The Wicklow Way is a 131-kilometre (81-mile) long-distance trail that crosses the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland.
Is bealach fad-achair 131 ciliméadar (81 míle) é Bealach Chill Mhantáin a thrasnaíonn Sléibhte Chill Mhantáin in Éirinn.
It runs from Marlay Park in the southern suburbs of Dublin through County Wicklow and ends in the village of Clonegal in County Carlow.
Ritheann sé ó Pháirc Marlay i mbruachbhailte theas Bhaile Átha Cliath trí Chontae Chill Mhantáin agus críochnaíonn sé i sráidbhaile Chluain na nGall i gContae Cheatharlach.
It is designated as a National Waymarked Trail by the Irish Sports Council and is waymarked by posts with a yellow “walking man” symbol and a directional arrow.
Tá sé ainmnithe mar Chonair Náisiúnta Marcáilte ag Comhairle Spóirt na hÉireann agus tá postmharcanna air le siombail buí “fear siúil” agus saighead treorach.
Typically completed in 5–7 days, it is one of the busiest of Irelands National Waymarked Trails, with up to 24,000 people a year walking the most popular sections.
Críochnaítear é de ghnáth i gceann 5–7 lá, tá sé ar cheann de na Conairí Slímharcáilte Náisiúnta is gnóthaí in Éirinn, le suas le 24,000 duine in aghaidh na bliana ag siúl na gcodanna is mó éilimh.
The Way is also used regularly by a number of mountain running competitions.
Úsáideann roinnt comórtais reatha sléibhe an Bealach go rialta freisin.
The trail follows forest tracks, mountain paths, boreens and quiet country roads.
Leanann an rian rianta foraoise, cosáin sléibhe, boreens agus bóithre ciúin tuaithe.
Mountains, upland lakes and steep-sided glacial valleys make up the terrain of the initial northern sections of the Way before giving way to gentler rolling foothills in the latter southern sections.
Is iad sléibhte, lochanna ardtailte agus gleannta oighreach le taobhanna géara tír-raon na gcodanna tosaigh thuaidh den Bhealach sula ngéilleann siad do chosa rollta níos ciúine sna codanna deisceartacha deireanacha.
Much of the route follows the contact point between the igneous granite of the western side of Wicklow and the metamorphic schists and slates of the eastern side.
Leanann cuid mhaith den bhealach an pointe teagmhála idir eibhir igneánach an taobh thiar de Chill Mhantáin agus na scadáin agus na sclátaí meiteamorfacha ar an taobh thoir.
The principal habitat of the upland sections is a mixture of broadleaf and coniferous woodland, heath and blanket bog while in the lowland sections the hedgerows marking the boundaries between fields support a variety of wildlife.
The Way also passes the Monastic City at Glendalough, founded in the 6th century by Saint Kevin.
Gabhann an Bealach Cathair na Manach ag Gleann Dá Loch freisin, a bhunaigh Saint Kevin sa 6ú haois.
The Wicklow Mountains form the largest continuous upland area in the Republic of Ireland.
Is iad Sléibhte Chill Mhantáin an limistéar ardtailte leanúnach is mó i bPoblacht na hÉireann.
They occupy the whole centre of County Wicklow and stretch outside its borders into the counties of Dublin, Wexford and Carlow.
Tá siad lonnaithe i lár Chontae Chill Mhantáin agus síneann siad lasmuigh dá theorainneacha isteach i gcontaetha Bhaile Átha Cliath, Loch Garman agus Cheatharlach.
Where the mountains extend into County Dublin, they are known locally as the Dublin Mountains.
Sa chás go síneann na sléibhte isteach i gContae Bhaile Átha Cliath, tugtar Sléibhte Bhaile Átha Cliath orthu go háitiúil.
The highest peak is Lugnaquilla at 925 metres.
Is é Lugnaquilla an bhuaic is airde ag 925 méadar.
