1 And Paul, looking fixedly at the Sanhedrin, said, My brothers, my life has been upright before God till this day.

2 And the high priest, Ananias, gave orders to those who were near him to give him a blow on the mouth.

3 Then Paul said to him, God will give blows to you, you whitewashed wall: are you here to be my judge by law, and by your orders am I given blows against the law?
3 Alors Paul lui dit: Dieu te frappera, muraille blanchie! Tu es assis pour me juger selon la loi, et tu violes la loi en ordonnant qu'on me frappe!

3 Entonces Pablo le dijo: Herirte ha Dios, pared blanqueada: ¿y estás tú sentado para juzgarme conforme á la ley, y contra la ley me mandas herir?

4 And those who were near said, Do you say such words against God's high priest?

5 And Paul said, Brother, I had no idea that he was the high priest: for it has been said, You may not say evil about the ruler of your people.
5 Et Paul dit: Je ne savais pas, frères, que ce fût le souverain sacrificateur; car il est écrit: Tu ne parleras pas mal du chef de ton peuple.
5 D'fhreagair Pól: “Ní raibh a fhios agam, a bhráithre, gurb é an t‑ardsagart é, mar tá scríofa: ‘Ná habair aon drochní mar gheall ar phrionsa an phobail.’ ”
5 Y Pablo dijo: No sabía, hermanos, que era el sumo sacerdote; pues escrito está: Al príncipe de tu pueblo no maldecirás.
5 Und Paulus sprach: Liebe Brüder, ich wußte nicht, daß er der Hohepriester ist. Denn es steht geschrieben: "Dem Obersten deines Volkes sollst du nicht fluchen."
6 But when Paul saw that half of them were Sadducees and the rest Pharisees, he said in the Sanhedrin, Brothers, I am a Pharisee, and the son of Pharisees: I am here to be judged on the question of the hope of the coming back from the dead.
6 Paul, sachant qu'une partie de l'assemblée était composée de sadducéens et l'autre de pharisiens, s'écria dans le sanhédrin: Hommes frères, je suis pharisien, fils de pharisien; c'est à cause de l'espérance et de la résurrection des morts que je suis mis en jugement.

6 Entonces Pablo, sabiendo que la una parte era de Saduceos, y la otra de Fariseos, clamó en el concilio: Varones hermanos, yo soy Fariseo, hijo de Fariseo: de la esperanza y de la resurrección de los muertos soy yo juzgado.
6 Da aber Paulus wußte, daß ein Teil Sadduzäer war und der andere Teil Pharisäer, rief er im Rat: Ihr Männer, liebe Brüder, ich bin ein Pharisäer und eines Pharisäers Sohn; ich werde angeklagt um der Hoffnung und Auferstehung willen der Toten.
7 And when he had said this, there was an argument between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and a division in the meeting.
7 Quand il eut dit cela, il s'éleva une discussion entre les pharisiens et les sadducéens, et l'assemblée se divisa.
7 Ní raibh an méid sin ráite aige nuair a d'éirigh achrann idir na Fairisínigh agus na Sadúcaigh agus bhí an cruinniú scoilte ina dhá chuid,
7 Y como hubo dicho esto, fué hecha disensión entre los Fariseos y los Saduceos; y la multitud fué dividida.

8 For the Sadducees say that there is no coming back from the dead, and no angels or spirits: but the Pharisees have belief in all these.
8 Car les sadducéens disent qu'il n'y a point de résurrection, et qu'il n'existe ni ange ni esprit, tandis que les pharisiens affirment les deux choses.

8 Porque los Saduceos dicen que no hay resurrección, ni ángel, ni espíritu; mas los Fariseos confiesan ambas cosas.

9 And there was a great outcry: and some of the scribes on the side of the Pharisees got up and took part in the discussion, saying, We see no evil in this man: what if he has had a revelation from an angel or a spirit?
9 Il y eut une grande clameur, et quelques scribes du parti des pharisiens, s'étant levés, engagèrent un vif débat, et dirent: Nous ne trouvons aucun mal en cet homme; peut-être un esprit ou un ange lui a-t-il parlé.
9 Mhéadaigh ar an ngleo, agus d'éirigh roinnt scríobhaithe de chuid na bhFairisíneach agus thosaigh siad ag maíomh go colgach: “Ní fhaighimid aon locht ar an bhfear seo. Más ea féin gur labhair aingeal nó spiorad leis...”
9 Y levantóse un gran clamor: y levantándose los escribas de la parte de los Fariseos, contendían diciendo: Ningún mal hallamos en este hombre; que si espíritu le ha hablado, ó ángel, no resistamos á Dios.
9 Es ward aber ein großes Geschrei; und die Schriftgelehrten von der Pharisäer Teil standen auf, stritten und sprachen: Wir finden nichts Arges an diesem Menschen; hat aber ein Geist oder ein Engel mit ihm geredet, so können wir mit Gott nicht streiten.
10 And when the argument became very violent, the chief captain, fearing that Paul would be pulled in two by them, gave orders to the armed men to take him by force from among them, and take him into the army building.
10 Comme la discorde allait croissant, le tribun craignant que Paul ne fût mis en pièces par ces gens, fit descendre les soldats pour l'enlever du milieu d'eux et le conduire à la forteresse.
10 Bhí an t‑achrann ag dul chomh mór sin i méid go raibh eagla ar an gceannasaí go sracfaí Pól as a chéile; dá bhrí sin d'ordaigh sé don arm dul síos agus Pól a tharrtháil uathu agus é a thabhairt isteach sa dúnfort.
10 Y habiendo grande disensión, el tribuno, teniendo temor de que Pablo fuese despedazado de ellos, mandó venir soldados, y arrebatarle de en medio de ellos, y llevarle á la fortaleza.
10 Da aber der Aufruhr groß ward, besorgte sich der oberste Hauptmann, sie möchten Paulus zerreißen, und hieß das Kriegsvolk hinabgehen und ihn von ihnen reißen und in das Lager führen.
11 And the night after, the Lord came to his side and said, Be of good heart, for as you have been witnessing for me in Jerusalem, so will you be my witness in Rome.
11 La nuit suivante, le Seigneur apparut à Paul, et dit: Prends courage; car, de même que tu as rendu témoignage de moi dans Jérusalem, il faut aussi que tu rendes témoignage dans Rome.

11 Y la noche siguiente, presentándosele el Señor, le dijo: Confía, Pablo; que como has testificado de mí en Jerusalem, así es menester testifiques también en Roma.
11 Des andern Tages aber in der Nacht stand der HERR bei ihm und sprach: Sei getrost, Paulus! denn wie du von mir zu Jerusalem gezeugt hast, also mußt du auch zu Rom zeugen.
12 And when it was day, the Jews came together and put themselves under an oath that they would take no food or drink till they had put Paul to death.
12 Quand le jour fut venu, les Juifs formèrent un complot, et firent des imprécations contre eux-mêmes, en disant qu'ils s'abstiendraient de manger et de boire jusqu'à ce qu'ils eussent tué Paul.

12 Y venido el día, algunos de los Judíos se juntaron, é hicieron voto bajo de maldición, diciendo que ni comerían ni beberían hasta que hubiesen muerto á Pablo.
12 Da es aber Tag ward, schlugen sich etliche Juden zusammen und verschworen sich, weder zu essen noch zu trinken, bis daß sie Paulus getötet hätten.
13 And more than forty of them took this oath.
13 Ceux qui formèrent ce complot étaient plus de quarante,

14 And they came to the chief priests and the rulers and said, We have taken a great oath to take no food till we have put Paul to death
14 et ils allèrent trouver les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens, auxquels ils dirent: Nous nous sommes engagés, avec des imprécations contre nous-mêmes, à ne rien manger jusqu'à ce que nous ayons tué Paul.
14 Ansin chuaigh siad go dtí na hardsagairt agus na seanóirí agus dúirt leo: “Ghabhamar de gheasa orainn féin gan aon ní a bhlaiseadh nó go mbeidh Pól marbh againn.
14 Los cuales se fueron á los príncipes de los sacerdotes y á los ancianos, y dijeron: Nosotros hemos hecho voto debajo de maldición, que no hemos de gustar nada hasta que hayamos muerto á Pablo.
14 Die traten zu den Hohenpriestern und Ältesten und sprachen: Wir haben uns hart verschworen, nichts zu essen, bis wir Paulus getötet haben.
15 So now, will you and the Sanhedrin make a request to the military authorities to have him sent down to you, as if you were desiring to go into the business in greater detail; and we, before ever he gets to you, will be waiting to put him to death.
15 Vous donc, maintenant, adressez-vous avec le sanhédrin au tribun, pour qu'il l'amène devant vous, comme si vous vouliez examiner sa cause plus exactement; et nous, avant qu'il approche, nous sommes prêts à le tuer.
15 Dá bhrí sin cuirigí sibhse agus an tsainidrín scéala chun an cheannasaí á iarraidh Pól a chur anuas chugaibh mar dhea gur mhaith libh a chás a fhiosrú ní ba chruinne. Agus beimidne réidh chun é a dhíothú sula mbeidh sé tagtha i ngar.”
15 Ahora pues, vosotros, con el concilio, requerid al tribuno que le saque mañana á vosotros como que queréis entender de él alguna cosa más cierta; y nosotros, antes que él llegue, estaremos aparejados para matarle.
15 So tut nun kund dem Oberhauptmann und dem Rat, daß er ihn morgen zu euch führe, als wolltet ihr ihn besser verhören; wir aber sind bereit, ihn zu töten, ehe er denn vor euch kommt.
16 But Paul's sister's son had word of their design, and he came into the army building and gave news of it to Paul.
16 Le fils de la soeur de Paul, ayant eu connaissance du guet-apens, alla dans la forteresse en informer Paul.

17 And Paul sent for a captain and said, Take this young man to your chief, for he has news for him.
17 Paul appela l'un des centeniers, et dit: Mène ce jeune homme vers le tribun, car il a quelque chose à lui rapporter.

17 Y Pablo, llamando á uno de los centuriones, dice: Lleva á este mancebo al tribuno, porque tiene cierto aviso que darle.
17 Paulus aber rief zu sich einen von den Unterhauptleuten und sprach: Diesen Jüngling führe hin zu dem Oberhauptmann; denn er hat ihm etwas zu sagen.
18 So he took him to the chief captain and said, Paul, the prisoner, made a request to me to take this young man to you, for he has something to say to you.
18 Le centenier prit le jeune homme avec lui, le conduisit vers le tribun, et dit: Le prisonnier Paul m'a appelé, et il m'a prié de t'amener ce jeune homme, qui a quelque chose à te dire.
18 Thóg sé leis é go dtí an ceannasaí agus dúirt: “Chuir an príosúnach Pól fios orm agus d'iarr orm an gasúr seo a thabhairt chugat mar go bhfuil rud aige le rá leat.”
18 El entonces tomándole, le llevó al tribuno, y dijo: El preso Pablo, llamándome, me rogó que trajese á ti este mancebo, que tiene algo que hablarte.
18 Der nahm ihn und führte ihn zum Oberhauptmann und sprach: der gebundene Paulus rief mich zu sich und bat mich, diesen Jüngling zu dir zu führen, der dir etwas zu sagen habe.
19 And the chief took him by the hand and, going on one side, said to him privately, What is it you have to say to me?
19 Le tribun, prenant le jeune homme par la main, et se retirant à l'écart, lui demanda: Qu'as-tu à m'annoncer?

19 Y el tribuno, tomándole de la mano y retirándose aparte, le preguntó: ¿Qué es lo que tienes que decirme?
19 Da nahm ihn der Oberhauptmann bei der Hand und wich an einen besonderen Ort und fragte ihn: Was ist's, das du mir zu sagen hast?
20 And he said, The Jews are in agreement together to make a request to you for Paul to be taken, on the day after this, into the Sanhedrin, to be questioned in greater detail.
20 Il répondit: Les Juifs sont convenus de te prier d'amener Paul demain devant le sanhédrin, comme si tu devais t'enquérir de lui plus exactement.
20 “A leithéid seo,” arsa an gasúr, “tá socair ag na Giúdaigh a iarraidh ortsa Pól a chur síos amárach go dtí an tsainidrín, mar dhea gur mhaith leo a chás a scrúdú ní ba chruinne.
20 Y él dijo: Los Judíos han concertado rogarte que mañana saques á Pablo al concilio, como que han de inquirir de él alguna cosa más cierta.
20 Er aber sprach: Die Juden sind eins geworden, dich zu bitten, daß du morgen Paulus vor den Hohen Rat bringen lassest, als wollten sie ihn besser verhören.
21 But do not give way to them, for more than forty of them are waiting for him, having taken an oath not to take food or drink till they have put him to death: and now they are ready, waiting for your order.
21 Ne les écoute pas, car plus de quarante d'entre eux lui dressent un guet-apens, et se sont engagés, avec des imprécations contre eux-mêmes, à ne rien manger ni boire jusqu'à ce qu'ils l'aient tué; maintenant ils sont prêts, et n'attendent que ton consentement.

21 Mas tú no los creas; porque más de cuarenta hombres de ellos le acechan, los cuales han hecho voto debajo de maldición, de no comer ni beber hasta que le hayan muerto; y ahora están apercibidos esperando tu promesa.
21 Du aber traue ihnen nicht; denn es lauern auf ihn mehr als vierzig Männer unter ihnen, die haben sich verschworen, weder zu essen noch zu trinken, bis sie Paulus töten; und sind jetzt bereit und warten auf deine Verheißung.
22 So the chief captain let the young man go, saying to him, Do not say to anyone that you have given me word of these things.
22 Le tribun renvoya le jeune homme, après lui avoir recommandé de ne parler à personne de ce rapport qu'il lui avait fait.
22 Scaoil an ceannasaí an gasúr chun siúil tar éis a rá leis: “Ná hinis do dhuine ar bith gur nocht tú an scéal seo dom.”
22 Entonces el tribuno despidió al mancebo, mandándole que á nadie dijese que le había dado aviso de esto.
22 Da ließ der Oberhauptmann den Jüngling von sich und gebot ihm, daß niemand sagte, daß er ihm solches eröffnet hätte,
23 And he sent for two captains and said, Make ready two hundred men, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen, to go to Caesarea, at the third hour of the night:
23 Ensuite il appela deux des centeniers, et dit: Tenez prêts, dès la troisième heure de la nuit, deux cents soldats, soixante-dix cavaliers et deux cents archers, pour aller jusqu'à Césarée.

23 Y llamados dos centuriones, mandó que apercibiesen para la hora tercia de la noche doscientos soldados, que fuesen hasta Cesarea, y setenta de á caballo, y doscientos lanceros;
23 und rief zu sich zwei Unterhauptleute und sprach: Rüstet zweihundert Kriegsknechte, daß sie gen Cäsarea ziehen, und siebzig Reiter und zweihundert Schützen auf die dritte Stunde der Nacht;
24 And get beasts so that they may put Paul on them, and take him safely to Felix, the ruler.
24 Qu'il y ait aussi des montures pour Paul, afin qu'on le mène sain et sauf au gouverneur Félix.
24 Agus bíodh beithígh iompair agaibh ar a gcuirfeadh sibh Pól agus é a thabhairt slán go dtí an Gobharnóir Féilix.”
24 Y que aparejasen cabalgaduras en que poniendo á Pablo, le llevasen en salvo á Félix el Presidente.
24 und die Tiere richtet zu, daß sie Paulus draufsetzen und bringen ihn bewahrt zu Felix, dem Landpfleger.
25 And he sent a letter in these words:
25 Il écrivit une lettre ainsi conçue:

25 Und schrieb einen Brief, der lautete also:
26 Claudius Lysias, to the most noble ruler, Felix, peace be with you.

26 “Beatha agus sláinte ó Chlauidias Lisias chun an Ghobharnóra ró-oirirc Féilix.

27 This man was taken by the Jews, and was about to be put to death by them, when I came on them with the army and took him out of danger, having knowledge that he was a Roman.
27 Cet homme, dont les Juifs s'étaient saisis, allait être tué par eux, lorsque je survins avec des soldats et le leur enlevai, ayant appris qu'il était Romain.
27 Bhí beirthe ag na Giúdaigh ar an bhfear seo agus iad ar tí é a chur chun báis nuair a tháinig mé orthu leis an arm; tharrthaigh mé uathu é nuair a fuair mé amach gur saoránach Rómhánach é.
27 A este hombre, aprehendido de los Judíos, y que iban ellos á matar, libré yo acudiendo con la tropa, habiendo entendido que era Romano.
27 Diesen Mann hatten die Juden gegriffen und wollten ihn getötet haben. Da kam ich mit dem Kriegsvolk dazu und riß ihn von ihnen und erfuhr, daß er ein Römer ist.
28 And, desiring to get at the reason for their attack on him, I took him down to their Sanhedrin:
28 Voulant connaître le motif pour lequel ils l'accusaient, je l'amenai devant leur sanhédrin.
28 Ansin d'fhonn a fháil amach cén chúis a bhí acu á chur ina leith, thóg mé chun a sainidríne é.
28 Y queriendo saber la causa por qué le acusaban, le llevé al concilio de ellos:
28 Da ich aber erkunden wollte die Ursache, darum sie ihn beschuldigten, führte ich ihn in ihren Rat.
29 Then it became clear to me that it was a question of their law, and that nothing was said against him which might be a reason for prison or death.
29 J'ai trouvé qu'il était accusé au sujet de questions relatives à leur loi, mais qu'il n'avait commis aucun crime qui mérite la mort ou la prison.
29 Fuair mé amach gur mar gheall ar phointí áirithe dá ndlí féin a bhí siad á chúiseamh agus nach raibh aon ní ina choinne a thuillfeadh bás ná príosún.
29 Y hallé que le acusaban de cuestiones de la ley de ellos, y que ningún crimen tenía digno de muerte ó de prisión.
29 Da befand ich, daß er beschuldigt ward von wegen Fragen ihres Gesetzes, aber keine Anklage hatte, des Todes oder der Bande wert.
30 And when news was given to me that a secret design was being made against the man, I sent him straight away to you, giving orders to those who are against him to make their statements before you.
30 Informé que les Juifs lui dressaient des embûches, je te l'ai aussitôt envoyé, en faisant savoir à ses accusateurs qu'ils eussent à s'adresser eux-mêmes à toi. Adieu.
30 Ach nuair a cuireadh in iúl dom go bhfuil comhcheilg déanta ina choinne, sheol mé chugatsa gan mhoill é agus d'ordaigh mé dá chúiseoirí a ngearán faoi a dhéanamh i do láthairse.”
30 Mas siéndome dado aviso de asechanzas que le habían aparejado los Judíos, luego al punto le he enviado á ti, intimando también á los acusadores que traten delante de ti lo que tienen contra él. Pásalo bien.
30 Und da vor mich kam, daß etliche Juden auf ihn lauerten, sandte ich ihn von Stund an zu dir und entbot den Klägern auch, daß sie vor Dir sagten, was sie wider ihn hätten. Gehab dich wohl!
31 So the armed men, as they were ordered, took Paul and came by night to Antipatris.
