3 For in the past we were foolish, hard in heart, turned from the true way, servants of evil desires and pleasures, living in bad feeling and envy, hated and hating one another.

3 Porque también éramos nosotros necios en otro tiempo, rebeldes, extraviados, sirviendo á concupiscencias y deleites diversos, viviendo en malicia y en envidia, aborrecibles, aborreciendo los unos á los otros.

5 No por obras de justicia que nosotros habíamos hecho, mas por su misericordia nos salvó, por el lavacro de la regeneración, y de la renovación del Espíritu Santo;
5 nicht um der Werke willen der Gerechtigkeit, die wir getan hatten, sondern nach seiner Barmherzigkeit machte er uns selig durch das Bad der Wiedergeburt und Erneuerung des heiligen Geistes,
6 Which he gave us freely through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

7 So that, having been given righteousness through grace, we might have a part in the heritage, the hope of eternal life.

8 This is a true saying; and it is my desire that you may give certain witness about these things, so that those who have had faith in God may give attention to good works. These things are good and of profit to men;
8 Cette parole est certaine, et je veux que tu affirmes ces choses, afin que ceux qui ont cru en Dieu s'appliquent à pratiquer de bonnes oeuvres.

8 Palabra fiel, y estas cosas quiero que afirmes, para que los que creen á Dios procuren gobernarse en buenas obras. Estas cosas son buenas y útiles á los hombres.
8 Das ist gewißlich wahr; solches will ich, daß du fest lehrest, auf daß die, so an Gott gläubig geworden sind, in einem Stand guter Werke gefunden werden. Solches ist gut und nütze den Menschen.
9 But have nothing to do with foolish questionings, and lists of generations, and fights and arguments about the law; for they are of no profit and foolish.

9 Der törichten Fragen aber, der Geschlechtsregister, des Zankes und Streites über das Gesetz entschlage dich; denn sie sind unnütz und eitel.
10 A man whose opinions are not those of the church, after a first and second protest, is to be kept out of your society;

14 And let our people go on with good works for necessary purposes, so that they may not be without fruit.
14 Il faut que les nôtres aussi apprennent à pratiquer de bonnes oeuvres pour subvenir aux besoins pressants, afin qu'ils ne soient pas sans produire des fruits.
