arrange a zoom meeting with the action committee”.
“Táim sásta a dúirt sé cruinniú zoom a eagrú leis an gcoiste gnímh”.
Similarly with the Independent Deputy, Noel Grealish, who said that he would follow Galway County Council in search of the answers, and that he would be happy to meet with the action committee next weekend.
Mar an gcéanna leis an Teachta Neamhspleách, Noel Grealish , a dúirt go leanfadh sé Comhairle Contae na Gaillimhe ar thóir na bhfreagraí, agus go mbeadh sé sásta bualadh leis an gcoiste gnímh an deiradh seachtaine seo chugainn.
Catherine Connolly ‘s office indicated that she would also be seeking responses from Galway County Council, while Sinn Féin’ s Mairéad Farrell said that it was clear that there was a severe shortfall in the money provided annually for the roads in Connemara.
Thug oifig Catherine Connolly le fios go mbeadh sí féin ar thóir na bhfreagraí freisin ó Chomhairle Contae na Gaillimhe, agus dúirt Mairéad Farrell, Sinn Féin gur léir go bhfuil easpa mór san airgead a chuirtear ar fáil go bliantúil do na bóithre i gConamara.
The Connemara Roads Action Committee says that Galway County Council is constantly apologizing and is reluctant, as the committee says, to spend the money on the R374 route.
Deir Coiste Gnímh Bhóithre Chonamara go bhfuil Comhairle Contae na Gaillimhe go síoraí ag tabhairt leithscéalta agus gur leasc leo mar a deir an coiste, an t-airgead a chaitheamh ar bhealach an R374.
‘The Council apologizes for saying that the whole region is a special area of conservation,’ says the committee.
Tá an Chomhairle ag dul ar chúl an chlaí le leithscéalta, ag rá gur ceantar speisialta caomhnaithe é an réigiún seo uilig a deir an coiste.
‘It’s true that the sea is protected’ says Maidhc Ó Curraoin from a committee, ‘but the bridges are not’.
Is fíor go bhfuil an fharraige cosanta a deir Maidhc Ó Curraoin ó gcoiste, ach níl na droichid.
‘There are now 4 bridges in the Islands area in dire need of refurbishment,’ he said.
Tá 4 dhroichead i gceantar na nOileán anois a dteastaíonn athchóiriú go géar uathu a dúirt sé.
These are Carrick-on-Shannon, Traffic Bridge, Quigley Bridge and Dingle Bridge.
Is iad sin Droichead na Cara,Droichead na Tráchta, Droichead an Chuigéil agus Droichead an Daingin.
‘The committee needs a good two lane road, a cycle lane, and a footpath for the area,’ said Maidhc Ó Curraoin.
Bóthar maith dhá lána, lána rothaíochta, agus cosán coisíochta a theastaíonn ón gcoiste don cheantar, a dúirt Maidhc Ó Curraoin.
