Acts 5

1 Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was increasing, protests were made by the Greek Jews against the Hebrews, because their widows were not taken care of in the distribution of food every day.

1 San am sin, nuair a bhí líon na ndeisceabal ag méadú, thosaigh na Heilléanaigh ag casaoid ar na hEabhraigh faoi go raibh faillí á dhéanamh ar a mbaintreacha féin sa fhriothálamh laethúil.

2 And the Apostles sent for all the disciples and said, It is not right for us to give up preaching the word of God in order to make distribution of food.

2 Dá chionn sin ghlaoigh an dáréag chucu na deisceabail go léir in éineacht agus labhair leo: “Ní dóigh linn,” ar siad, “go mba cheart dúinne briathar Dé a fhágáil chun dul ag freastal ag boird.

3 Take then from among you seven men of good name, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, to whom we may give control of this business.

3 Dá bhrí sin, a bhráithre, déanaigí seachtar fear creidiúnach agaibh féin a thoghadh, fir a bheidh lán den Spiorad agus den eagna, go gcuirfimis i mbun an chúraim seo.

4 Then we will give all our time to prayer and the teaching of the word.

4 Agus leanfaimidne den urnaí agus de sheirbhís an bhriathair.”

5 And this saying was pleasing to all of them: and they made selection of Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolas of Antioch, who had become a Jew:

5 Cette proposition plut à toute l'assemblée. Ils élurent Étienne, homme plein de foi et d'Esprit Saint, Philippe, Prochore, Nicanor, Timon, Parménas, et Nicolas, prosélyte d'Antioche.

5 Bhí an slua iomlán sásta leis an moladh sin agus roghnaigh siad na daoine seo a leanas: Stiofán, fear a bhí lán de chreideamh agus den Spiorad Naomh, Pilib agus Prochonór, Níocanór agus Tiomón, Parmanas agus Nioclás, léivíteach ó Aintíoch.

6 These they took to the Apostles, who, after prayer, put their hands on them.

6 Thug siad i láthair na n‑aspal iad, agus tar éis dóibh sin urnaí a dhéanamh leag siad a lámha orthu.

7 And the word of God was increasing in power; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem became very great, and a great number of priests were in agreement with the faith.

7 De réir mar a leath briathar Dé, chuaigh líon na ndeisceabal in Iarúsailéim i méad as cuimse, agus ghlac buíon mhór de na sagairt féin leis an gcreideamh.

8 And Stephen, full of grace and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.

8 Bhí Stiofán lán de ghrásta agus de chumhacht agus é ag déanamh éachtaí agus míorúiltí taibhseacha i measc an phobail.

9 But some of those who were of the Synagogue named that of the Libertines, and some of the men of Cyrene and of Alexandria and those from Cilicia and Asia, had arguments with Stephen.

9 Quelques membres de la synagogue dite des Affranchis, de celle des Cyrénéens et de celle des Alexandrins, avec des Juifs de Cilicie et d'Asie, se mirent à discuter avec lui;

10 But they were not able to get the better of him, for his words were full of wisdom and of the Spirit.

10 ach ní raibh ar a gcumas aon cheart a bhaint dá chuid eagna ná den Spiorad lenar labhair sé.

11 Then they got men to say, He has said evil against Moses and against God, in our hearing.

11 Faoi dheireadh chuir siad suas daoine áirithe chun a rá gur chuala siad é ag labhairt go maslaitheach faoi Mhaois agus faoi Dhia.

12 And the people, with the rulers and the scribes, were moved against him, and they came and took him before the Sanhedrin,

12 Ghríosaigh siad an pobal agus na seanóirí agus na scríobhaithe; ansin rith siad faoina dhéin, ghreamaigh eatarthu é agus sheol chun na sainidríne é.

13 And they got false witnesses who said, This man is for ever saying things against this holy place and against the law:

13 Ils produisirent de faux témoins, qui dirent: Cet homme ne cesse de proférer des paroles contre le lieu saint et contre la loi;

13 Thug siad finnéithe bréige i láthair á rá: “Ní stadann an duine seo ach ag caint i gcoinne na háite naofa seo agus i gcoinne an dlí.

14 For he has said in our hearing that this Jesus of Nazareth will put this place to destruction and make changes in the rules which were handed down to us by Moses.

14 Chualamar é á rá go ndéanfadh an Íosa Nazórach úd an áit seo a leagan ar lár agus na gnásanna a d'fhág Maois againn a athrú.”

15 And all those who were in the Sanhedrin, looking at him, saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

15 Bhí a raibh ina suí sa tsainidrín ag faire go dlúth ar Stiofán agus thug siad faoi deara go raibh a ghnúis mar bheadh gnúis aingil.
