Fines for persons violating Covid-19 rules.

Fíneálacha do dhaoine a sháraíonn rialacha covid 19.

New legislation that will give Gardaí the power to impose fines on people who break Covid-19 rules has been approved in the Dáil this afternoon in a bid to stop the spread of the crown virus.

Tá reachtaíocht nua a thabharfaidh cumhacht do Ghardaí fíneálacha a ghearradh ar dhaoine a sháraíonn rialacha covid 19 ceadaithe sa Dáil tráthnóna in iarracht stop a chur le scaipeadh an choróinvíris.

Meanwhile, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has defended the Gardaí who were on duty during a protest in Dublin yesterday.

Idir an dá linn, tá cosaint déanta ag Coimisinéir na nGardaí, Drew Harris ar na Gardaí a bhí ar dualgas le linn agóide i mBleá Cliath inné.

The new bill will give Gardaí the power to impose fines on people who do not wear masks and exceed the 5 kilometer travel limit.

Tabharfaidh an bille nua an chumhacht do Ghardaí fíneálacha a ghearradh ar dhaoine nach gcaitheann mascanna agus a sháraíonn an teorainn taistil 5 chiliméadair.

Gardaí will be able to go to a house where a house party is taking place and fine the occupant, even though they would not be able to enter the house.

Beidh Gardaí abálta dul chuig teach ina bhfuil cóisir tí ar siúl agus fíneáil a ghearradh ar an áitritheoir, cé nach mbeadh siad abálta dul isteach sa teach.

The Minister for Health is seeking the blessing of the opposition to draft legislation although we do not yet know what fines will be imposed and what policies would be in place to ensure it does not go overboard, Sinn Féin health spokesman David Cullinane said.

Tá an tAire Sláinte ag lorg beannacht an fhreasúra chun reachtaíocht a dhréachtú cé nach bhfuil a fhios againn go fóill cén fíneálacha a ghearrfar agus cén beartais a bheadh i bhfeidhm lena chinntiú nach dtéann sí thar fóir, a dúirt urlabhraí sláinte Shinn Féin, David Cullinane.

Labor leader Alan Kelly said he would reluctantly support the legislation and that the Dáil must be given an opportunity to consider it before it comes into force.

Dúirt ceannaire Pháirtí an Lucht Oibre, Alan Kelly gur go drogallach a thacódh sé leis an reachtaíocht agus go gcaithfí deis a thabhairt don Dáil í a mheas sula dtagann sí i bhfeidhm.

The fines, in particular, will hit the poor, said Bríd Smith of Community Instead of Profit.

Daoine bochta, go háirithe, a bheidh buailte ag na fíneálacha, a dúirt Bríd Smith ó Phobal Seachas Brábus.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said the new powers will only be used when the cause goes to the bone.

Dúirt an tAire Sláinte, Stephen Donnelly nach mbainfear leas as na cumhachtaí úra ach amháin nuair a théann an chúis go cnámh na huillinne.

The policies are not expected to take effect until the end of next week.

Meastar nach dtiocfaidh na beartais i bhfeidhm go dtí deireadh na seachtaine seo chugainn.

Meanwhile, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said today that Gardaí will continue to inform and encourage people to abide by the rules and are awaiting the Government’s schedule of fines.

Idir an dá linn, dúirt Coimisinéir an Gharda Síochána, Drew Harris inniu go leanfaidh Gardaí orthu ag cur daoine ar an eolas agus á ngríosú cloí leis na rialacha agus go bhfuil siad ag fanacht ar sceideal na bhfíneálacha ón Rialtas.

He said Gardaí on duty during protests in Dublin yesterday were not too rude.

Dúirt sé nach raibh Gardaí a bhí ar dualgas le linn agóidí i mBaile Átha Cliath inné ró gharbh.
