Isaiah 22

1 The word about Tyre. Let a cry of sorrow go up, O ships of Tarshish, because your strong place is made waste; on the way back from the land of Kittim the news is given to them.

1 Fáistine i dtaobh na Tuíre. Caoinigí, a longa Thairsís, mar tá bhur longfort scriosta. Ar a mbealach ó thír Chitím is ea chuala siad an scéala.

2 Send out a cry of grief, you men of the sea-land, traders of Zidon, who go over the sea, whose representatives are on great waters;

2 Déanaigí mairgneach, a mhuintir an chósta, a cheannaithe Shíodóine, a mbíodh bhur bhfeidhmeannaigh ag taisteal na bhfarraigí

3 Who get in the seed of Shihor, whose wealth is the trade of the nations.

Arbhar na Níle agus fómhar na hAbhann a rinne a saibhreas, agus bhíodh sí ag díol leis an domhan mór.

4 Be shamed, O Zidon: for the sea, the strong place of the sea has said, I have not been with child, or given birth; I have not taken care of young men, or kept watch over the growth of virgins.

4 Sois confuse, Sidon!

5 When the news comes to Egypt they will be bitterly pained at the fate of Tyre.

5 Nuair a gheobhaidh siad an tuairisc san Éigipt, beidh siad ar crith de bharr chinniúint na Tuíre.

6 Go over to Tarshish; give cries of sorrow, O men of the sea-land.

6 Tógaigí oraibh go Tairsís siar, a deir siad, bígí ag mairgneach, a mhuintir an chósta.

7 Is this the town which was full of joy, whose start goes back to times long past, whose wanderings took her into far-off countries?

7 An é sin bhur gcathair ghriothalánach, a bhfuil cáil uirthi ón seanam anall, a dtugadh a cosa ag taisteal i bhfad, chun cónaí a dhéanamh i gcéin?

8 By whom was this purposed against Tyre, the crowning town, whose traders are chiefs, whose business men are honoured in the land?

8 Cé a cheap an beart seo i gcoinne Tuír na gcoróineacha, a mbíodh a ceannaithe ina bprionsaí, agus a trádálaithe ar mhóruaisle na talún?

9 It was the purpose of the Lord of armies to put pride to shame, to make sport of the glory of those who are honoured in the earth.

9 Is é Tiarna na Slua a bheartaigh, chun díomas a scéimhe a ísliú, chun toicithe na talún a chaitheamh síos.

10 Let your land be worked with the plough, O daughter of Tarshish; there is no longer any harbour.

10 Téigí le talmhaíocht, a mhuintir Thairsís, níl an calafort ann níos mó!

11 His hand is stretched out over the sea, the kingdoms are shaking: the Lord has given orders about Canaan, to make waste its strong places.

11 Shín an Tiarna amach a lámh os cionn na farraige agus chroith sé a cuid ríochtaí; thug sé an t‑ordú go scriosfaí dúnfoirt Chanán.

12 And he said, There is no more joy for you, O crushed virgin daughter of Zidon: up! go over to Kittim; even there you will have no rest.

12 Dúirt sé: “Ná bíodh lúcháir ort níos mó, a mhaighdean ar a ndearnadh éigean, a iníon Shíodóine! Dá n‑éireofá agus triall anonn go Citím; thall ansin fiú, níl scíth i ndán duit ach oiread.”

13 Féach an tír seo dár dhual longa! Thóg na Caildéigh a dtúir léigir. Leag siad a cuid daingean agus d'fhág ina ballóg í.

14 Let a cry of sorrow go up, O ships of Tarshish: because your strong place is made waste.

14 Lamentez-vous, navires de Tarsis! Car votre forteresse est détruite!

14 Caoinigí, a longa Thairsís, mar tá bhur longfort scriosta! An Tuír á cur faoi Smacht

15 And it will be in that day that Tyre will go out of mind for seventy years, that is, the days of one king: after the end of seventy years it will be for Tyre as in the song of the loose woman.

15 Tarlóidh sé an lá sin go ndéanfar dearmad ar an Tuír go cionn deich mbliana agus trí scór. Ach nuair a thiocfaidh rí eile i gcoróin, i gcionn deich mbliana agus trí scór, beidh an Tuír cosúil le striapach an amhráin:

16 Take an instrument of music, go about the town, O loose woman who has gone out from the memory of man; make sweet melody with songs, so that you may come back to men's minds.

16 Prends la harpe, parcours la ville, Prostituée qu'on oublie! Joue bien, répète tes chants, Pour qu'on se souvienne de toi! -

16 Tóg do chláirseach, déan cuairt na cathrach, a striapach bhocht thréigthe! Seinn go binn, croch suas do cheol, spreag cuimhne ort sna daoine arís!

17 And it will be after the end of seventy years, that the Lord will have mercy on Tyre, and she will go back to her trade, acting as a loose woman with all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth.

17 Mar sin i gcionn deich mbliana agus trí scór tiocfaidh an Tiarna ar a chuairt chuig an Tuír.

18 And her goods and her trade will be holy to the Lord: they will not be kept back or stored up; for her produce will be for those living in the Lord's land, to give them food for their needs, and fair clothing.

18 Ach déanfar a sochar agus a tuarastal a thiomnú don Tiarna; ní chruinneofar ná ní chuirfear i dtaisce iad. Is dóibh siúd a chaitheann a saol os comhair an Tiarna a rachaidh a sochar, chun go mbeidh a sáith le hithe acu agus éadach galánta.
