1 At last our desire to have news of you was so strong that, while we ourselves were waiting at Athens,
1 C'est pourquoi, impatients que nous étions, et nous décidant à rester seuls à Athènes,

1 POR lo cual, no pudiendo esperar más, acordamos quedarnos solos en Atenas,
1 Darum haben wir's nicht weiter wollen ertragen und haben uns lassen wohlgefallen, daß wir zu Athen allein gelassen würden,
2 We sent Timothy, our brother and God's servant in the good news of Christ, to give you strength and comfort in your faith;
2 nous envoyâmes Timothée, notre frère, ministre de Dieu dans l'Évangile de Christ, pour vous affermir et vous exhorter au sujet de votre foi,

2 Y enviamos á Timoteo, nuestro hermano, y ministro de Dios, y colaborador nuestro en el evangelio de Cristo, á confirmaros y exhortaros en vuestra fe,
2 und haben Timotheus gesandt, unsern Bruder und Diener Gottes und unsern Gehilfen im Evangelium Christi, euch zu stärken und zu ermahnen in eurem Glauben,
3 So that no man might be moved by these troubles; because you see that these things are part of God's purpose for us.
3 afin que personne ne fût ébranlé au milieu des tribulations présentes; car vous savez vous-mêmes que nous sommes destinés à cela.

4 And when we were with you, we said to you that trouble was before us; and so it came about, as you see.
4 Et lorsque nous étions auprès de vous, nous vous annoncions d'avance que nous serions exposés à des tribulations, comme cela est arrivé, et comme vous le savez.

5 For this reason, when I was no longer able to keep quiet, I sent to get news of your faith, fearing that you might be tested by the Evil One and that our work might come to nothing.
5 Ainsi, dans mon impatience, j'envoyai m'informer de votre foi, dans la crainte que le tentateur ne vous eût tentés, et que nous n'eussions travaillé en vain.

5 Por lo cual, también yo, no esperando más, he enviado á reconocer vuestra fe, no sea que os haya tentado el tentador, y que nuestro trabajo haya sido en vano.
5 Darum habe ich's auch nicht länger ertragen und ausgesandt, daß ich erführe euren Glauben, auf daß nicht euch vielleicht versucht hätte der Versucher und unsre Arbeit vergeblich würde.
6 But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has given us good news of your faith and love, and that you have happy memories of us, desiring greatly to see us, even as we do to see you;
6 Mais Timothée, récemment arrivé ici de chez vous, nous a donné de bonnes nouvelles de votre foi et de votre charité, et nous a dit que vous avez toujours de nous un bon souvenir, désirant nous voir comme nous désirons aussi vous voir.

6 Empero volviendo de vosotros á nosotros Timoteo, y haciéndonos saber vuestra fe y caridad, y que siempre tenéis buena memoria de nosotros, deseando vernos, como también nosotros á vosotros,
6 Nun aber, da Timotheus zu uns von euch gekommen ist und uns verkündigt hat euren Glauben und eure Liebe, und daß ihr unser gedenket allezeit zum besten und euch verlangt, uns zu sehen, wie denn auch uns nach euch,
7 For this cause, brothers, in all our trouble and grief we were comforted about you because of your faith;
7 En conséquence, frères, au milieu de toutes nos calamités et de nos tribulations, nous avons été consolés à votre sujet, à cause de votre foi.

7 En ello, hermanos, recibimos consolación de vosotros en toda nuestra necesidad y aflicción por causa de vuestra fe:

8 For it is life to us if you keep your faith in the Lord unchanged.
8 Car maintenant nous vivons, puisque vous demeurez fermes dans le Seigneur.

8 Porque ahora vivimos, si vosotros estáis firmes en el Señor.

9 For how great is the praise which we give to God for you, and how great the joy with which we are glad because of you before our God;
9 Quelles actions de grâces, en effet, nous pouvons rendre à Dieu à votre sujet, pour toute la joie que nous éprouvons à cause de vous, devant notre Dieu!

10 Night and day requesting God again and again that we may see your face and make your faith complete.

10 Orando de noche y de día con grande instancia, que veamos vuestro rostro, y que cumplamos lo que falta á vuestra fe?
10 Wir bitten Tag und Nacht gar sehr, daß wir sehen mögen euer Angesicht und erstatten, so etwas mangelt an eurem Glauben.
11 Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus make a way for us to come to you;
11 Que Dieu lui-même, notre Père, et notre Seigneur Jésus, aplanissent notre route pour que nous allions à vous!
11 Go ndéana Dia, ár nAthair, agus Íosa ár dTiarna, ar mbóthar chugaibh a réiteach dúinn.
11 Mas el mismo Dios y Padre nuestro, y el Señor nuestro Jesucristo, encamine nuestro viaje á vosotros.
11 Er aber, Gott, unser Vater, und unser HERR Jesus Christus schicke unsern Weg zu euch.
12 And the Lord give you increase of love in fullest measure to one another and to all men, even as our love to you;
12 Que le Seigneur augmente de plus en plus parmi vous, et à l'égard de tous, cette charité que nous avons nous-mêmes pour vous,

12 Y á vosotros multiplique el Señor, y haga abundar el amor entre vosotros, y para con todos, como es también de nosotros para con vosotros;
12 Euch aber vermehre der HERR und lasse die Liebe völlig werden untereinander und gegen jedermann (wie denn auch wir sind gegen euch),
13 So that your hearts may be strong and free from all sin before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
13 afin d'affermir vos coeurs pour qu'ils soient irréprochables dans la sainteté devant Dieu notre Père, lors de l'avènement de notre Seigneur Jésus avec tous ses saints!
