Unnecessary cross-border travel must be stopped.

Caithfear stop a chur le taisteal trasteorann neamhriachtanach.

Northern Health Minister Robin Swann has called on the Irish Government to try to stop unnecessary cross-border travel.

Tá iarrtha ag Aire Sláinte an Tuaiscirt Robin Swann ar Rialtas na hÉireann iarracht a dhéanamh stop a chur le taisteal trasteorann neamhriachtanach.

He has called on the Government to do everything possible to prevent unnecessary cross-border travel and to ease cross-county travel restrictions in the Republic of Ireland on Monday.

Tá iarrtha aige ar an Rialtas gach is féidir a dhéanamh chun cosc a chur ar thaisteal nach bhfuil gá leis trasna na teorann agus srianta maidir le taisteal idirchontae le maolú i bPoblacht na hÉireann Dé Luain.

Robin Swann said he was concerned that cross – border travel for certain things such as shopping and going out with friends could increase the spread of the virus among the public in the North and the Republic.

Dúirt Robin Swann go bhfuil imní air go bhféadfadh taisteal trasteorann i gcomhair nithe áirithe ar nós siopadóireacht agus chun dul amach le cairde, cur le scaipeadh an víris i measc an phobail sa Tuaisceart agus sa Phoblacht.

In a letter sent by Minister Swann to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly, Robin Swann said that while he is looking forward to the time when cross – border activities can resume, ‘we are not there yet’ says the Minister.

I litir a sheol an tAire Swann go dtí an tAire Sláinte Stephen Donnelly, dúirt Robin Swann cé go bhfuil sé ag súil leis an uair gur féidir tús a chur arís le gníomhaíochtaí trasteorann, ‘nílimíd ann fós’ a deir an tAire.

He said a clear message was needed on the matter and the ban would need to be enforced if necessary.

Dúirt sé go raibh teachtaireacht shoiléir ag teastáil ar an ábhar agus go mbeadh gá an cosc a chur i bhfeidhm más gá.

In the letter sent out during the week, Robin Swann called on Stephen Donnelly and the Health Service Executive to meet with the northern health authorities to reflect on what else they need to do.

Sa litir a seoladh le linn na seachtaine, d’iarr Robin Swann ar Stephen Donnelly agus ar Fheidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte bualadh leis na húdaráis sláinte ó thuaidh chun macnamh a dhéanamh faoi cad eile gur gá dóibh a dhéanamh.

He said that Northern Ireland and the Republic were at a very different stage in terms of the number of cases of the virus, restrictions and the progress of the vaccination program.

Dúirt sé go raibh Tuaisceart Éireann agus an Phoblacht ag staid ana dhifriúil maidir le líon na gcásanna den víreas, srianta agus maidir le dul chun cinn an chláir vacsaínithe.
