John 2

1 Now there was among the Pharisees a man named Nicodemus, who was one of the rulers of the Jews.

2 He came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we are certain that you have come from God as a teacher, because no man would be able to do these signs which you do if God was not with him.

2 Tháinig an duine seo chuige san oíche agus dúirt leis: “Tá fhios againn, a raibí, gur oide thú a tháinig ó Dhia óir ní féidir le haon duine na comharthaí seo a dhéanann tú a dhéanamh gan Dia a bheith leis.”

3 Jesus said to him, Truly, I say to you, Without a new birth no man is able to see the kingdom of God.

3 D'fhreagair Íosa: “Amen, Amen,” ar sé leis, “mura nginfear duine athuair ní féidir dó ríocht Dé a fheiceáil.”

4 Nicodemus said to him, How is it possible for a man to be given birth when he is old? Is he able to go into his mother's body a second time and come to birth again?

4 Dúirt Níocodaemas leis: “Conas is féidir duine a ghiniúint agus é ina sheanduine? An amhlaidh a d'fhéadfadh sé dul isteach i mbroinn a mháthar agus teacht ar an saol athuair?”

5 Jesus said in answer, Truly, I say to you, If a man's birth is not from water and from the Spirit, it is not possible for him to go into the kingdom of God.

5 D'fhreagair Íosa: “Go deimhin féin a deirim leat, mura ngintear duine ó uisce agus ón Spiorad, ní féidir dó dul isteach i ríocht Dé.

6 That which has birth from the flesh is flesh, and that which has birth from the Spirit is spirit.

6 An ghin a gineadh ón bhfeoil is feoil í; an ghin ón Spiorad is spiorad í.

6 Was vom Fleisch geboren wird, das ist Fleisch; und was vom Geist geboren wird, das ist Geist.

7 Do not be surprised that I say to you, It is necessary for you to have a second birth.

7 Ná déan ionadh de go ndúirt mé leat: ‘Ní foláir sibh a ghiniúint arís ó lastuas.’

8 The wind goes where its pleasure takes it, and the sound of it comes to your ears, but you are unable to say where it comes from and where it goes: so it is with everyone whose birth is from the Spirit.

8 Séideann an ghaoth mar is áil léi. Is clos duit a glór, ach ní eol duit cad as di ná cá ngabhann sí. A dála-san ag gach duine a ghintear ón Spiorad.”

9 And Nicodemus said to him, How is it possible for these things to be?

9 D'fhreagair Níocodaemas: “Conas is féidir na nithe sin a bheith amhlaidh?” ar sé leis.

10 And Jesus, answering, said, Are you the teacher of Israel and have no knowledge of these things?

10 D'fhreagair Íosa: “Is oide in Iosrael thú,” ar sé leis, “agus nach eol duit na nithe sin!

11 Truly, I say to you, We say that of which we have knowledge; we give witness of what we have seen; and you do not take our witness to be true.

11 Go deimhin féin a deirim leat, an ní is eol dúinn is air a labhraimid, agus an ní a chonacamar is air a thugaimid fianaise, ach ní ghlacann sibh ár bhfianaise.

11 Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage dir: Wir reden, was wir wissen, und zeugen, was wir gesehen haben; und ihr nehmt unser Zeugnis nicht an.

12 If you have no belief when my words are about the things of earth, how will you have belief if my words are about the things of heaven?

12 Má inis mé nithe talmhaí daoibh, agus nach gcreideann sibh, cén chaoi a chreidfidh sibh, má insím nithe neamhaí daoibh?

12 Si os he dicho cosas terrenas, y no creéis, ¿cómo creeréis si os dijere las celestiales?

13 And no one has ever gone up to heaven but he who came down from heaven, the Son of man.

13 Níl aon duine a chuaigh suas ar neamh, ach an té a tháinig anuas ó neamh, Mac an Duine [atá ar neamh].

14 As the snake was lifted up by Moses in the waste land, even so it is necessary for the Son of man to be lifted up:

14 Faoi mar a d'ardaigh Maois an nathair nimhe san fhásach, sin mar a chaithfear Mac an Duine a ardú,

14 Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sea levantado;

15 So that whoever has faith may have in him eternal life.

15 i dtreo, gach duine a chreideann ann, go mbeidh an bheatha shíoraí aige.

16 For God had such love for the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever has faith in him may not come to destruction but have eternal life.

16 Óir ghráigh Dia an domhan chomh mór sin gur thug sé a Aonghin Mic uaidh i dtreo, gach duine a chreideann ann, nach gcaillfí é ach go mbeadh an bheatha shioraí aige.

17 God did not send his Son into the world to be judge of the world; he sent him so that the world might have salvation through him.

17 Óir ní chun daorbhreith a thabhairt ar an saol a chuir Dia a Mhac uaidh ar an saol ach chun go slánófaí an saol tríd.

18 The man who has faith in him does not come up to be judged; but he who has no faith in him has been judged even now, because he has no faith in the name of the only Son of God.

18 An té a chreideann ann ní thabharfar daorbhreith air, ach an té nach gcreideann ann, tá daorbhreith tugtha air cheana féin, mar nár chreid sé in ainm Mhac Dé, a Aonghin.

19 And this is the test by which men are judged: the light has come into the world and men have more love for the dark than for the light, because their acts are evil.

19 Agus an daorbhreith, is mar seo í: mar gur tháinig an solas isteach sa saol, agus gur rogha leis na daoine an dorchadas thar an solas de bhrí gurbh olc iad a ngníomhartha.

20 The light is hated by everyone whose acts are evil and he does not come to the light for fear that his acts will be seen.

20 Car quiconque fait le mal hait la lumière, et ne vient point à la lumière, de peur que ses oeuvres ne soient dévoilées;

20 Óir gach duine a bhíonn ag déanamh an oilc, bíonn fuath aige don solas agus seachnaíonn sé an solas, le heagla go gcáinfí a ghníomhartha.

21 But he whose life is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his acts have been done by the help of God.

21 Ach an té a dhéanann an fhírinne, tagann sé chun an tsolais, chun go dtaispeáinfí gur i nDia a rinneadh a ghníomhartha.” Fianaise Dheiridh Eoin

22 After these things Jesus and his disciples went into the land of Judaea, and there he was with them for some time, giving baptism.

22 Ina dhiaidh sin tháinig Íosa agus a dheisceabail i ndúiche Iúdáia agus d'fhan sé ansiúd leo agus bhí ag déanamh baiste.

23 Now John was then giving baptism at Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people came and were given baptism.

23 Bhí Eoin ag baisteadh comh maith in Aenón in aice le Sailím mar bhí fliúirse uisce ann; agus thagadh na daoine ann agus bhaistí iad.

24 For at this time John had not been put into prison.

24 Óir bhí Eoin fós gan cur i gcarcair.

25 Then a question came up between John's disciples and a Jew about washing.

26 And they went to John and said to him, Rabbi, the man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, the man to whom you gave witness, is now giving baptism, and everyone is going to him.

26 Tháinig siad chun Eoin agus dúirt siad leis: “A raibí, an té a bhí farat lastall den Iordáin, an té ar a ndearna tú fianaise, féach, tá seisean ag déanamh baiste agus tá na daoine go léir ag dul chuige.”

27 And this was John's answer: A man is unable to have anything if it is not given to him from heaven.

27 D'fhreagair Eoin: “Ní féidir do dhuine aon ní a ghlacadh,” ar sé, “mura dtugtar dó ó neamh.

28 You yourselves give witness that I said, I am not the Christ. What I said was, I am sent before the Christ.

28 Is finnéithe sibh féin orm go ndúirt mé: ‘Ní mise an Críost, ach gur cuireadh roimhe amach mé.’

29 He who has the bride is the husband: but the husband's friend, whose place is by his side and whose ears are open to him, is full of joy because of the husband's voice: such is my joy, and it is complete.

29 An té a bhfuil an nuachair aige, sin é an céile; ach cara an chéile, atá ina sheasamh ag éisteacht leis, tagann racht áthais air de bharr guth an chéile. An t‑áthas mar sin atá ormsa, tá sé iomlán.

30 He has to become greater while I become less.

30 A él conviene crecer, mas á mí menguar.

30 Er muß wachsen, ich aber muß abnehmen.

31 He who comes from heaven is greater than all others: he who comes from earth is of the earth, and of the earth are his words: he who comes from heaven is over all.

31 An té a thagann anuas tá sé os cionn cách. An té atá ón talamh is ón talamh dó agus is dá réir a labhraíonn sé. An té a thagann ó neamh tá sé os cionn cách.

32 He gives witness of what he has seen and of what has come to his ears; and no man takes his witness as true.

32 An rud a chonaic sé agus a chuala sé, déanann sé fianaise air, ach ní ghlacann aon duine lena fhianaise.

33 He who so takes his witness has made clear his faith that God is true.

33 Celui qui a reçu son témoignage a certifié que Dieu est vrai;

33 An té a ghlacann a fhianaise chuir sé a shéala leis gur fírinneach é Dia.

34 For he whom God has sent says God's words; and God does not give him the Spirit by measure.

34 Óir an té a chuir Dia uaidh, labhraíonn sé briathra Dé; mar ní de réir tomhais a thugann [Dia] an Spiorad.

35 The Father has love for the Son and has put all things into his hands.

35 Tá grá ag an Athair don Mhac agus tá gach uile ní tugtha ina láimh aige dó.

36 He who has faith in the Son has eternal life; but he who has not faith in the Son will not see life; God's wrath is resting on him.

36 An té a chreideann sa Mhac tá an bheatha shíoraí aige. Ach an té nach gcreideann sa Mhac, ní fheicfidh sé an bheatha, ach tá fearg Dé socair air.”
