Amos 4

1 Give ear to this word, my song of sorrow over you, O children of Israel.

1 Éist leis an oracal seo a fhógraím i d'aghaidh; is caoineadh é, a theach Iosrael:

2 The virgin of Israel has been made low, never again to be lifted up: she is stretched out by herself on her land; there is no one to put her on her feet again.

3 For these are the words of the Lord God: The town which was able to send out a thousand, will have only a hundred; and that which sent out a hundred, will have only ten, in Israel.

3 Óir is mar seo a deir an Tiarna Dia le teach Iosrael: An chathair a raibh míle saighdiúir aici ní fhágfar ach céad aici; agus an chathair a raibh céad aici ní fhágfar aici ach deichniúr.

4 For these are the words of the Lord to the children of Israel: Let your hearts be turned to me, so that you may have life:

4 Óir is mar seo a deir an Tiarna Dia le teach Iosrael: Gabh ar mo lorgsa agus mairfidh tú;

4 Empero así dice Jehová á la casa de Israel: Buscadme, y viviréis;

5 Do not be looking for help to Beth-el, and do not go to Gilgal, or make your way to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal will certainly be taken prisoner, and Beth-el will come to nothing.

5 ach ná gabh go Béit Éil, agus ná téigh isteach go Gilgeál ná anonn go Béar Seaba; mar is cinnte go rachaidh Gilgeál ar deoraíocht agus go gcuirfear Béit Éil ar neamhní.

6 Go to the Lord for help so that you may have life; for fear that he may come like fire bursting out in the family of Joseph, causing destruction, and there will be no one to put it out in Beth-el.

6 Gabh ar lorg an Tiarna agus mairfidh tú; ar eagla go dtiocfadh sé ar theach Iósaef mar chaor thine agus go n‑alpfadh sí é agus nach mbeadh aon duine ann chun í a mhúchadh ar son theach Iosrael.

6 Suchet den HERRN, so werdet ihr leben! daß nicht ein Feuer im Hause Joseph überhand nehme, das da verzehre und das niemand löschen könne zu Beth-El;

7 You who make the work of judging a bitter thing, crushing down righteousness to the earth;

7 [Is mairg] dóibh siúd a dhéanann mormónta as an bhfíréantacht a chaitheann an ceart uathu ar lár;

8 Go for help to him who makes Orion and the Pleiades, by whom the deep dark is turned into morning, who makes the day black with night; whose voice goes out to the waters of the sea, sending them out over the face of the earth: the Lord is his name;

8 Ba é a rinne an Phléadach agus Óiríon, a dhéanann solas de dhuibhe na hoíche agus a dhorchaíonn arís an lá, a ghaireann ar uiscí na farraige agus a dhoirteann amach iad ar dhromchla na talún; an Tiarna is ainm dó.

8 Er machte die Plejaden und den Orion; der aus der Finsternis den Morgen und aus dem Tag die finstere Nacht macht; der dem Wasser im Meer ruft und schüttet es auf den Erdboden: er heißt HERR;

9 Who sends sudden destruction on the strong, so that destruction comes on the walled town.

9 Teilgeann sé léirscrios ar an dún, sa chruth go gcreachtar an daingean,

10 They have hate for him who makes protest against evil in the public place, and he whose words are upright is disgusting to them.

10 ar fuath leo an fear a chuireann ceart dlí i bhfeidhm ag an ngeata agus ar gráin leo an té a insíonn an fhírinne.

11 So because the poor man is crushed under your feet, and you take taxes from him of grain: you have made for yourselves houses of cut stone, but you will not take your rest in them; the fair vine-gardens planted by your hands will not give you wine.

11 Ar an ábhar sin, de bhrí go satlaíonn sibh ar an mbochtán, agus go gcuireann sibh ainchíos cruithneachta air, na tithe sin a thóg sibh le clocha snoite ní chónóidh sibh iontu; na fíonghoirt thaitneamhacha a chuir sibh ní ólfaidh sibh a bhfíon.

12 For I have seen how your evil-doing is increased and how strong are your sins, you troublers of the upright, who take rewards and do wrong to the cause of the poor in the public place.

12 Óir is eol domsa iomad bhur gcionta agus méid bhur bpeacaí; sibhse a chiapann na fíréin, a ghlacann an bhreab, a chaitheann an dearóil ar leataobh sa gheata.

13 So the wise will say nothing in that time; for it is an evil time.

13 Ní aon ionadh go bhfanann an fear críonna ina thost ar uair mar seo; mar is olc an uair atá ann.

14 Go after good and not evil, so that life may be yours: and so the Lord, the God of armies, will be with you, as you say.

14 Iarraigí an mhaith in áit an oilc, ionas go mairfidh sibh, agus go mbeidh an Tiarna, Dia na Slua, libh dáiríre mar a mhaíonn sibh atá sé.

15 Be haters of evil and lovers of good, and let right be done in the public place: it may be that the Lord, the God of armies, will have mercy on the rest of Joseph.

15 Bíodh fuath agaibh don olc agus grá don mhaith; cuirigí an ceart i bhfeidhm sa gheata; agus b'fhéidir go nglacfaidh an Tiarna, Dia na Slua, trua ar iarmhar Iósaef.

16 So these are the words of the Lord, the God of armies, the Lord: There will be weeping in all the open spaces; and in all the streets they will say, Sorrow! sorrow! and they will get in the farmer to the weeping, and the makers of sad songs to give cries of grief.

16 Dá bhrí sin is mar seo a deir an Tiarna, Dia na Slua, an Tiarna: Beidh caoineadh i ngach cearnóg baile agus mairgneach i ngach sráid: “Ochón, ochón.” Glaofaidh siad na feirmeoirí chun mairgní agus an t‑aos caointe chun olagóin,

17 In all the vine-gardens there will be cries of grief: for I will go through among you, says the Lord.

17 agus beidh caoineadh sna fíonghoirt go léir, óir rachaidh mise thart in bhur measc, a deir an Tiarna.

18 Sorrow to you who are looking for the day of the Lord! what is the day of the Lord to you? it is dark and not light.

18 Is mairg daoibh atá ag tnúth le lá an Tiarna. Cad é lá an Tiarna daoibh? Is dorchadas é agus ní solas;

Was soll er euch? Denn des HERRN Tag ist Finsternis und nicht Licht.

19 As if a man, running away from a lion, came face to face with a bear; or went into the house and put his hand on the wall and got a bite from a snake.

19 mar dhuine a d'éalódh ó leon ach gur bhuail béar leis; nó mar dhuine a rachadh isteach ina theach agus a leagfadh a lámh ar an mballa ach gur rug nathair nimhe air.

20 Will not the day of the Lord be dark and not light? even very dark, with no light shining in it?

20 Nach dorchadas é lá an Tiarna agus ní solas, nach duibheagán é gan dealán ar bith ann?

21 Your feasts are disgusting to me, I will have nothing to do with them; I will take no delight in your holy meetings.

21 Is fuath liom agus is beag orm bhur bhféilte; ní bhainim aon sult as bhur gcomhthionóil shollúnta.

21 Aborrecí, abominé vuestras solemnidades, y no me darán buen olor vuestras asambleas.

22 Even if you give me your burned offerings and your meal offerings, I will not take pleasure in them: I will have nothing to do with the peace-offerings of your fat beasts.

22 Bíodh go n‑ofrálann sibh bhur n‑íobairtí dóite agus bhur n‑íobairtí bia, ní ghlacfaidh mé leo; agus diúltóidh mé d'íobairtí síochána bhur mbeithíoch méith.

23 Take away from me the noise of your songs; my ears are shut to the melody of your instruments.

24 But let the right go rolling on like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

24 Ach go rithe an fhíréantacht mar uisce agus an t‑ionracas mar shruth gan dísc!

25 Did you come to me with offerings of beasts and meal offerings in the waste land for forty years, O Israel?

25 Ar thairg sibh íobairtí agus ofrálacha dom ar feadh an daichead bliain san fhásach, a theach Iosrael?

26 Truly, you will take up Saccuth your king and Kaiwan your images, the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.

26 Ach anois ní miste libh Sacút bhur rí, agus Cíován bhur ndia a iompar, íomhánna a rinne sibh daoibh féin.

27 And I will send you away as prisoners farther than Damascus, says the Lord, whose name is the God of armies.

27 Uime sin seolfaidh mé ar deoraíocht sibh taobh thall den Damaisc, a deir an Tiarna, arb ainm dó Dia na Slua.
