Acts 6

1 Then the high priest said, Are these things true?

1 Ansin d'fhiafraigh an t‑ardsagart de: “An bhfuil seo amhlaidh?”

1 Da sprach der Hohepriester: Ist dem also?

2 And he said, My brothers and fathers, give hearing. The God of glory came to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he was living in Haran,

2 “A bhráithre agus a aithreacha,” ar seisean, “éistigí liom.

3 And said to him, Go out of your land, and away from your family, and come into the land to which I will be your guide.

3 agus dúirt sé leis: ‘Fág do thír agus do mhuintir agus gluais leat chun na tíre a thaispeánfaidh mé duit.’

4 Then he came out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and went into Haran; and from there, when his father was dead, he was guided by God into this land, where you are living now:

4 Il sortit alors du pays des Chaldéens, et s'établit à Charran. De là, après la mort de son père, Dieu le fit passer dans ce pays que vous habitez maintenant;

4 Leis sin d'fhág sé Caildéa agus chuaigh chun cónaithe i gCáran. Agus tar éis bháis a athar, d'aistrigh Dia as sin é chun na tíre ina bhfuil sibhse in bhur gcónaí anois.

4 Entonces salió de la tierra de los Caldeos, y habitó en Chârán: y de allí, muerto su padre, le traspasó á esta tierra, en la cual vosotros habitáis ahora;

5 And God gave him no heritage in it, not even enough to put his foot on: but he gave him an undertaking that he would give it to him and to his children after him, though he had no child at that time.

5 Níor thug Dia seilbh dó, áfach, ar oiread agus fód de thalamh na tíre: ach gheall sé go dtabharfadh sé dó é agus dá shliocht ina dhiaidh, siúd is nach raibh aon sliocht air san am.

6 And God said that his seed would be living in a strange land, and that they would make them servants, and be cruel to them for four hundred years.

6 Seo mar a labhair Dia: ‘Beidh do shliocht ar deoraíocht i dtír iasachta, agus cuirfear faoi dhaorsmacht agus faoi leatrom iad go ceann ceithre chéad bliain;

6 Aber Gott sprach also: Dein Same wird ein Fremdling sein in einem fremden Lande, und sie werden ihn dienstbar machen und übel behandeln vierhundert Jahre;

7 And I will be the judge, said God, of that nation which made them servants: and after that, they will come out and give me worship in this place.

7 ach an cine a mbeidh siad faoi dhaoirse acu, tabharfaidh mé daorbhreith orthu,’ arsa an Tiarna, ‘agus ina dhiaidh sin tiocfaidh siad amach as an tír sin agus tabharfaidh ómós domsa san áit seo.’

8 And he made with him the agreement of which circumcision was the sign. And so Abraham had a son, Isaac, and gave him circumcision on the eighth day; and Isaac had a son, Jacob, and Jacob was the father of the twelve heads of the families of Israel.

8 “Ansin rinne Dia conradh an timpeallghearrtha leis, agus mar sin nuair a rugadh Íosác, rinne Abrahám é a thimpeallghearradh ar an ochtú lá. Rinne Íosác an rud céanna le Iacób agus rinne Iacób é leis an dáréag uasalaithreacha.

9 And the brothers, moved with envy against Joseph, gave him to the Egyptians for money: but God was with him,

10 And made him free from all his troubles, and gave him wisdom and the approval of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who made him ruler over Egypt and all his house.

10 agus thug sé slán é ó gach gábhadh dá raibh i ndán dó, bhronn air grástúlacht agus eagna i bhfianaise Fhorainn, rí na hÉigipte, agus rinne ceannaire ar an Éigipt de agus ceann ar an teaghlach ríoga.

11 Now there was no food to be had in all Egypt and Canaan, and there was great trouble: and our fathers were not able to get food.

12 But Jacob, hearing that there was grain in Egypt, sent out our fathers the first time.

12 Nuair a chuala Iacób go raibh arbhar le fáil san Éigipt chuir sé ár n‑aithreacha ann don chéad uair.

13 And the second time his brothers had a meeting with Joseph, and Pharaoh had knowledge of Joseph's family.

13 Ar an dara turas nocht Iósaef é féin dá dheartháireacha agus fuair Forann fios cér díobh é Iósaef.

14 Then Joseph sent for Jacob his father and all his family, seventy-five persons.

14 Ansin chuir Iósaef fios ar a athair, Iacób, agus ar an teaghlach go léir, cúig dhuine seachtód díobh san iomlán.

15 And Jacob went down to Egypt, and came to his end there, and so did our fathers;

15 Jacob descendit en Égypte, où il mourut, ainsi que nos pères;

15 Chuaigh Iacób síos chun na hÉigipte, áit a bhfuair sé bás, é féin agus ár n‑aithreacha.

15 Así descendió Jacob á Egipto, donde murió él y nuestros padres;

16 And they were taken over to Shechem, and put to rest in the place which Abraham got for a price in silver from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.

16 Aistríodh a gcoirp go Seicim, áfach, agus cuireadh iad sa tuama úd a bhí ceannaithe ann ag Abrahám ar shuim airgid ó chlann Eamór i Seicim.

17 But when the time was near for putting into effect the undertaking which God had given to Abraham, the people were increasing in Egypt,

17 “Nuair a bhí an t‑am ag teacht go gcomhlíonfaí an gealltanas a thug Dia d'Abrahám, bhí ár muintir san Éigipt dulta i méad agus i líonmhaireacht

18 Till another king came to power, who had no knowledge of Joseph.

18 nó gur tháinig rí i gcoróin ann nárbh aithnid dó Iósaef.

19 He, having evil designs against our nation, was cruel to our fathers, and they were forced to put out their young children, so that they might not go on living.

19 D'imir an rí seo calaois ar ár gcine. Rinne sé leatrom ar ár sinsir agus chuir d'fhiacha orthu a leanaí a chaitheamh amach i dtreo nach mairfidís.

20 At which time Moses came to birth, and he was very beautiful; and he was kept for three months in his father's house:

20 A cette époque, naquit Moïse, qui était beau aux yeux de Dieu. Il fut nourri trois mois dans la maison de son père;

20 “Ag an am seo is ea a rugadh Maois. Ba an-chaithiseach an leanbh é agus oileadh ar feadh trí mhí i dteach a athar é

21 And when he was put out, Pharaoh's daughter took him and kept him as her son.

21 ach nuair a cuireadh amach é, thóg iníon Fhorainn é agus rinne sí é a oiliúint amhail is dá mba mhac léi féin é.

22 And Moses was trained in all the wisdom of Egypt, and was great in his words and works.

22 Múineadh eagna uile na nÉigipteach dó agus is é a bhí cumasach i mbriathar agus i ngníomh.

23 But when he was almost forty years old, it came into his heart to go and see his brothers, the children of Israel.

23 “Bhí sé ag tarraingt ar an daichead nuair a bhuail an smaoineamh é dul ag fiosrú a mhuintire féin, clann Iosrael.

24 And seeing one of them being attacked, he went to his help and gave the Egyptian a death-blow:

24 Nuair a chonaic sé éagóir á dhéanamh ar dhuine acu, chuaigh sé á chosaint, threascair sé an tÉigipteach agus bhain díoltas amach don té a ndearnadh éagóir air.

25 And he was hoping that his brothers would see that God had sent him to be their saviour; but they did not see.

25 Mheas sé go dtuigfeadh a mhuintir gur á bhfuascailt a chuir Dia chucu é, ach níor thuig.

26 And the day after, he came to them, while they were having a fight, and would have made peace between them, saying, Sirs, you are brothers; why do you do wrong to one another?

Cad uime a bhfuil sibh ag déanamh éagóra ar a chéile?’

27 But the man who was doing wrong to his neighbour, pushing him away, said, Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?

27 An fear a bhí ag déanamh na héagóra ar a chomharsa, bhrúigh sé Maois uaidh á rá: ‘Cé a cheap thusa i do cheann urra agus i do bhreitheamh orainn?

28 Will you put me to death as you did the Egyptian yesterday?

28 Veux-tu me tuer, comme tu as tué hier l'Égyptien?

28 An mé a mharú is áil leat mar a mharaigh tú an tÉigipteach úd inné?’

29 And at these words, Moses went in flight to the land of Midian, and was living there for a time, and had two sons.

29 Ar chlos na cainte sin do Mhaois, theith sé agus bhí sé ina dheoraí i Midián, áit ar ghin sé beirt mhac.

30 At the end of forty years, an angel came to him in the waste land of Sinai, in the flame of a burning thorn-tree.

30 “Daichead bliain ina dhiaidh sin thaispeáin aingeal an Tiarna é féin dó i lasair an toir i bhfásach Shliabh Shíonái.

31 And Moses, seeing it, was full of wonder, and when he came up to have a nearer view of it, the voice of the Lord came to him, saying,

31 Chuir an radharc ionadh ar Mhaois, agus nuair a dhruid sé in aice an toir á bhreithniú, tháinig guth an Tiarna chuige:

32 I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob. And Moses, shaking with fear, kept his eyes from looking at it.

32 ‘Mise Dia do shinsear, Dia Abrahám agus Íosác agus Iacóib.’

33 And the Lord said, Take off the shoes from your feet, for the place where you are is holy.

33 Ansin labhair an Tiarna leis: ‘Bain díot do chuaráin,’ ar seisean, ‘mar is talamh naofa an ball ina bhfuil tú i do sheasamh.

34 Truly, I have seen the sorrows of my people in Egypt, and their cries have come to my ears, and I have come down to make them free: and now, come, I will send you to Egypt.

34 Tá drochíde mo phobail san Éigipt feicthe agam go dearfa - tá a gcuid osna cloiste agam agus tháinig mé á bhfuascailt. Agus seo anois, táim chun tusa a chur mar theachtaire go dtí an Éigipt.’

34 He visto, he visto la aflicción de mi pueblo que está en Egipto, y he oído el gemido de ellos, y he descendido para librarlos.

35 This Moses, whom they would not have, saying, Who made you a ruler and a judge? him God sent to be a ruler and a saviour, by the hand of the angel whom he saw in the thorn-tree.

35 “An Maois seo ar dhiúltaigh siad dó á rá: ‘Cé a cheap thusa i do cheann urra agus i do réiteoir orainn,’ sin é an fear a sheol Dia chucu ina cheann agus ina fhuascailteoir le cabhair an aingil a thaispeáin é féin dó ag an tor.

36 This man took them out, having done wonders and signs in Egypt and in the Red Sea and in the waste land, for forty years.

36 Eisean a sheol amach iad agus a rinne éachtaí agus míorúiltí i dtír na hÉigipte agus ag an Muir Rua agus san fhásach ar feadh daichead bliain.

37 This is the same Moses, who said to the children of Israel, God will give you a prophet from among your brothers, like me.

37 Sin é an Maois céanna a dúirt le clann Iosrael: ‘Ardóidh Dia fáidh eile daoibh as bhur gcine féin faoi mar a d'ardaigh sé mise.’

38 This is the man who was in the church in the waste land with the angel who was talking to him in Sinai, and with our fathers; and to him were given the living words of God, so that he might give them to you.

38 Sin é an fear a bhí leis an bpobal san fhásach i gcuideachta an aingil a labhair leis ar Shliabh Shíonái, agus i gcuideachta ár sinsear, agus a fuair briathra beo le tabhairt dúinne.

38 Dieser ist's, der in der Gemeinde in der Wüste mit dem Engel war, der ihm redete auf dem Berge Sinai und mit unsern Vätern; dieser empfing lebendige Worte, uns zu geben;

39 By whom our fathers would not be controlled; but they put him on one side, turning back in their hearts to Egypt,

39 Ach ní ghéillfeadh ár sinsir dó: thug siad droim láimhe dó agus d'iompaigh a gcroí ar an Éigipt athuair,

40 And saying to Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: as for this Moses, who took us out of the land of Egypt, we have no idea what has become of him.

An Maois seo a sheol as tír na hÉigipte sinn, ní fheadramar cad a d'imigh air,’

41 And they made the image of a young ox in those days, and made an offering to it, and had joy in the work of their hands.

41 agus rinne siad íomhá lao sna laethanta sin agus d'ofráil íobairt don íol agus rinne siad aoibhneas as saothar a lámh.

42 But God was turned from them and let them give worship to the stars of heaven, as it says in the book of the prophets, Did you make offerings to me of sheep and oxen for forty years in the waste land, O house of Israel?

42 Ach d'iompaigh Dia uathu agus lig dóibh adhradh a thabhairt do na ranna neimhe de réir mar atá scríofa i leabhar na bhfáithe: ‘Ní domsa a thug sibh tíolacthaí agus íobairt ar feadh daichead bliain san fhásach, a theaghlach Iosrael;

43 And you took up the tent of Moloch and the star of the god Rephan, images which you made to give worship to them: and I will take you away, farther than Babylon.

43 is both Mholoch a rinne sibh a iompar agus réalt Reafas, bhur ndia; b'shin iad na híomhánna a rinne sibh le hadhradh agus díbreoidh mé sibh thar Bablóin soir.’ ”

44 Our fathers had the Tent of witness in the waste land, as God gave orders to Moses to make it after the design which he had seen.

44 “Bhí both an fhoilsithe ag ár sinsir san fhásach. An té úd a bhíodh ag labhairt le Maois, d'ordaigh sé dó í a dhéanamh de réir an phatrúin a bhí feicthe aige.

44 Es hatten unsre Väter die Hütte des Zeugnisses in der Wüste, wie ihnen das verordnet hatte, der zu Mose redete, daß er sie machen sollte nach dem Vorbilde, das er gesehen hatte;

45 Which our fathers, in their turn, took with them when, with Joshua, they came into the heritage of the nations whom God was driving out before the face of our fathers, till the time of David,

45 Fuair an chéad ghlúin eile dár sinsir í mar oidhreacht agus thug siad féin agus Iósua isteach leo í i ndúiche na gciníocha a ruaig Dia amach rompu; agus d'fhan sí ann go dtí aimsir Dháiví.

45 El cual recibido, metieron también nuestros padres con Josué en la posesión de los Gentiles, que Dios echó de la presencia de nuestros padres, hasta los días de David;

46 Who was pleasing to God; and he had a desire to make a holy tent for the God of Jacob.

46 David trouva grâce devant Dieu, et demanda d'élever une demeure pour le Dieu de Jacob;

46 Fuair Dáiví gean ó Dhia agus d'iarr sé cead air áitreabh a fháil do Dhia Iacóib.

47 But Solomon was the builder of his house.

47 Ach ba é Solamh a thóg teach dó.

47 Mas Salomón le edificó casa.

47 Salomo aber baute ihm ein Haus.

48 But still, the Most High has not his resting-place in houses made with hands, as the prophet says,

48 Ar a shon sin ní chónaíonn an té is airde i dtithe lámhdhéanta, de réir mar a deir an fáidh:

49 Heaven is the seat of my power, and earth is a resting-place for my feet: what sort of house will you make for me, says the Lord, or what is my place of rest?

49 ‘Is iad na spéartha mo chathaoir ríoga, agus an talamh stól mo chos. Cén sórt tí a thógfaidh sibhse dom, arsa an Tiarna, nó cá mbeidh m'áit chónaithe?

50 Did not my hand make all these things?

50 Nach í mo lámhsa a rinne na nithe seo uile?’ ”

50 ¿No hizo mi mano todas estas cosas?

50 Hat nicht meine Hand das alles gemacht?"

51 You whose hearts are hard and whose ears are shut to me; you are ever working against the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.

51 “Nach ceanndána an dream sibh agus nach stuacach atá bhur gcroí agus bhur gcluasa? Bíonn sibh ag cur in aghaidh an Spioraid Naoimh de shíor mar a dhéanadh bhur sinsir romhaibh.

52 Which of the prophets was not cruelly attacked by your fathers? and they put to death those who gave them the news of the coming of the Upright One; whom you have now given up and put to death;

Agus d'imir siad an bás orthu siúd a thairngir teacht an Fhíréin. Agus anois tá sibhse tar éis é a bhrath agus a chur chun báis,

52 ¿A cuál de los profetas no persiguieron vuestros padres? y mataron á los que antes anunciaron la venida del Justo, del cual vosotros ahora habéis sido entregadores y matadores;

53 You, to whom the law was given as it was ordered by angels, and who have not kept it.

53 sibhse a fuair an dlí trí bhíthin na n‑aingeal ach nár choimeád é.”

54 Hearing these things, they were cut to the heart and moved with wrath against him.

54 Chuaigh an chaint sin trí chroí a lucht éiste agus tháinig díoscán fiacla orthu chuige.

55 But he was full of the Holy Spirit, and looking up to heaven, he saw the glory of God and Jesus at the right hand of God.

55 Ach bhí seisean lán den Spiorad Naomh, agus, ag féachaint in airde chun na bhflaitheas dó, chonaic sé glóir Dé agus Íosa ina sheasamh ar dheis Dé.

56 And he said, Now I see heaven open, and the Son of man at the right hand of God.

56 “Féach,” ar seisean, “feicim na flaithis ar oscailt agus Mac an Duine ina sheasamh ar dheis Dé.”

57 But with loud cries, and stopping their ears, they made an attack on him all together,

57 Leis sin lig siad béic ard astu agus gan éisteacht le focal eile thug siad ruathar faoi in éineacht,

57 Entonces dando grandes voces, se taparon sus oídos, y arremetieron unánimes contra él;

58 Driving him out of the town and stoning him: and the witnesses put their clothing at the feet of a young man named Saul.

58 thiomáin amach as an gcathair é agus thosaigh siad ar ghabháil de chlocha air. D'fhág na finnéithe a mbrait ag cosa ógfhir darbh ainm Sól.

59 And Stephen, while he was being stoned, made prayer to God, saying, Lord Jesus, take my spirit.

59 Fad a bhí siad á chlochadh bhí Stiofán ag glao os ard á rá: “A Thiarna Íosa, glac chugat m'anam.”

60 And going down on his knees, he said in a loud voice, Lord, do not make them responsible for this sin. And when he had said this, he went to his rest.

60 Ar thitim dó ar a ghlúine scread sé in ard a ghutha: “A Thiarna, ná hagair orthu an peaca seo.”
