2nd Corinthians 1

1 But it was my decision for myself, not to come again to you with sorrow.

1 Bheartaigh mé i m'aigne, dá réir sin, gan cuairt bhrónach eile a thabhairt oraibh.

2 For if I give you sorrow, who then will make me glad, but he who is made sad by me?

2 Mar má chuirimse brón oraibh cé atá ann chun áthas a chur orm ach an duine céanna ar chuir mé brón air?

3 And I said this very thing in my letter, for fear that when I came I might have sorrow from those from whom it was right for me to have joy; being certain of this, that my joy is the joy of you all.

3 Sin é go díreach an rud a scríobh mé chugaibh i dtreo, nuair a thiocfainn, nach brón a gheobhainn ó na daoine dar dual áthas a chur orm, mar bhí mé cinnte fúibh go léir go mba chúis áthais daoibhse áthas a bheith ormsa.

4 For out of much trouble and pain of heart and much weeping I sent my letter to you; not to give you sorrow, but so that you might see how great is the love which I have to you.

4 Is mór an buaireamh agus an scalladh croí a bhí orm ag scríobh chugaibh agus is iomaí deoir a thit ó mo shúile, ach ní d'fhonn sibhse a bhuaireamh a scríobh mé ach d'fhonn is go dtuigfeadh sibh méid mo ghrá daoibh.

5 But if anyone has been a cause of sorrow, he has been so, not to me only, but in some measure to all of you (I say this that I may not be over-hard on you).

5 Má bhí aon duine ina ábhar buartha, ní ormsa amháin a ghoill sé ach oraibhse go léir a bheag nó a mhór, chun gan luí róthrom air mar scéal.

6 Let it be enough for such a man to have undergone the punishment which the church put on him;

6 Ní beag dá leithéid, áfach, an pionós seo a ghearr an tromlach air.

6 Bástale al tal esta reprensión hecha de muchos;

7 So that now, on the other hand, it is right for him to have forgiveness and comfort from you, for fear that his sorrow may be over-great.

7 Is é a mhalairt is córa daoibh a dhéanamh anois, is é sin maithiúnas agus sólás a thabhairt dó ar eagla go gcloífí é faoi iomad den bhrón.

8 For which cause my desire is that you will make your love to him clear by your acts.

8 Je vous exhorte donc à faire acte de charité envers lui;

9 And for the same reason I sent you a letter so that I might be certain of your desire to do my orders in all things.

9 Mar is chuige seo a scríobh mé chugaibh, chun sibh a thriail, féachaint an mbeadh sibh umhal i ngach ní.

10 But if you give forgiveness to anyone, I do the same: for if I have given forgiveness for anything, I have done it because of you, in the person of Christ;

10 An té a maitheann sibhse dó, maithimse dó chomh maith. Mar cibé ní a mhaith mise dó, is ar mhaithe libhse a rinne mé é i bhfianaise Chríost

10 Y al que vosotros perdonareis, yo también: porque también yo lo que he perdonado, si algo he perdonado, por vosotros lo he hecho en persona de Cristo;

11 So that Satan may not get the better of us: for we are not without knowledge of his designs.

11 ar eagla go bhfaigheadh Sátan buntáiste oraibh - agus is maith is eol dúinn a chleasa siúd.

12 Now when I came to Troas for the good news of Christ, and there was an open door for me in the Lord,

12 Au reste, lorsque je fus arrivé à Troas pour l'Évangile de Christ, quoique le Seigneur m'y eût ouvert une porte, je n'eus point de repos d'esprit, parce que je ne trouvai pas Tite, mon frère;

12 Ar dhul dom go Tróas ag fógairt dea-scéal Chríost, cé go raibh doras ar leathadh ag an Tiarna romham,

13 I had no rest in my spirit because Titus my brother was not there: so I went away from them, and came into Macedonia.

D'fhág mé slán acu dá bhrí sin agus d'imigh liom go dtí an Mhacadóin.

14 But praise be to God who makes us strong to overcome in Christ, and makes clear through us in every place the value of the knowledge of him.

14 A bhuí le Dia a bhíonn i gcónaí dár seoladh ina mhórshiúl caithréimeach i gCríost agus ag leathadh eolais air trínár mbíthin i ngach áit mar a bheadh boladh cumhra ann.

15 For we are a sweet perfume of Christ to God in those who are getting salvation and in those who are going to destruction;

15 Mar is cuma sinne nó cumhracht Chríost ag dul suas chun Dé i measc na ndaoine atá ar bhealach a slánaithe agus i measc na ndaoine atá ar bhealach a millte chomh maith;

16 To the one it is a perfume of death to death; to the other a perfume of life to life. And who is enough for such things?

16 do bhuíon acu is boladh marfach é a sheolann chun báis iad, agus don bhuíon eile is boladh beomhar é a sheolann iad chun na beatha. Agus cé atá in ann chun na hoibre seo?

17 For we are not like the great number who make use of the word of God for profit: but our words are true, as from God, being said as before God in Christ.

17 Táimidne, mar ní ag mangaireacht bhriathar Dé a bhímidne dála a lán eile ach á fhógairt go dílis i gCríost i bhfianaise Dé, mar theachtaireacht ó Dhia.
