Matthew 4

1 And seeing great masses of people he went up into the mountain; and when he was seated his disciples came to him.

1 Nuair a chonaic sé na sluaite, chuaigh sé an sliabh suas. Shuigh sé síos agus tháinig a dheisceabail chuige.

2 And with these words he gave them teaching, saying,

3 Happy are the poor in spirit: for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

3 “Is méanar dóibh seo atá bocht ó spiorad, óir is leo ríocht na bhflaitheas.

4 Happy are those who are sad: for they will be comforted.

4 Heureux les affligés, car ils seront consolés!

4 “Is méanar do lucht an dobróin, óir sólásófar iad.

5 Happy are the gentle: for the earth will be their heritage.

5 “Is méanar dóibh seo atá ceansa, óir gheobhaidh siad an talamh mar oidhreacht.

6 Happy are those whose heart's desire is for righteousness: for they will have their desire.

6 “Is méanar dóibh seo a bhfuil ocras agus tart chun na fíréantachta orthu, óir sásófar iad.

7 Happy are those who have mercy: for they will be given mercy.

7 Heureux les miséricordieux, car ils obtiendront miséricorde!

7 “Is méanar do lucht na trócaire, óir déanfar trócaire orthu.

8 Happy are the clean in heart: for they will see God.

8 “Is méanar dóibh seo atá glan ó chroí, óir feicfidh siad Dia.

9 Happy are the peacemakers: for they will be named sons of God.

9 “Is méanar do lucht síochána a dhéanamh, óir glaofar clann Dé orthu.

10 Happy are those who are attacked on account of righteousness: for the kingdom of heaven will be theirs.

10 “Is méanar dóibh seo a d'fhulaing géarleanúint mar gheall ar an bhfíréantacht, óir is leo ríocht na bhflaitheas.

11 Happy are you when men give you a bad name, and are cruel to you, and say all evil things against you falsely, because of me.

11 “Is méanar daoibh féin nuair a thabharfar aithis daoibh agus a ghéarleanfar sibh, agus nuair a chuirfear gach sórt drochrud in bhur leith go bréagach mar gheall ormsa.

12 Be glad and full of joy; for great is your reward in heaven: for so were the prophets attacked who were before you.

12 “Bíodh áthas oraibh agus gairdeas, mar is mór é bhur dtuarastal ar neamh; óir is mar sin a rinneadh géarleanúint ar na fáithe a chuaigh romhaibh. Feidhm na nDeisceabal sa Saol -- an Sean-Dlí agus an Dlí Nua

13 You are the salt of the earth; but if its taste goes from the salt, how will you make it salt again? it is then good for nothing but to be put out and crushed under foot by men.

13 “Is sibhse salann na talún. Ach má éiríonn an salann leamh, cad a dhéanfaidh goirt arís é?

14 You are the light of the world. A town put on a hill may be seen by all.

14 Vous êtes la lumière du monde. Une ville située sur une montagne ne peut être cachée;

14 Is sibhse solas an domhain. Cathair ar mhullach cnoic ní féidir í a cheilt.

15 And a burning light is not put under a vessel, but on its table; so that its rays may be shining on all who are in the house.

15 Ná ní lastar lampa chun é a chur faoi bhéal na peice, ach in airde ar an gcrann solais mar a dtugann sé solas dá mbíonn sa teach.

16 Even so let your light be shining before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

16 Sibhse mar an gcéanna, bíodh bhur solas ag taitneamh os comhair daoine chun go bhfeicfidís bhur ndeaghníomhartha agus go nglóireoidís bhur nAthair atá ar neamh.

17 Let there be no thought that I have come to put an end to the law or the prophets. I have not come for destruction, but to make complete.

17 “Ná bígí ag ceapadh gur chun an dlí agus na fáithe a chur ar ceal a tháinig mé. Ní á gcur ar ceal a tháinig mé ach á gcur i gcrích.

17 No penséis que he venido para abrogar la ley ó los profetas: no he venido para abrogar, sino á cumplir.

18 Truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth come to an end, not the smallest letter or part of a letter will in any way be taken from the law, till all things are done.

18 Óir deirim libh go fírinneach, is túisce a imeoidh neamh agus talamh ná mar a imeoidh aon litir ná aon ghiota den dlí gan gach aon ní a bheith tagtha i gcrích.

19 Whoever then goes against the smallest of these laws, teaching men to do the same, will be named least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who keeps the laws, teaching others to keep them, will be named great in the kingdom of heaven.

19 Dá bhrí sin, an té a chuirfidh aon aithne ar ceal den chuid is lú de na haitheanta seo, agus a mhúinfidh do dhaoine eile an rud céanna a dhéanamh, measfar é sin ar an té is lú i ríocht na bhflaitheas. Ach an té a choimeádfaidh iad agus a mhúinfidh, measfar eisean ina dhuine mór i ríocht na bhflaitheas.

20 For I say to you, If your righteousness is not greater than the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never go into the kingdom of heaven.

20 Óir deirim libh, mura mbíonn barr fíréantachta agaibh ar a mbíonn ag na scríobhaithe agus ag na Fairisínigh, is cinnte nach rachaidh sibh isteach i ríocht na bhflaitheas. An Cúigiú hAithne

21 You have knowledge that it was said in old times, You may not put to death; and, Whoever puts to death will be in danger of being judged:

21 “Chuala sibh go ndúradh leis na sinsir: ‘Ná déan marú; agus má dhéanann duine marú beidh air freagairt ann don bhreithiúnas.’

22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be in danger of being judged; and he who says to his brother, Raca, will be in danger from the Sanhedrin; and whoever says, You foolish one, will be in danger of the hell of fire.

22 Ach is é a deirimse libh, duine ar bith a bhíonn i bhfeirg lena bhráthair, beidh air freagairt ann don bhreithiúnas, agus má deir aon duine lena bhráthair ‘Ceann baoth’, beidh air freagairt ann don tsainidrín; agus má deir sé ‘Amadán’ leis, beidh air freagairt ann i dtine ifrinn.

23 If then you are making an offering at the altar and there it comes to your mind that your brother has something against you,

23 Si donc tu présentes ton offrande à l'autel, et que là tu te souviennes que ton frère a quelque chose contre toi,

23 Dá réir sin, má bhíonn tú ag tabhairt d'ofrála chun na haltóra agus go gcuimhneoidh tú ansin go bhfuil cúis ghearáin éigin ag do bhráthair ort,

24 While your offering is still before the altar, first go and make peace with your brother, then come and make your offering.

25 Come to an agreement quickly with him who has a cause against you at law, while you are with him on the way, for fear that he may give you up to the judge and the judge may give you to the police and you may be put into prison.

25 An duine a chúisíonn thú, tar chun réitigh leis gan mhoill agus tú ag gabháil na slí leis, le heagla go dtabharfadh fear do chúisithe suas don bhreitheamh thú, agus an breitheamh don phóilín, agus go gcuirfí i bpriosún thú.

26 Truly I say to you, You will not come out from there till you have made payment of the very last farthing.

26 Deirim leat go fírinneach, ní thiocfaidh tú amach as sin go mbeidh an cianóigín deireanach díolta agat. An tAdhaltranas agus an tIdirscaradh

27 You have knowledge that it was said, You may not have connection with another man's wife:

27 “Chuala sibh go ndúradh: ‘Ná déan adhaltranas.’

28 But I say to you that everyone whose eyes are turned on a woman with desire has had connection with her in his heart.

28 Ach is é a deirimse libh, duine ar bith a bhreathnaíonn ar bhean le dúil inti, tá adhaltranas déanta aige léi cheana féin ina chroí.

29 And if your right eye is a cause of trouble to you, take it out and put it away from you; because it is better to undergo the loss of one part, than for all your body to go into hell.

29 Más siocair pheaca duit do shúil dheas, srac amach í agus caith uait í, óir is fearr duit ball de do chorp a chailleadh ná do chorp ar fad a chaitheamh isteach in ifreann.

30 And if your right hand is a cause of trouble to you, let it be cut off and put it away from you; because it is better to undergo the loss of one part, than for all your body to go into hell.

30 Agus más siocair pheaca duit do lámh dheas, gearr anuas í agus caith uait í, óir is fearr duit ball de do chorp a chailleadh ná go rachadh do chorp ar fad isteach in ifreann.

31 Again, it was said, Whoever puts away his wife has to give her a statement in writing for this purpose:

31 “Dúradh fós: ‘Má scaoileann duine a bhean uaidh tugadh sé litir idirscartha di.’

32 But I say to you that everyone who puts away his wife for any other cause but the loss of her virtue, makes her false to her husband; and whoever takes her as his wife after she is put away, is no true husband to her.

32 Ach is é a deirimse libh, gach aon duine a scaoileann uaidh a bhean, taobh amuigh de chás an striapachais, ligeann sé le hadhaltranas í, agus duine ar bith a phósann bean a scaoileadh, déanann sé adhaltranas.

33 Again, you have knowledge that it was said in old times, Do not take false oaths, but give effect to your oaths to the Lord:

33 “Chuala sibh freisin go ndúradh leis na sinsir: ‘Ná sáraigh do mhionn; déan do mhionna a chomhlíonadh don Tiarna.’

34 But I say to you, Take no oaths at all: not by the heaven, because it is the seat of God;

34 Mais moi, je vous dis de ne jurer aucunement, ni par le ciel, parce que c'est le trône de Dieu;

34 Ach is é a deirimse libh, gan mionn ar bith a thabhairt: gan a thabhairt dar neamh, óir is é ríchathaoir Dé é;

34 Mas yo os digo: No juréis en ninguna manera: ni por el cielo, porque es el trono de Dios;

35 Or by the earth, because it is the resting-place for his foot; or by Jerusalem, because it is the town of the great King.

35 ná dar an talamh, óir is é stól a chos é; ná dar Iarúsailéim, óir is í cathair an Rí mhóir í;

36 You may not take an oath by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black.

36 ná mionnaigh dar do cheann ach chomh beag, mar ní féidir duit aon ribe amháin de a dhéanamh geal ná dubh.

37 But let your words be simply, Yes or No: and whatever is more than these is of the Evil One.

37 Is é amháin is ráite daoibh: ‘Is ea, is ea.’ ‘Ní hea, ní hea.’ Focal thar an méid sin, is ón Olc é!

37 Eure Rede aber sei: Ja, ja; nein, nein. Was darüber ist, das ist vom Übel.

38 You have knowledge that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

38 “Chuala sibh go ndúradh: ‘Súil ar shúil, fiacail ar fhiacail.’

39 But I say to you, Do not make use of force against an evil man; but to him who gives you a blow on the right side of your face let the left be turned.

39 Ach is é a deirimse libh gan seasamh in aghaidh an drochdhuine: ina ionad sin, an té a thugann buille sa leiceann dheas duit, iompaigh chuige an leiceann eile freisin;

39 Mas yo os digo: No resistáis al mal; antes á cualquiera que te hiriere en tu mejilla diestra, vuélvele también la otra;

40 And if any man goes to law with you and takes away your coat, do not keep back your robe from him.

40 Si quelqu'un veut plaider contre toi, et prendre ta tunique, laisse-lui encore ton manteau.

40 agus an té a chuirfeadh an dlí ort chun do léine a bhreith uait, scaoil leis do bhrat chomh maith.

40 Y al que quisiere ponerte á pleito y tomarte tu ropa, déjale también la capa;

41 And whoever makes you go one mile, go with him two.

41 An té a chuireann d'fhiacha ort dul aon mhíle amháin leis, gabh leis an dá mhíle.

42 Give to him who comes with a request, and keep not your property from him who would for a time make use of it.

42 An té a iarrann rud ort, tabhair dó é, agus an té arb áil leis iasacht uait, ná tabhair leis do chúl. Grá do Naimhde

43 You have knowledge that it was said, Have love for your neighbour, and hate for him who is against you:

43 “Chuala sibh go ndúradh: ‘Bíodh grá agat do do chomharsa agus fuath agat do do namhaid.’

44 But I say to you, Have love for those who are against you, and make prayer for those who are cruel to you;

44 Ach is é a deirimse libh, bíodh grá agaibh do bhur naimhde agus guígí ar son bhur ngéarleantóirí;

44 Mas yo os digo: Amad á vuestros enemigos, bendecid á los que os maldicen, haced bien á los que os aborrecen, y orad por los que os ultrajan y os persiguen;

45 So that you may be the sons of your Father in heaven; for his sun gives light to the evil and to the good, and he sends rain on the upright man and on the sinner.

45 sin mar a bheidh sibh in bhur gclann ag bhur nAthair atá ar neamh, a chuireann faoi deara dá ghrian éirí ar olc agus ar mhaith, agus a fhearann báisteach ar chóir agus ar mhíchóir.

46 For if you have love for those who have love for you, what credit is it to you? do not the tax-farmers the same?

46 Óir, má thugann sibh grá dóibh seo a thugann grá daoibh, cad é an tuarastal atá ag dul daoibh? Nach ndéanann na poibleacánaigh féin an rud céanna?

47 And if you say, Good day, to your brothers only, what do you do more than others? do not even the Gentiles the same?

47 Agus mura mbeannaíonn sibh ach do bhur mbráithre amháin, an ndéanann sibh aon ní thar na bearta? Nach ndéanann na págánaigh féin an rud céanna?

48 Be then complete in righteousness, even as your Father in heaven is complete.
