1 For it is my desire, my brothers, that you may keep in mind how all our fathers were under the cloud, and they all went through the sea;

2 And they all had baptism from Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 And they all took the same holy food;

4 And the same holy drink: for they all took of the water from the holy rock which came after them: and the rock was Christ.
4 et qu'ils ont tous bu le même breuvage spirituel, car ils buvaient à un rocher spirituel qui les suivait, et ce rocher était Christ.

4 und haben alle einerlei geistlichen Trank getrunken; sie tranken aber vom geistlichen Fels, der mitfolgte, welcher war Christus.
5 But with most of them God was not pleased: for they came to their end in the waste land.
5 Mais la plupart d'entre eux ne furent point agréables à Dieu, puisqu'ils périrent dans le désert.

6 Now these things were for an example to us, so that our hearts might not go after evil things, as they did.

7 Then do not go after false gods, as some of them did; as it is said in the holy Writings, After resting and feasting, the people got up to take their pleasure.
7 Ne devenez point idolâtres, comme quelques-uns d'eux, selon qu'il est écrit: Le peuple s'assit pour manger et pour boire; puis ils se levèrent pour se divertir.

7 Werdet auch nicht Abgöttische, gleichwie jener etliche wurden, wie geschrieben steht: "Das Volk setzte sich nieder, zu essen und zu trinken, und stand auf, zu spielen."
8 Again, let us not give way to the desires of the flesh, as some of them did, of whom twenty-three thousand came to their end in one day.
8 Ne nous livrons point à l'impudicité, comme quelques-uns d'eux s'y livrèrent, de sorte qu'il en tomba vingt-trois mille en un seul jour.

9 And let us not put the Lord to the test, as some of them did, and came to their death by snakes.

10 And do not say evil things against the Lord, as some of them did, and destruction overtook them.

11 Now these things were done as an example; and were put down in writing for our teaching, on whom the last days have come.
11 Ces choses leur sont arrivées pour servir d'exemples, et elles ont été écrites pour notre instruction, à nous qui sommes parvenus à la fin des siècles.

12 So let him who seems to himself to be safe go in fear of a fall.

13 You have been put to no test but such as is common to man: and God is true, who will not let any test come on you which you are not able to undergo; but he will make with the test a way out of it, so that you may be able to go through it.
13 Aucune tentation ne vous est survenue qui n'ait été humaine, et Dieu, qui est fidèle, ne permettra pas que vous soyez tentés au delà de vos forces; mais avec la tentation il préparera aussi le moyen d'en sortir, afin que vous puissiez la supporter.

13 No os ha tomado tentación, sino humana: mas fiel es Dios, que no os dejará ser tentados más de lo que podeís llevar; antes dará también juntamente con la tentación la salida, para que podáis aguantar.
13 Es hat euch noch keine denn menschliche Versuchung betreten; aber Gott ist getreu, der euch nicht läßt versuchen über euer Vermögen, sondern macht, daß die Versuchung so ein Ende gewinne, daß ihr's könnet ertragen.
14 For this cause, my dear brothers, give no worship to false gods.
14 C'est pourquoi, mes bien-aimés, fuyez l'idolâtrie.

14 Por tanto, amados míos, huid de la idolatría.

15 What I am saying is for wise men, do you be the judges of it.
15 Je parle comme à des hommes intelligents; jugez vous-mêmes de ce que je dis.

20 Aber ich sage: Was die Heiden opfern, das opfern sie den Teufeln, und nicht Gott. Nun will ich nicht, daß ihr in der Teufel Gemeinschaft sein sollt.
21 It is not possible for you, at the same time, to take the cup of the Lord and the cup of evil spirits; you may not take part in the table of the Lord and the table of evil spirits.
21 Vous ne pouvez boire la coupe du Seigneur, et la coupe des démons; vous ne pouvez participer à la table du Seigneur, et à la table des démons.

21 No podéis beber la copa del Señor, y la copa de los demonios: no podéis ser partícipes de la mesa del Señor, y de la mesa de los demonios.
21 Ihr könnt nicht zugleich trinken des HERRN Kelch und der Teufel Kelch; ihr könnt nicht zugleich teilhaftig sein des Tisches des HERRN und des Tisches der Teufel.
22 Or may we be the cause of envy to the Lord? are we stronger than he?

27 So aber jemand von den Ungläubigen euch ladet und ihr wollt hingehen, so esset alles, was euch vorgetragen wird, und forschet nicht, auf daß ihr das Gewissen verschonet.
28 But if anyone says to you, This food has been used as an offering, do not take it, on account of him who said it, and on account of his sense of right and wrong:
28 Mais si quelqu'un vous dit: Ceci a été offert en sacrifice! n'en mangez pas, à cause de celui qui a donné l'avertissement, et à cause de la conscience.

28 Mas si alguien os dijere: Esto fué sacrificado á los ídolos: no lo comáis, por causa de aquel que lo declaró, y por causa de la conciencia: porque del Señor es la tierra y lo que la hinche.
28 Wo aber jemand würde zu euch sagen: "Das ist Götzenopfer", so esset nicht, um des willen, der es anzeigte, auf daß ihr das Gewissen verschonet.
29 Right and wrong, I say, not for you, but for the other man; for the fact that I am free is not dependent on another man's sense of right or wrong.
29 Je parle ici, non de votre conscience, mais de celle de l'autre. Pourquoi, en effet, ma liberté serait-elle jugée par une conscience étrangère?

30 But if I give praise to God for the food which I take, let no man say evil of me for that reason.

31 So then, if it is a question of food or drink, or any other thing, whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
31 Soit donc que vous mangiez, soit que vous buviez, soit que vous fassiez quelque autre chose, faites tout pour la gloire de Dieu.

32 Give no cause of trouble to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God.

33 Even as I give way to all men in all things, not looking for profit for myself, but for the good of others, that they may get salvation.
33 de la même manière que moi aussi je m'efforce en toutes choses de complaire à tous, cherchant, non mon avantage, mais celui du plus grand nombre, afin qu'ils soient sauvés.
