Concerns over rising crack cocaine abuse.
Imní faoin ardú ar mhí-úsáid chnagchócaoin.
The number of people who are being treated for crack cocaine abuse increased by 44% between 2018 and 2019, according to new figures from the Health Research Board.
Tháinig ardú 44 faoin gcéad ar an líon daoine a bhfuil cóir leighis á cur orthu faoi mhí- úsáid chnagchócaoin idir na blianta 2018 agus 2019, de réir figiúirí nua ón mBord Taighde Sláinte.
This trend is a cause for concern, as stated in the Board’s annual report published today.
Údar imní is ea an treocht seo, a deirtear i dtuarascáil bhliantúil an Bhoird a foilsíodh inniu.
Not only that, it is said, but the number of people being treated for cocaine abuse has tripled since 2013.
Ní hamháin ansin, a deirtear, ach tá méadú faoi thrí tagtha ar an líon daoine a bhfuil cóir leighis á cur orthu faoi mhí-úsáid chócaoin ón mbliain 2013.
Dr Anne Marie Carew of the Health Research Board said 30-year-old men who work and drink alcohol are the biggest cocaine abusers.
Dúirt an Dr Anne Marie Carew ón mBord Taighde Sláinte gur fir 30 bliain daois atá ag obair agus a ólann deoch mheisciúil an dream is mó a bhaineann mí-úsáid as cócaon.
Cocaine abusers are most often abused by the unemployed and have no place to live, she said.
Daoine atá dífhostaithe agus nach bhfuil aon áit chónaithe acu is mó a bhaineann mí-úsáid as cnagchócaon, a dúirt sí.
