Jeremiah 12

1 This is what the Lord said to me: Go and get yourself a linen band and put it round you and do not put it in water.

1 Dúirt an Tiarna é seo liom: “Imigh agus ceannaigh duit féin crios línéadaigh agus cuir faoi do chom é. Ach ná tum in uisce é.”

2 So, as the Lord said, I got a band for a price and put it round my body.

2 Cheannaigh mé crios ansin mar a d'ordaigh an Tiarna dom agus chuir faoi mo chom é.

3 And the word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying,

3 Tháinig briathar an Tiarna chugam an dara huair:

4 Take the band which you got for a price, which is round your body, and go to Parah and put it in a secret place there in a hole of the rock.

4 “Tóg an crios a cheannaigh tú agus atá faoi do chom; éirigh agus imigh leat go dtí an Eofrataes agus folaigh ansin é i bpoll sa charraig.”

5 So I went and put it in a secret place by Parah, as the Lord had said to me.

5 D'imigh mé mar sin agus d'fholaigh mé ag an Eofrataes é mar a d'ordaigh an Tiarna dom.

6 Then after a long time, the Lord said to me, Up! go to Parah and get the band which I gave you orders to put there.

6 Tar éis mórán laethanta dúirt an Tiarna liom: “Éirigh agus imigh leat go dtí an Eofrataes agus tóg as sin an crios a d'ordaigh mé duit a fholach ann.”

7 So I went to Parah and, uncovering the hole, took the band from the place where I had put it away: and the band was damaged and of no use for anything.

7 D'imigh mé ansin go dtí an Eofrataes, thochail mé agus thóg an crios as an áit ar fholaigh mé é. Bhí an crios millte, gan mhaith.

8 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

8 Ansin tháinig briathar an Tiarna chugam:

9 The Lord has said, In this way I will do damage to the pride of Judah and to the great pride of Jerusalem.

9 “Is mar seo a deir an Tiarna: ‘Sa chaoi chéanna millfidh mé uabhar Iúdá agus Iarúsailéim.

9 So spricht der HERR: Eben also will ich auch verderben die große Hoffart Juda's und Jerusalems.

10 These evil people who say they will not give ear to my words, who go on in the pride of their hearts and have become servants and worshippers of other gods, will become like this band which is of no use for anything.

10 An pobal dona seo a dhiúltaíonn mo bhriathar a éisteacht, a imíonn de réir comhairle a gcruachroí féin, a chuaigh i ndiaidh déithe eile, a dhéanamh freastail orthu agus á n‑adhradh, bídís ar nós an chreasa seo, gan mhaith.

11 For as a band goes tightly round a man's body, so I made all the people of Israel and all the people of Judah tightly united to me; so that they might be a people for me and a name and a praise and a glory: but they would not give ear.

11 Óir díreach mar a theannann an crios le com duine, is mar sin ba rún domsa teach Iúdá uile a theannadh liomsa - an Tiarna a labhraíonn - go mbeidís ina bpobal agam, ina nglóir, ina n‑onóir, ina moladh agam.

12 So you are to say this word to them: This is the word of the Lord, the God of Israel: Every skin bottle will be full of wine; and they will say to you, Is it not quite clear to us that every skin bottle will be full of wine?

12 “Abair leis an bpobal seo: ‘Is féidir aon chrúsca a líonadh le fíon.’ Agus má fhreagraíonn siad thú: ‘Nach fios dúinne go deimhin gur féidir aon chrúsca a líonadh le fíon?’

13 Then you are to say to them, The Lord has said, I will make all the people of this land, even the kings seated on David's seat, and the priests and the prophets and all the people of Jerusalem, overcome with strong drink.

13 séard a déarfaidh tusa leo: ‘Is mar seo a deir an Tiarna: Líonfaidh mé anois áitritheoirí uile na tíre seo le meisce, na ríthe a shuíonn i ríchathaoir Dháiví, na sagairt agus na fáithe, agus muintir uile Iarúsailéim.

13 Entonces les has de decir: Así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí que yo lleno de embriaguez todos los moradores de esta tierra, y á los reyes de la estirpe de David que se sientan sobre su trono, y á los sacerdotes y profetas, y á todos los moradores de Jerusalem;

13 So sprich zu ihnen: So spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich will alle, die in diesem Lande wohnen, die Könige, die auf dem Stuhl Davids sitzen, die Priester und Propheten und alle Einwohner zu Jerusalem füllen, daß sie trunken werden sollen;

14 I will have them smashed against one another, fathers and sons together, says the Lord: I will have no pity or mercy, I will have no feeling for them to keep me from giving them to destruction.

14 Déanfaidh mé iad a ghreadadh in aghaidh a chéile, athair agus mac in éineacht - an Tiarna a labhraíonn.

15 Give ear and let your ears be open; be not lifted up: for these are the words of the Lord.

15 Écoutez et prêtez l'oreille! Ne soyez point orgueilleux! Car l'Éternel parle.

15 Éistigí, tugaigí cluas, ná bígí uaibhreach tá an Tiarna ag labhairt.

15 Escuchad y oid; no os elevéis: pues Jehová ha hablado.

16 Give glory to the Lord your God, before he makes it dark, and before your feet are slipping on the dark mountains, and, while you are looking for a light, he makes it into deep dark, into black night.

17 But if you do not give ear to it, my soul will be weeping in secret for your pride; my eye will be weeping bitterly, streaming with water, because the Lord's flock has been taken away as prisoners.

17 Mura n‑éisteann sibh leis an rabhadh seo, caoinfidh mé go haonraic bhur n‑uabhar, líonfaidh mo shúile le deora, mar go bhfuil tréad an Tiarna á dtabhairt i mbraighdeanas.

18 Say to the king and to the queen-mother, Make yourselves low, be seated on the earth: for the crown of your glory has come down from your heads.

18 Abair leis an rí agus leis an ríonmháthair: “Suígí in áit níos ísle, mar gur thit anuas díbh coróin bhur nglóire.”

19 The towns of the south are shut up, and there is no one to make them open: Judah is taken away as prisoners; all Judah is taken away as prisoners.

19 Tá bailte an Neigib druidte suas, gan tarrtháil i ndán dóibh ó aon duine. Rugadh Iúdá uile ar shiúl, tógadh gach aon duine i mbraighdeanas.

20 Let your eyes be lifted up (O Jerusalem), and see those who are coming from the north. Where is the flock which was given to you, your beautiful flock?

20 “Ardaigh do shúile, a Iarúsailéim, agus féach an dream atá ag teacht anois as an tuaisceart. Cá bhfuil an tréad a tugadh duitse uair ar iontaoibh, an tréad as a ndéanfá mórtas?

21 What will you say when he puts over you those whom you yourself have made your friends? will not pains take you like a woman in childbirth?

21 Céard a déarfaidh tú nuair a thiocfaidh siad anuas ort mar bhuaiteoirí, an dream a mhúin tú féin a bheith mar chairde agat? Nach mbéarfaidh doilíos ort fearacht mná i dtinneas clainne?

22 And if you say in your heart, Why have these things come on me? because of the number of your sins, your skirts have been uncovered and violent punishment overtakes you.

22 Má deir tú leat féin i do chroí: ‘Cad chuige ar éirigh na nithe seo domsa?’ Is mar gheall ar mhéid d'oilc a ardaíodh do chótaí agus a tugadh ainíde duit.

23 Is it possible for the skin of the Ethiopian to be changed, or the markings on the leopard? Then it might be possible for you to do good, who have been trained to do evil.

23 An bhféadann an tAetópach a chraiceann a mhalairt nó an liopard a bhreacadh? Agus tusa, an bhféadann tú maith a dhéanamh, tusa a ghnáthaíonn déanamh an oilc?

24 So I will send them in all directions, as dry grass is taken away by the wind of the waste land.

24 Scaoilfidh mé ó chéile thú ar nós cátha a imíonn le gaoth an fhásaigh.

25 This is your fate, the part measured out to you by me, says the Lord, because you have put me out of your memory and put your faith in what is false.

25 Voilà ton sort, la part que je te mesure, Dit l'Éternel, Parce que tu m'as oublié, Et que tu as mis ta confiance dans le mensonge.

25 Seo é cuid do thomhais, do thuarastal uaimse in íoc do shéanta - an Tiarna a labhraíonn - mar gur lig tú mise i ndearmad agus gur thaobhaigh tú le bréag.

26 So I will have your skirts uncovered before your face, in order that your shame may be seen.

26 Je relèverai tes pans jusque sur ton visage, Afin qu'on voie ta honte.

26 Ligfidh mise do chótaí aníos le d'aghaidh, le go mba léir do náire,

27 I have seen your disgusting acts, even your false behaviour and your cries of desire and your loose ways on the hills in the field. Unhappy are you, O Jerusalem, you have no desire to be made clean; how long will you be in turning back to me?

27 d'adhaltranais, do ghártha macnasa, gráin do striapachais! Ar na cnoic faoin tuaith chonaic mé do nithe gránna. Mairg duit, a Iarúsailéim, atá go fóill neamhghlan!

Weh dir, Jerusalem! Wann wirst du doch endlich rein werden?
