Farmers’ protest at the Fianna Fáil meeting.
Agóid feirmeoirí ag cruinniú Fhianna Fáil.
Members of the Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party are meeting in Tipperary today to discuss the party’s work program before the start of the new Dáil term.
Tá baill Pháirtí Parlaiminte Fhianna Fáil i mbun cruinnithe i dTiobraid Árann inniu ag plé clár-oibre an pháirtí roimh thús théarma nua na Dála.
The policies in the Budget will be discussed in particular to help people with the high cost of living.
Pléifear go háirid na beartais sa mBuiséad le cuidiú le daoine leis an gcostas ard maireachtála.
Minister of State for Transport Jack Chambers said that members would have the opportunity to put forward their views on the challenge: “We will discuss how we can help families in the Budget which is a choice and how we can deal with the housing shortage and the long bands in the public transport system as well as many others” said the Minister.
Dúirt an tAire Stáit sa Roinn Iompair Jack Chambers go mbeadh deis ag na baill a dtuairimí a chur chun cinn faoin dúshlán: “Beidh plé againn ar conas is féidir linn cabhrú le teaghlaigh sa Bhuiséad atá roghainn agus conas is féidir linn déileáil leis an nganntanas tithíochta agus na fadbhanna sa chóras iompair poiblí chomh math le go leor eile” a dúirt an tAire.
A protest has been set up in front of the meeting place by the Farmers’ Association (the IFA).
Tá agóid ar bun os comhair láthair an chruinnithe ag Cumann na bhFeirmeoirí (an IFA).
They are angry about the delay in payments from the Department of Agriculture this year.
Tá fearg orthu faoin moill atá ar íocaíochtaí ón Roinn Talmhaíochta i mbliana.
They are also upset about the changes that are coming into force about the level of nitrates that will be allowed in the future.
Tá olc orthu freisin faoi na hathruithe atá ag teacht i bhfeidhm faoin leibhéal níotráití a cheadófar feasta.
The Association says 3,000 farmers will have to reduce their livestock as a result of the changes.
Deir an Cumann go mbeidh ar 3,000 feirmeoir an beostoc atá acu a laghdú de bharr na n-athruithe.
Although representatives of the Association had a meeting with Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue and Tánaiste Mícheál Martin, IFA President Tim Cullinan said little progress had been made at the meeting and said the Minister would have to return to the table on continent of Europe to mitigate the changes.
Cé go raibh cruinniú ag ionadaithe an Chumainn leis an Aire Talmhaíochta Charlie McConalogue agus leis an Tánaiste Mícheál Martin, dúirt Uachtarán an IFA Tim Cullinan gur beag dul chun cinn a bhí déanta ag an gcruinniú agus dúirt sé go gcaithfeadh an tAire filleadh ag an mbord ar mhór-roinn na hEorpa leis na hathruithe a mhaolú.
Meanwhile, inside the meeting Fianna Fáil was to discuss the party’s strategy in the local elections and in the European elections next year.
Idir an dá linn, istigh ag an gcruinniú bhí Fianna Fáil le straitéis an pháirtí sna toghcháin áitiúla agus i dtocháin na hEorpa an bhlian seo chugainn a phlé.
The leader Mícheál Martin said that he himself intends to remain at the helm in those elections and in the next general election.
Dúirt an ceannaire Mícheál Martin go bhfuil sé beartaithe aige féin fanacht ag an stiúir sna toghcháin sin agus ag an gcéad olltoghchán eile.
The Fianna Fáil meeting will continue tomorrow, and the farmers say they will continue their protest as well.
Leanfaidh cruinniú Fhianna Fáil amáireach, agus deir na feirmeoirí go leanfaidh siadsan lena n-agóid chomh maith.
Tomás Ó Mainnín will have more about that story on Nuacht TG4 at 1900.
