Matthew 1

1 Now when the birth of Jesus took place in Beth-lehem of Judaea, in the days of Herod the king, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

1 Nuair a bhí Íosa saolaithe i mBeithil Iúdáia in aimsir Héaróid rí, tháinig saoithe ón aird thoir go dtí Iarúsailéim

2 Saying, Where is the King of the Jews whose birth has now taken place? We have seen his star in the east and have come to give him worship.

2 ag fiafraí: “Cá bhfuil an leanbh seo atá saolaithe, Rí na nGiúdach? Mar chonaiceamar a réalta ag éirí, agus thángamar ag déanamh ómóis dó.”

3 And when it came to the ears of Herod the king, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

3 Nuair a chuala Héaród rí an méíd sin, bhí sé corraithe, agus Iarúsailéim go léir mar an gcéanna.

4 And he got together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, questioning them as to where the birth-place of the Christ would be.

4 Thionóil sé le chéile uachtaráin na sagart agus scríobhaithe an phobail, agus d'fhiafraigh díobh cén áit a raibh an Críost le saolú.

5 And they said to him, In Beth-lehem of Judaea; for so it is said in the writings of the prophet,

5 D'inis siad dó: “I mBeithil Iúdáia: óir sin é atá sa scríbhinn ón bhfáidh:

6 You Beth-lehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the chiefs of Judah: out of you will come a ruler, who will be the keeper of my people Israel.

6 ‘Thusa, a Bheithil, i dtalamh Iúdá, níl tú baol ar an té is lú i measc prionsaí Iúdá, óir is asat a thiocfaidh ceann urra a bheidh ina aoire ar mo phobalsa, Iosrael.’ ”

7 Then Herod sent for the wise men privately, and put questions to them about what time the star had been seen.

7 Ansin chuir Héaród fios ar na saoithe os íseal agus fuair tuairisc uathu ar an am a bhfacthas an réalta.

7 Entonces Herodes, llamando en secreto á los magos, entendió de ellos diligentemente el tiempo del aparecimiento de la estrella;

8 And he sent them to Beth-lehem and said, Go and make certain where the young child is; and when you have seen him, let me have news of it, so that I may come and give him worship.

8 Chuir sé go Beithil iad ansin agus dúirt: “Imígí agus cuirigí fiafraí ghéar ar an leanbh. Nuair a bhíonn sé faighte agaibh, cuirigí scéala chugam chun go rachainn féin ann ag déanamh ómóis dó.”

9 And after hearing the king, they went on their way; and the star which they saw in the east went before them, till it came to rest over the place where the young child was.

9 Nuair a chuala siad caint an rí, d'imigh siad leo. Agus an réalta, a bhí feicthe acu roimhe sin ag éirí, ghluais sí rompu go dtí gur stad sí os cionn na háite ina raibh an leanbh.

10 And when they saw the star they were full of joy.

10 Nuair a chonaic siad an réalta, bhí áthas an-mhór orthu.

11 And they came into the house, and saw the young child with Mary, his mother; and falling down on their faces they gave him worship; and from their store they gave him offerings of gold, perfume, and spices.

11 Agus ar dhul isteach sa teach dóibh, chonaic siad an leanbh le Muire a mháthair, agus d'umhlaigh siad go talamh ag déanamh ómóis dó. Agus d'oscail siad a gcistí agus d'ofráil siad tabhartais dó, ór agus túis agus miorra.

12 And it was made clear to them by God in a dream that they were not to go back to Herod; so they went into their country by another way.

12 Agus ó fuair siad foilsiú i mbrionglóid gan dul ar ais go dtí Héaród, ghabh siad bóthar eile abhaile chun a dtíre féin. An Teitheadh don Éigipt -- Marú na Neamhchiontach

13 And when they had gone, an angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream, saying, Get up and take the young child and his mother, and go into Egypt, and do not go from there till I give you word; for Herod will be searching for the young child to put him to death.

13 Nuair a bhí siad imithe, thaispeáin aingeal ón Tiarna é féin i mbrionglóid do Iósaef agus dúirt: “Éirigh i do shuí, beir leat an leanbh agus a mháthair, agus teith don Éigipt, agus fan ann go n‑insí mé duit, mar beidh Héaród ar thóir an linbh chun a mharaithe.”

14 So he took the young child and his mother by night, and went into Egypt;

14 Dhúisigh Iósaef agus d'éirigh, rug leis an leanbh agus a mháthair san oíche agus chuaigh don Éigipt,

14 Y él despertando, tomó al niño y á su madre de noche, y se fué á Egipto;

15 And was there till the death of Herod; so that the word of the Lord through the prophet might come true, Out of Egypt have I sent for my son.

15 agus is ann a bhí sé go bhfuair Héaród bás: chun go gcomhlíonfaí a ndúirt an Tiarna tríd an bhfáidh: “As an Éigipt a ghlaoigh mé mo Mhac.”

16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, was very angry; and he sent out, and put to death all the male children in Beth-lehem and in all the parts round about it, from two years old and under, acting on the knowledge which he had got with care from the wise men.

16 Ansin, nuair a chonaic Héaród go raibh na saoithe tar éis cleas a imirt air, tháinig fearg mhór air, agus chuir sé ordú amach na páistí uile a mharú i mBeithil agus sa chomharsanacht a bhí dhá bhliain nó níos lú, de réir tuairisc an ama a fuair sé ó na saoithe.

17 Then the word of Jeremiah the prophet came true,

17 An uair sin a comhlíonadh a ndúradh trí Irimia fáidh:

18 In Ramah there was a sound of weeping and great sorrow, Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be comforted for their loss.

18 “Chualathas glór i Rámá caoi agus iomad olagóin: Rachael ag caoineadh a clainne, agus nárbh áil léi sólás a ghlacadh mar nach bhfuil siad ann níos mó.” Filleadh go Nazarat

19 But when Herod was dead, an angel of the Lord came in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

19 Nuair a fuair Héaród bás, thaispeáin aingeal ón Tiarna é féin i mbrionglóid do Iósaef san Éigipt

20 Saying, Get up and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: because they who were attempting to take the young child's life are dead.

20 agus dúirt: “Éirigh i do shuí, beir leat an leanbh agus a mháthair agus imigh go tír Iosrael, óir, an dream a bhí ar thóir anam an linbh, tá siad marbh.”

21 And he got up, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

21 Dhúisigh Iósaef agus d'éirigh, rug leis an leanbh agus a mháthair agus chuaigh go tír Iosrael.

22 But when it came to his ears that Archelaus was ruling over Judaea in the place of his father Herod, he was in fear of going there; and God having given him news of the danger in a dream, he went out of the way into the country parts of Galilee.

22 Chuala sé, áfach, go raibh Archalás ina rí ar Iúdáia in áit Héaróid a athair, agus bhí eagla air dul ann, ach tar éis dó foilsiú a fháil i mbrionglóid, chuaigh sé go dtí ceantar na Gailíle

23 And he came and was living in a town named Nazareth: so that the word of the prophets might come true, He will be named a Nazarene.

23 agus chuir faoi i mbaile ar a dtugtar Nazarat; chun go gcomhlíonfaí a ndúradh trí na fáithe: “Tabharfar Nazórach air.”
