Isaiah 36

1 And on hearing it Hezekiah took off his robe and put on haircloth and went into the house of the Lord.

1 Ar a chlos sin dó, stróic an rí Hiziciá a chuid éadaigh, chuir éadach róin air féin agus chuaigh isteach i dTeampall an Tiarna.

2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the chief priests, dressed in haircloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz.

2 Chuir sé reachtaire an pháláis Eiliácaím, Seabná rúnaí agus seanóirí na sagart, iad go léir gléasta in éadach róin, go dtí an fáidh Íseáia mac Ámóz.

3 And they said to him, Hezekiah says, This day is a day of trouble and punishment and shame: for the children are ready to come to birth, but there is no strength to give birth to them.

3 Dúirt siad leis: “Seo teachtaireacht ó Hiziciá: Lá anbhuaine is ea é seo, lá aithise agus náire. Tá na leanaí i mbéal a mbreithe agus níl an neart ann lena saolú.

4 It may be that the Lord your God will give ear to the words of the Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria, his master, has sent to say evil things against the living God, and will make his words come to nothing: so make your prayer for the rest of the people.

4 Éisteadh an Tiarna do Dhia le focail an Ardoifigigh a chuir rí na hAsaíre uaidh chun an Dia beo a mhaslú, agus baineadh sé éiric amach sna focail a chuala sé! Cuir suas paidir ar son an fhuíll atá fágtha.”

5 So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

5 Nuair a bhí airí an rí Hiziciá tagtha i láthair Íseáia,

6 And Isaiah said to them, This is what you are to say to your master: The Lord says, Be not troubled by the words which the servants of the king of Assyria have said against me in your hearing.

6 dúirt seisean leo: “Déarfaidh sibh le bhur máistir: Seo é briathar an Tiarna: Ná bíodh eagla ort tar éis a bhfuil cloiste agat nuair a bhí giollaí rí na hAsaíre ag caitheamh masla liom.

7 See, I will put a spirit into him, and bad news will come to his ears, and he will go back to his land; and there I will have him put to death.

7 Tá mé chun spiorad a chur ann agus cloisfidh sé scéala a thabharfaidh ar ais chuig a thír féin é; cuirfidh mé faoi deara go dtitfidh sé leis an gclaíomh ansin. An tArdoifigeach ar ais Arís

7 Siehe, ich will ihm einen anderen Mut machen, und er soll etwas hören, daß er wieder heimziehe in sein Land; und will ihn durchs Schwert fällen in seinem Lande.

8 So the Rab-shakeh went back, and when he got there the king of Assyria was making war against Libnah: for it had come to his ears that the king of Assyria had gone away from Lachish.

8 D'imigh an tArdoifigeach leis ar ais agus fuair sé rí na hAsaíre ag déanamh ionsaí ar Libneá, mar bhí cloiste aige go raibh sé tar éis Láicis a fhagáil.

9 And when news came to him that Tirhakah, king of Ethiopia, had made an attack on him, ... And he sent representatives to Hezekiah, king of Judah, saying,

9 Ach nuair a fuair Sanaichéiríb scéala go raibh Tiorhácá, rí Chúis, ar a bhealach chun cath a chur air, chuir sé teachtairí ionsar Hiziciá an dara huair lena rá leis:

10 This is what you are to say to Hezekiah, king of Judah: Let not your God, in whom is your faith, give you a false hope, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hands of the king of Assyria.

10 “Seo mar a labhróidh sibh le Hiziciá, rí Iúdá: An Dia seo agat a bhfuil do mhuinín ann, ná cuireadh sé amú thú lena gheallúint nach dtabharfar Iarúsailéim isteach i lámha rí na hAsaíre.

11 No doubt the story has come to your ears of what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, putting them to the curse: and will you be kept safe from their fate?

11 Chuala tú cinnte a bhfuil déanta ag ríthe na hAsaíre ar na tíortha go léir, á dtabhairt suas don léirscrios, agus an dóigh leat go dtiocfaidh tusa slán?

12 Did the gods of the nations keep safe those on whom my fathers sent destruction, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?

12 Ar fhéad a gcuid déithe na náisiúin a chreach mo shinsir a tharrtháil - Gózán, Hárán, Reizif, agus muintir Éidin a bhí i dTeil [Básár]?

13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the town of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivva?

13 Cá bhfuil siad, na ríthe a bhí ar Hamát, Arpád, Safarvaím, agus ar Haena agus Íveá?”

14 And Hezekiah took the letter from the hands of those who had come with it; and after reading it, Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord, opening the letter there before the Lord,

14 Thóg Hiziciá an litir ó lámha na dteachtairí agus léigh í. Ansin chuaigh sé suas go Teampall an Tiarna agus spréigh sé amach os comhair an Tiarna í.

15 And he made prayer to the Lord, saying,

15 à qui il adressa cette prière:

15 Agus chuir Hiziciá suas an phaidir seo i láthair an Tiarna:

15 Entonces Ezechîas oró á Jehová, diciendo:

15 Und Hiskia betete zum HERR und sprach:

16 O Lord of armies, the God of Israel, seated between the winged ones, you only are the God of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth.

16 “A Thiarna na Slua, a Dhia Iosrael, atá anseo i do shuí ríoga ar na ceiribíní, is tusa aon Dia ríochtaí an domhain ar fad, is tusa a rinne neamh agus talamh.

17 Let your ear be turned to us, O Lord; let your eyes be open, O Lord, and see: take note of all the words of Sennacherib who has sent men to say evil against the living God.

17 Claon do chluas chugam, a Thiarna, agus éist liom; oscail do shúile, a Thiarna, agus amharc orainn.

18 Truly, O Lord, the kings of Assyria have made waste all the nations and their lands,

18 “Tá sé fíor, a Thiarna, gur chreach ríthe na hAsaíre na náisiúin go léir agus a gcuid tailte;

19 And have given their gods to the fire: for they were no gods, but wood and stone, the work of men's hands; so they have given them to destruction.

19 chaith siad a ndéithe sa tine, óir ní déithe a bhí iontu ach saothar ó lámha daoine, adhmad agus cloch; agus ar an ábhar sin, cuireadh ar ceal iad.

20 But now, O Lord our God, give us salvation from his hand, so that it may be clear to all the kingdoms of the earth that you, and you only, are the Lord.

20 Ach anois, a Thiarna, a Dhia linn, sábháil sinn ar a neart, impím ort, agus bíodh fhios ag náisiúin uile an domhain gur tú amháin is Dia ann, a Thiarna!”

21 Then Isaiah, the son of Amoz, sent to Hezekiah, saying, The Lord, the God of Israel, says, The prayer you have made to me against Sennacherib, king of Assyria, has come to my ears.

21 Alors Ésaïe, fils d'Amots, envoya dire à Ézéchias: Ainsi parle l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël: J'ai entendu la prière que tu m'as adressée au sujet de Sanchérib, roi d'Assyrie.

21 Ansin chuir Íseáia mac Ámóz an teachtaireacht seo chuig Hiziciá: “Seo mar a deir an Tiarna, Dia Iosrael, de thairbhe na paidre a chuir tú suas chugam mar gheall ar Shanaichéiríb, rí na hAsaíre.

22 This is the word which the Lord has said about him: In the eyes of the virgin daughter of Zion you are shamed and laughed at; the daughter of Jerusalem has made sport of you.

22 Seo é an fógra a thug an Tiarna uaidh ina choinne: Caitheann sí tarcaisne, caitheann sí achasán leat, an mhaighdean, iníon Shíón; craitheann sí a ceann ar do chúla, iníon Iarúsailéim.

23 Against whom have you said evil and bitter things? and against whom has your voice been loud and your eyes lifted up? even against the Holy One of Israel.

23 Qui as-tu insulté et outragé? Contre qui as-tu élevé la voix? Tu as porté tes yeux en haut Sur le Saint d'Israël.

23 Cé dhó ar thug tú masla agus aithis? Cé ina choinne ar labhair tú in ard do chinn agus ar bhreathnaigh tú suas go sotalach? I gcoinne Neach Naofa Iosrael!

23 ¿A quién injuriaste y á quién blasfemaste?

Du hebst deine Augen empor wider den Heiligen in Israel.

24 You have sent your servants with evil words against the Lord, and have said, With all my war-carriages I have come up to the top of the mountains, to the inmost parts of Lebanon; and its tall cedars will be cut down, and the best trees of its woods: I will come up into his highest places, into his thick woods.

24 Par tes serviteurs tu as insulté le Seigneur, Et tu as dit: Avec la multitude de mes chars, J'ai gravi le sommet des montagnes, Les extrémités du Liban; Je couperai les plus élevés de ses cèdres, Les plus beaux de ses cyprès, Et j'atteindrai sa dernière cime, Sa forêt semblable à un verger;

24 Trí do ghiollaí thug tú masla don Tiarna. Ghearr mé anuas an chuid is airde dá céadrais, an chuid is áille dá cufróga. Bhain mé amach an ascaill is uaigní ann agus na cluainte i lár a cuid caschoille.

25 I have made water-holes and taken their waters, and with my foot I have made all the rivers of Egypt dry.

25 Thochail mé toibreacha agus d'ól mé uiscí na coigríche; thriomaigh mé le bonn mo choise srutháin na hÉigipte go léir.

26 Has it not come to your ears how I did it long before, purposing it in times long past? Now I have given effect to my design, so that by you strong towns might be turned into masses of broken walls.

26 An ea nár chuala tú? Fadó riamh a bhí sin leagtha amach agam; sna laethe anallód a bheartaigh mé é, anois tá sé á chur i gcrích agam. Ba é ba chinniúint duitse dúnbhailte a réabadh ina mollta conamair.

27 This is why their townsmen had no power, they were broken and put to shame; they were like the grass of the field, or a green plant; like the grass on the house-tops, which a cold wind makes waste.

27 Bhí a lucht cónaithe gan lúth na lámh, lán uafáis agus scéine, ar nós lusra na mbánta agus na scratha glasa, féar bharr na dtithe agus na ngort á sheargadh ag an gaoth anoir.

28 But I have knowledge of your getting up and your resting, of your going out and your coming in.

28 Mais je sais quand tu t'assieds, quand tu sors et quand tu entres, Et quand tu es furieux contre moi.

28 Is eol dom nuair a éiríonn tú agus nuair a shuíonn tú, nuair a ghabhann tú amach agus isteach.

28 Conocido he tu estado, tu salida y tu entrada, y tu furor contra mí.

29 Because your wrath against me and your pride have come to my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my cord in your lips, and I will make you go back by the way you came.

29 Ó tharla gur thug tú aghaidh do chraois orm agus gur tháinig do shotal fad le mo chluasa, cuirfidh mé fáinne i do shrón agus mo bhéalbhach le do bheola, agus déanfaidh mé thú a chinnireacht ar ais, siar an bealach a tháinig tú!

30 And this will be the sign to you: you will get your food this year from what comes up of itself, and in the second year from the produce of the same; and in the third year you will put in your seed, and get in the grain, and make vine-gardens, and take of their fruit.

30 Beidh sé seo ina chomhartha agat: Íosfar i mbliana grán a d'fhás ar bhranar agus an bhliain seo chugainn a bhfásann as sin arís, ach an tríú bliain, cuirigí síol agus bainigí fómhar, cuirigí fíonghoirt agus ithigí a dtoradh.

31 And those of Judah who are still living will again take root in the earth, and give fruit.

31 An fuílleach a bheidh fágtha de theaghlach Iúdá, cuirfidh sé amach fréamhacha úra thíos agus toradh ar barr.

32 For from Jerusalem those who have been kept safe will go out, and those who are still living will go out of Mount Zion: by the fixed purpose of the Lord of armies this will be done.

32 Óir as Iarúsailéim rachaidh fuíoll áir amach agus iarmhar ó shliabh Shíón. Dúthracht Thiarna na Slua a chuirfidh an méid sin i gcrích. Fáistine i dtaoibh na hAsaíre

33 For this cause the Lord says about the king of Assyria, He will not come into this town, or send an arrow against it; he will not come before it with arms, or put up an earthwork against it.

33 Mar sin, seo é briathar an Tiarna i dtaobh rí na hAsaíre: Ní thiocfaidh sé sa chathair seo isteach, saighead ní scaoilfidh sé inti, sciath ní ardóidh sé ina coinne, Ní thógfaidh sé múr léigir ina haghaidh.

33 Darum spricht der HERR also vom König von Assyrien: Er soll nicht kommen in diese Stadt und soll auch keinen Pfeil dahin schießen und mit keinem Schilde davor kommen und soll keinen Wall um sie schütten;

34 By the way he came he will go back, and he will not get into this town.

34 An bealach a tháinig sé, fillfidh sé ar ais; ní thiocfaidh sé isteach sa chathair seo - briathar an Tiarna.

35 For I will keep this town safe, for my honour, and for the honour of my servant David.

35 Déanfaidh mé an chathair a chaomhnú agus a shábháil ar mo shon féin agus ar son Dháiví, mo shearbhónta.”

36 And the angel of the Lord went out and put to death in the army of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand men: and when the people got up early in the morning, there was nothing to be seen but dead bodies.

36 An oíche chéanna sin, chuaigh aingeal an Tiarna amach agus bhuail sé céad agus a hochtó cúig míle fear i gcampa na nAsaíreach. Tráth dúiseachta ar maidin, bhí siad go léir sínte marbh.

37 Sennacherib, king of Assyria, went back to his place at Nineveh.

37 Scor Sanaichéiríb a champa ansin agus d'imigh sé abhaile go Nínivé agus chuir sé faoi ann.

38 And it came about, when he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to death with the sword, and they went in flight into the land of Ararat. And Esar-haddon, his son, became king in his place.

38 Lá amháin, agus é ag adhradh i dteampall Niosroc, an dia a bhí aige, tháinig a bheirt mhac, Adraimeilic agus Seaireizir, agus mharaigh siad é le claíomh agus d'imigh ar a seachnadh go tír Ararat.
