1st Timothy 2

1 This is a true saying, A man desiring the position of a Bishop has a desire for a good work.

1 Is barántúil an ráiteas é seo: an té a bhíonn ag tnúth le cúram an uachtaráin is uasal an obair a shantaíonn sé.

1 PALABRA fiel: Si alguno apetece obispado, buena obra desea.

2 The Bishop, then, is to be a man of good name, the husband of one wife, self-controlled, serious-minded, having respect for order, opening his house freely to guests, a ready teacher;

2 Dá chionn sin ní mór don uachtarán a bheith gan cháim agus gan bheith pósta ach aon uair amháin; a bheith measartha, stuama, staidéartha, a bheith fial fáilteach agus in ann chun múinte;

2 Conviene, pues, que el obispo sea irreprensible, marido de una mujer, solícito, templado, compuesto, hospedador, apto para enseñar;

3 Not quickly moved to wrath or blows, but gentle; no fighter, no lover of money;

3 gan bheith tugtha don ól ná don achrann ach é a bheith séimh síochánta agus gan dúil aige san airgead.

3 No amador del vino, no heridor, no codicioso de torpes ganancias, sino moderado, no litigioso, ajeno de avaricia;

4 Ruling his house well, having his children under control with all serious behaviour;

4 Il faut qu'il dirige bien sa propre maison, et qu'il tienne ses enfants dans la soumission et dans une parfaite honnêteté;

4 Caithfidh sé bheith ina cheann maith ar a theaghlach féin agus a chlann a bheith umhal ómósach i ngach slí dó.

4 Que gobierne bien su casa, que tenga sus hijos en sujeción con toda honestidad;

5 (For if a man has not the art of ruling his house, how will he take care of the church of God?)

5 Mura bhfuil duine in ann a theaghlach féin a stiúradh, conas a dhéanfaidh sé Eaglais Dé a riaradh?

5 (so aber jemand seinem eigenen Hause nicht weiß vorzustehen, wie wird er die Gemeinde Gottes versorgen?);

6 Not one newly taken into the church, for fear that, through his high opinion of himself, he may come into the same sin as the Evil One.

6 Caithfidh sé gan bheith ina nuachreidmheach le heagla go dtiocfadh éirí in airde air agus go ndaorfaí é dála an diabhail féin.

7 And he is to have a good name among those outside the church, so that nothing may be said against him and he may not be taken by the designs of the Evil One.

7 Ní mór freisin dea-theist a bheith air ag an muintir lasmuigh le heagla go dtabharfaí tarcaisne dó agus go mbuailfeadh an diabhal bob air.

8 Deacons, in the same way, are to be serious in their behaviour, not false in word, not given to taking much wine or greatly desiring the wealth of this world;

8 Na déagánaigh mar an gcéanna, ní mór dóibh bheith ina ndaoine creidiúnacha agus gan bheith ina dteanga liom leat ná tugtha don ól, gan súil go suarach ar an mbreis acu

8 Los diáconos asimismo, deben ser honestos, no bilingües, no dados á mucho vino, no amadores de torpes ganancias;

8 Desgleichen die Diener sollen ehrbar sein, nicht zweizüngig, nicht Weinsäufer, nicht unehrliche Hantierungen treiben;

9 Keeping the secret of the faith in a heart free from sin.

9 ach iad ag caomhnadh rúndiamhair an chreidimh le coinsias glan.

10 And let these first be put to the test; then let them become Deacons if there is nothing against them.

10 Ní mór iad a thástáil ar dtús agus gan ligean dóibh feidhmiú mar dhéagánaigh mura mbíonn siad gan locht.

11 Women are to be serious in behaviour, saying no evil of others, controlling themselves, true in all things.

11 Ba chóir na mná a bheith creidiúnach mar an gcéanna agus gan a bheith cúlchainteach ach iad stuama agus iontaofa ar gach slí.

12 Let Deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their houses well.

12 Les diacres doivent être maris d'une seule femme, et diriger bien leurs enfants et leurs propres maisons;

12 Caithfidh na déagánaigh gan a bheith pósta ach aon uair amháin agus iad a bheith ina gceann maith ar a gclann agus ar a dteaghlach féin.

13 For those who have done good work as Deacons get for themselves a good position and become free from fear in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

13 Na déagánaigh a chruthaíonn go maith, gnóthaíonn siad ardchéim dóibh féin agus bíonn údarás mór lena gcaint faoin gcreideamh atá againn i gCríost Íosa. Rúndiamhair an Chreidimh

14 I am writing these things to you, though I am hoping to come to you before long;

14 Cé go bhfuilim ag súil le teacht ar cuairt chugat sul i bhfad, táim á scríobh seo chugat

14 Solches schreibe ich dir und hoffe, bald zu dir zu kommen;

15 But if I am long in coming, this will make clear to you what behaviour is right for men in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and base of what is true.

15 i dtreo, má chuirtear moill féin orm, go mbeidh a fhios agat conas is cóir duit tú féin a iompar i dteaghlach Dé, is é sin le rá, in Eaglais Dé bheo - an Eaglais atá ina cranntaca agus ina bunsraith don fhírinne.

16 And without argument, great is the secret of religion: He who was seen in the flesh, who was given God's approval in the spirit, was seen by the angels, of whom the good news was given among the nations, in whom the world had faith, who was taken up in glory.

16 Agus gan aon agó, is mór í rúndiamhair ár gcreidimh: An té a thaispeáin é féin dúinn i gcolainn dhaonna, sheas an Spiorad a cheart dó, chonacthas é do na haingil, fógraíodh é do na ciníocha, chreid an saol mór ann agus tógadh in airde i nglóir é.
