1 And when we were safe, we made the discovery that the island was named Melita.

2 And the simple people living there were uncommonly kind to us, for they made a fire for us, and took us in, because it was raining and cold.

3 But when Paul had got some sticks together and put them on the fire, a snake came out, because of the heat, and gave him a bite on the hand.
3 Paul ayant ramassé un tas de broussailles et l'ayant mis au feu, une vipère en sortit par l'effet de la chaleur et s'attacha à sa main.

3 Da aber Paulus einen Haufen Reiser zusammenraffte, und legte sie aufs Feuer, kam eine Otter von der Hitze hervor und fuhr Paulus an seine Hand.
4 And when the people saw it hanging on his hand, they said to one another, Without doubt this man has put someone to death, and though he has got safely away from the sea, God will not let him go on living.
4 Quand les barbares virent l'animal suspendu à sa main, ils se dirent les uns aux autres: Assurément cet homme est un meurtrier, puisque la Justice n'a pas voulu le laisser vivre, après qu'il a été sauvé de la mer.

4 Y como los bárbaros vieron la víbora colgando de su mano, decían los unos á los otros: Ciertamente este hombre es homicida, á quien, escapado de la mar, la justicia no deja vivir.
4 Da aber die Leutlein sahen das Tier an seiner Hand hangen, sprachen sie untereinander: Dieser Mensch muß ein Mörder sein, den die Rache nicht leben läßt, ob er gleich dem Meer entgangen ist.
5 But shaking off the beast into the fire, he got no damage.
5 Paul secoua l'animal dans le feu, et ne ressentit aucun mal.

6 But they had the idea that they would see him becoming ill, or suddenly falling down dead; but after waiting a long time, and seeing that no damage came to him, changing their opinion, they said he was a god.
6 Ces gens s'attendaient à le voir enfler ou tomber mort subitement; mais, après avoir longtemps attendu, voyant qu'il ne lui arrivait aucun mal, ils changèrent d'avis et dirent que c'était un dieu.

6 Empero ellos estaban esperando cuándo se había de hinchar, ó caer muerto de repente; mas habiendo esperado mucho, y viendo que ningún mal le venía, mudados, decían que era un dios.
6 Sie aber warteten, wenn er schwellen würde oder tot niederfallen. Da sie aber lange warteten und sahen, daß ihm nichts Ungeheures widerfuhr, wurden sie anderes Sinnes und sprachen, er wäre ein Gott.
7 Now near that place there was some land, the property of the chief man of the island, who was named Publius; who very kindly took us into his house as his guests for three days.
7 Il y avait, dans les environs, des terres appartenant au principal personnage de l'île, nommé Publius, qui nous reçut et nous logea pendant trois jours de la manière la plus amicale.
7 I gcomharsanacht na háite sin bhí fearann ag ceann urra an oileáin, fear darbh ainm Puiblias. D'fháiltigh seisean romhainn agus chuir cóir orainn go fial ar feadh trí lá.
7 En aquellos lugares había heredades del principal de la isla, llamado Publio, el cual nos recibió y hospedó tres días humanamente.
7 An diesen Örtern aber hatte der Oberste der Insel, mit Namen Publius, ein Vorwerk; der nahm uns auf und herbergte uns drei Tage freundlich.
8 And the father of Publius was ill, with a disease of the stomach; to whom Paul went, and put his hands on him, with prayer, and made him well.
8 Le père de Publius était alors au lit, malade de la fièvre et de la dysenterie; Paul, s'étant rendu vers lui, pria, lui imposa les mains, et le guérit.

8 Es geschah aber, daß der Vater des Publius am Fieber und an der Ruhr lag. Zu dem ging Paulus hinein und betete und legte die Hand auf ihn und machte ihn gesund.
9 And when this took place, all the others in the island who had diseases came and were made well.
9 Là-dessus, vinrent les autres malades de l'île, et ils furent guéris.

10 Then they gave us great honour, and, when we went away, they put into the ship whatever things we were in need of.

12 And going into the harbour at Syracuse, we were waiting there for three days.

13 And from there, going about in a curve, we came to Rhegium: and after one day a south wind came up and on the day after we came to Puteoli:
13 De là, en suivant la côte, nous atteignîmes Reggio; et, le vent du midi s'étant levé le lendemain, nous fîmes en deux jours le trajet jusqu'à Pouzzoles,

14 Where we came across some of the brothers, who kept us with them for seven days; and so we came to Rome.
14 où nous trouvâmes des frères qui nous prièrent de passer sept jours avec eux. Et c'est ainsi que nous allâmes à Rome.

14 Donde habiendo hallado hermanos, nos rogaron que quedásemos con ellos siete días; y luego vinimos á Roma;
14 Da fanden wir Brüder und wurden von ihnen gebeten, daß wir sieben Tage dablieben. Und also kamen wir gen Rom.
15 And the brothers, when they had news of us, came out from town as far as Appii Forum and the Three Taverns to have a meeting with us: and Paul, seeing them, gave praise to God and took heart.
15 De Rome vinrent à notre rencontre, jusqu'au Forum d'Appius et aux Trois Tavernes, les frères qui avaient entendu parler de nous. Paul, en les voyant, rendit grâces à Dieu, et prit courage.

15 De donde, oyendo de nosotros los hermanos, nos salieron á recibir hasta la plaza de Appio, y Las Tres Tabernas: á los cuales como Pablo vió, dió gracias á Dios, y tomó aliento.
15 Und von dort, da die Brüder von uns hörten, gingen sie aus, uns entgegen, bis gen Appifor und Tretabern. Da die Paulus sah, dankte er Gott und gewann eine Zuversicht.
16 And when we came into Rome, they let Paul have a house for himself and the armed man who kept watch over him.
16 Lorsque nous fûmes arrivés à Rome, on permit à Paul de demeurer en son particulier, avec un soldat qui le gardait.

16 Y como llegamos á Roma, el centurión entregó los presos al prefecto de los ejércitos, mas á Pablo fué permitido estar por sí, con un soldado que le guardase.
16 Da wir aber gen Rom kamen, überantwortete der Unterhauptmann die Gefangenen dem obersten Hauptmann. Aber Paulus ward erlaubt zu bleiben, wo er wollte, mit einem Kriegsknechte, der ihn hütete.
17 Then after three days he sent for the chief men of the Jews: and when they had come together, he said to them, My brothers, though I had done nothing against the people or the ways of our fathers, I was given, a prisoner from Jerusalem, into the hands of the Romans.
17 Au bout de trois jours, Paul convoqua les principaux des Juifs; et, quand ils furent réunis, il leur adressa ces paroles: Hommes frères, sans avoir rien fait contre le peuple ni contre les coutumes de nos pères, j'ai été mis en prison à Jérusalem et livré de là entre les mains des Romains.
17 Trí lá ina dhiaidh sin ghlaoigh sé chuige cinn urra na nGiúdach agus nuair a bhí siad cruinnithe labhair sé leo: “A bhráithre,” ar seisean, “cé nach ndearna mé aon ní in aghaidh ár gcine ná in aghaidh béasa ár sinsear, cuireadh i ngéibheann mé in Iarúsailéim agus tugadh suas do na Rómhánaigh mé.
17 Y aconteció que tres días después, Pablo convocó á los principales de los Judíos; á los cuales, luego que estuvieron juntos, les dijo: Yo, varones hermanos, no habiendo hecho nada contra el pueblo, ni contra los ritos de la patria, he sido entregado preso desde Jerusalem en manos de los Romanos;
17 Es geschah aber nach drei Tagen, daß Paulus zusammenrief die Vornehmsten der Juden. Da sie zusammenkamen, sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr Männer, liebe Brüder, ich habe nichts getan wider unser Volk noch wider väterliche Sitten, und bin doch gefangen aus Jerusalem übergeben in der Römer Hände.
18 Who, when they had put questions to me, were ready to let me go free, because there was no cause of death in me.
18 Après m'avoir interrogé, ils voulaient me relâcher, parce qu'il n'y avait en moi rien qui méritât la mort.

19 But when the Jews made protest against it, I had to put my cause into Caesar's hands; not because I have anything to say against my nation.
19 Mais les Juifs s'y opposèrent, et j'ai été forcé d'en appeler à César, n'ayant du reste aucun dessein d'accuser ma nation.
19 Ach chuir na Giúdaigh ina gcoinne agus b'éigean domsa Céasar a ghairm, agus ní hé go raibh aon ní agam le cur i leith mo chine féin.
19 Mas contradiciendo los Judíos, fuí forzado á apelar á César; no que tenga de qué acusar á mi nación.
19 Da aber die Juden dawider redeten, ward ich genötigt, mich auf den Kaiser zu berufen; nicht, als hätte ich mein Volk um etwas zu verklagen.
20 But for this reason I sent for you, to see and have talk with you: for because of the hope of Israel I am in these chains.
20 Voilà pourquoi j'ai demandé à vous voir et à vous parler; car c'est à cause de l'espérance d'Israël que je porte cette chaîne.

20 Um der Ursache willen habe ich euch gebeten, daß ich euch sehen und ansprechen möchte; denn um der Hoffnung willen Israels bin ich mit dieser Kette umgeben.
21 And they said to him, We have not had letters from Judaea about you, and no one of the brothers has come to us here to give an account or say any evil about you.
21 Ils lui répondirent: Nous n'avons reçu de Judée aucune lettre à ton sujet, et il n'est venu aucun frère qui ait rapporté ou dit du mal de toi.
21 Dúirt siadsan leis: “Ní bhfuaireamarna litir ar bith i do thaobh ó Iúdáia, ná níor thug aon neach dár mbráithre a tháinig an treo drochscéal ná drochthuairisc chugainn mar gheall ort.
21 Entonces ellos le dijeron: Nosotros ni hemos recibido cartas tocante á tí de Judea, ni ha venido alguno de los hermanos que haya denunciado ó hablado algún mal de ti.
21 Sie aber sprachen zu ihm: Wir haben weder Schrift empfangen aus Judäa deinethalben, noch ist ein Bruder gekommen, der von dir etwas Arges verkündigt oder gesagt habe.
22 But we have a desire to give hearing to your opinion: for as to this form of religion, we have knowledge that in all places it is attacked.
22 Mais nous voudrions apprendre de toi ce que tu penses, car nous savons que cette secte rencontre partout de l'opposition.

22 Mas querríamos oir de ti lo que sientes; porque de esta secta notorio nos es que en todos lugares es contradicha.
22 Doch wollen wir von dir hören, was du hältst; denn von dieser Sekte ist uns kund, daß ihr wird an allen Enden widersprochen.
23 And when a day had been fixed, they came to his house in great numbers; and he gave them teaching, giving witness to the kingdom of God, and having discussions with them about Jesus, from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning till evening.
23 Ils lui fixèrent un jour, et plusieurs vinrent le trouver dans son logis. Paul leur annonça le royaume de Dieu, en rendant témoignage, et en cherchant, par la loi de Moïse et par les prophètes, à les persuader de ce qui concerne Jésus. L'entretien dura depuis le matin jusqu'au soir.
23 Shocraigh siad leis ar lá agus tháinig slua mór acu chun an lóistín chuige. Lean sé ó mhaidin go hoíche ag tabhairt fios an scéil dóibh: thug sé léiriú mion ar ríocht Dé, ag áiteamh scéal Íosa orthu as dlí Mhaois agus as na fáithe.
23 Y habiéndole señalado un día, vinieron á él muchos á la posada, á los cuales declaraba y testificaba el reino de Dios, persuadiéndoles lo concerniente á Jesús, por la ley de Moisés y por los profetas, desde la mañana hasta la tarde.
23 Und da sie ihm einen Tag bestimmt hatten, kamen viele zu ihm in die Herberge, welchen er auslegte und bezeugte das Reich Gottes; und er predigte ihnen von Jesus aus dem Gesetz Mose's und aus den Propheten von frühmorgens an bis an den Abend.
24 And some were in agreement with what he said, but some had doubts.
24 Les uns furent persuadés par ce qu'il disait, et les autres ne crurent point.
24 Chuaigh a chuid cainte ina luí ar chuid acu ach bhí cuid eile acu nach ngéillfeadh dó.
24 Y algunos asentían á lo que se decía, mas algunos no creían.
24 Und etliche fielen dem zu, was er sagte; etliche aber glaubten nicht.
25 And they went away, for there was a division among them after Paul had said this one thing: Well did the Holy Spirit say by the prophet Isaiah to your fathers,
25 Comme ils se retiraient en désaccord, Paul n'ajouta que ces mots: C'est avec raison que le Saint Esprit, parlant à vos pères par le prophète Ésaïe, a dit:
25 Bhí easaontas eatarthu agus iad ag imeacht agus is é a dúirt Pól leo mar fhocal scoir: “Is maith mar a labhair an Spiorad le bhur n‑aithreacha trí bhéal Íseáia fáidh nuair a dúirt sé:
25 Y como fueron entre sí discordes, se fueron, diciendo Pablo esta palabra: Bien ha hablado el Espíritu Santo por el profeta Isaías á nuestros padres,
25 Da sie aber untereinander mißhellig waren, gingen sie weg, als Paulus das eine Wort redete: Wohl hat der heilige Geist gesagt durch den Propheten Jesaja zu unsern Vätern
26 Go to this people and say, Though you give ear, you will not get knowledge; and seeing, you will see, but the sense will not be clear to you:
26 Va vers ce peuple, et dis: Vous entendrez de vos oreilles, et vous ne comprendrez point; Vous regarderez de vos yeux, et vous ne verrez point.
26 ‘Téigh go dtí an pobal seo agus abair seo leo: Éistfidh sibh go deimhin ach ní thuigfidh sibh, féachfaidh sibh go deimhin ach ní fheicfidh sibh,
26 Diciendo: Ve á este pueblo, y di les: De oído oiréis, y no entenderéis; Y viendo veréis, y no percibiréis:
26 und gesprochen: "Gehe hin zu diesem Volk und sprich: Mit den Ohren werdet ihr's hören, und nicht verstehen; und mit den Augen werdet ihr's sehen, und nicht erkennen.
27 For the heart of this people has become fat and their ears are slow in hearing and their eyes are shut; for fear that they might see with their eyes and give hearing with their ears and become wise in their hearts and be turned again to me, so that I might make them well.
27 Car le coeur de ce peuple est devenu insensible; Ils ont endurci leurs oreilles, et ils ont fermé leurs yeux, De peur qu'ils ne voient de leurs yeux, qu'ils n'entendent de leurs oreilles, Qu'ils ne comprennent de leur coeur, Qu'ils ne se convertissent, et que je ne les guérisse.
27 Mar tá croí an phobail seo éirithe dúr, agus lena gcluasa is mall a éisteann siad, agus dhún siad a súile, ar eagla go bhfeicfidís lena súile agus go gcloisfidís lena gcluasa agus go dtuigfidís lena gcroí agus go n‑iompóidís chugamsa agus go leigheasfainn iad.’
27 Porque el corazón de este pueblo se ha engrosado, Y de los oídos oyeron pesadamente, Y sus ojos taparon; Porque no vean con los ojos, Y oigan con los oídos, Y entiendan de corazón, Y se conviertan, Y yo los sane.
27 Denn das Herz dieses Volks ist verstockt, und sie hören schwer mit den Ohren und schlummern mit ihren Augen, auf daß sie nicht dermaleinst sehen und mit den Augen und hören mit den Ohren und verständig werden im Herzen und sich bekehren, daß ich ihnen hülfe."
28 Be certain, then, that the salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and they will give hearing.
28 Sachez donc que ce salut de Dieu a été envoyé aux païens, et qu'ils l'écouteront.
28 “Bíodh a fhios agaibh dá bhrí sin go bhfuil an slánú seo Dé á sheoladh chuig na gintlithe. Éistfidh siadsan leis.”
28 Séaos pues notorio que á los Gentiles es enviada esta salud de Dios: y ellos oirán.
28 So sei es euch kundgetan, daß den Heiden gesandt ist dies Heil Gottes; und sie werden's hören.

29 Lorsqu'il eut dit cela, les Juifs s'en allèrent, discutant vivement entre eux.

29 Y habiendo dicho esto, los Judíos salieron, teniendo entre sí gran contienda.
29 Und da er solches redete, gingen die Juden hin und hatten viel Fragens unter sich selbst.
30 And for the space of two years, Paul was living in the house of which he had the use, and had talk with all those who went in to see him,
30 Paul demeura deux ans entiers dans une maison qu'il avait louée. Il recevait tous ceux qui venaient le voir,

31 Preaching the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ without fear, and no orders were given that he was not to do so.
31 prêchant le royaume de Dieu et enseignant ce qui concerne le Seigneur Jésus Christ, en toute liberté et sans obstacle.
