Zephaniah 3

1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, ruler of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

1 Sa dara bliain de réimeas Dháire rí, ar an gcéad lá den séú mi, labhraíodh briathar an Tiarna trí bhíthin an fháidh Hagaí le Zarubáibil, mac Sheailtíéil, gobharnóir Iúdá agus leis an ardsagart Iósua, mac Iózádác, mar a leanas:

2 These are the words of the Lord of armies: These people say, The time has not come for building the Lord's house.

2 Mar seo a labhraíonn Tiarna na Slua: “Deir an pobal seo: Níor tháinig an t‑am fós chun Teampall an Tiarna a tógáil.”

3 Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

3 Ansin labhraíodh briathar an Tiarna trí bhíthin an fháidh Hagaí mar a leanas:

4 Is it a time for you to be living in roofed houses while this house is a waste?

4 “An mithid daoibhse mar sin cónaí in bhur dtithe painéalta agus an teach seo ina fhothrach?”

5 For this cause the Lord of armies has said, Give thought to your ways.

6 Much has been planted, but little got in; you take food, but have not enough; you take drink, but are not full; you are clothed, but no one is warm; and he who gets payment for his work, gets it to put it into a bag full of holes.

6 Chuir sibh mórán ach níor bhain sibh ach an beagán; itheann sibh ach ní bhfaigheann aon duine agaibh a sháith; ólann sibh ach ní mhúchtar bhur dtart; cuireann sibh éadach oraibh féin ach ní bhíonn aon duine agaibh te teolaí; an té a thuilleann tuarastal is lena a chur i sparán pollta a thuilleann sé é.”

7 This is what the Lord of armies has said: Give thought to your ways.

7 Mar seo a labhraíonn Tiarna na Slua: “Déanaigí machnamh ar conas mar a d'éirigh libh.

8 Go up to the hills and get wood and put up the house; and I will take pleasure in it and be honoured, says the Lord.

8 In airde libh ar na cnoic! Beirigí adhmad libh ar ais! Atógaigí an Teampall! Bainfidh mé taitneamh as ansin agus taispeánfaidh mé mo ghlóir ann, a deir an Tiarna.

9 You were looking for much, and it came to little; and when you got it into your house, I took it away with a breath. Why? says the Lord of armies. Because of my house which is a waste, while every man takes care of the house which is his.

9 Bhí sibh ag súil le mórán, ach is amhlaidh nach bhfuair sibh ach an beagán; nuair a thug sibh an fómhar isteach shéid mise air. Cén fáth sin, a deir Tiarna na Slua? De bhrí go bhfuil mo theachsa ina fhothrach fad a bhíonn gach uile dhuine agaibhse ag déanamh cúraim dá theach féin.

10 For this cause the heaven over you is kept from giving dew, and the earth from giving her fruit.

10 Sin é an fáth a gcoinníonn na spéartha thuas an drúcht uaibh agus a gceileann an talamh a chuid torthaí oraibh.

11 And by my order no rain came on the land or on the mountains or the grain or the wine or the oil or the produce of the earth or on men or cattle or on any work of man's hands.

11 Táim tar éis triomach a ghlaoch anuas ar an talamh, ar na cnoic, ar an arbhar, ar an úrfhíon, ar an ola, ar thorthaí uile na talún, ar na daoine agus ar na beithígh agus ar a saothar go léir!”

12 Then Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all the rest of the people, gave ear to the voice of the Lord their God and to the words of Haggai the prophet, because the Lord their God had sent him, and the people were in fear before the Lord.

12 Ansin d'éist Zarubáibil, mac Sheailtíéil, agus an t‑ardsagart Iósua, mac Iózádác, agus fuílleach uile an phobail le hachainí an Tiarna, a nDia, agus le briathra an fháidh Hagaí de bhrí gur chuir an Tiarna chucu é agus go raibh eagla ar an bpobal roimh an Tiarna.

13 Then Haggai, whom the Lord had sent to give his words to the people, said, I am with you, says the Lord.

13 Ansin labhair Hagaí, teachtaire an Tiarna, leis an bpobal de réir ordú an Tiarna, á rá: “Táimse in bhur dteannta, a deir an Tiarna.”

14 And the spirit of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, ruler of Judah, was moved by the Lord, as was the spirit of Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the rest of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of armies, their God.

14 Agus mhúscail an Tiarna misneach Zarubáibil mhic Sheailtíéil, gobharnóir Iúdá, agus misneach an ardsagairt Iósua, mhic Iózádác, agus misneach fhuílleach an phobail sa chaoi gur tháinig siad agus gur chuir siad chun oibre i dteach Thiarna na Slua, a nDia,

15 On the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

15 ar an gceathrú lá is fiche den séú mí. Glóir an Teampaill Nua Sa dara bliain de réimeas Dháire rí,
