Isaiah 16

1 The word about Damascus. See, they have made Damascus a town no longer; it has become a waste place.

1 Fáistine i gcoinne na Damaisce. Tá an Damaisc chun scor mar chathair, ní bheidh ann ach carnán fothrach.

2 Her towns are unpeopled for ever; there the flocks take their rest in peace, without fear.

2 Beidh a cuid bailte tréigthe go deo, agus tréada ag iníor ina n‑áit; luífidh siad síos iontu gan duine lena ruaigeadh.

3 The strong tower has gone from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus: the rest of Aram will come to destruction, and be made like the glory of the children of Israel, says the Lord of armies.

4 And it will be in that day that the glory of Jacob will be made small, and the strength of his body will become feeble.

4 Sa lá sin beidh claochlú ar ghlóir Iacóib; beidh a shaill go trua tairteolach.

5 And it will be like a man cutting the growth of his grain, pulling together the heads of the grain with his arm; even as when they get in the grain in the valley of Rephaim.

5 Amhail nuair a tharraingíonn an buanaí gabháil den arbhar chuige, agus go mbaineann a lámh na diasa; amhail nuair a bhíonn na ceannóga á gcnuasach i ngleann Rafáím.

6 But it will be like a man shaking an olive-tree, something will still be there, two or three berries on the top of the highest branch, four or five on the outside branches of a fertile tree, says the Lord, the God of Israel.

6 Níl fágtha ach an cnuasach; amhail nuair a bhuailtear crann olóige, a dó nó a trí de chaora fágtha ar a bharr, a ceathair nó a cúig ar ghéaga an chrainn. Briathar an Tiarna, Dia Iosrael.

7 In that day a man's heart will be turned to his Maker, and his eyes to the Holy One of Israel.

7 En ce jour, l'homme regardera vers son créateur, Et ses yeux se tourneront vers le Saint d'Israël;

7 Sa lá sin breathnóidh an duine ar a Chruthaitheoir agus casfaidh a shúile i dtreo Neach Naofa Iosrael.

8 He will not be looking to the altars, the work of his hands, or to the wood pillars or to the sun-images which his fingers have made.

8 Ní bhreathnóidh sé níos mó i leith na n‑altóirí, déantús a lámh féin, ná ní amharcfaidh ar an rud a rinne a mhéara féin, na cuaillí coisricthe agus galláin na gréine. In Éadan Gairdíní Adóinis

9 In that day your towns will be like the waste places of the Hivites and the Amorites which the children of Israel took for a heritage, and they will come to destruction.

9 Sa lá sin, beidh do bhailte tréigthe mar a bhí bailte mhuintir [Amór agus Hiv,] a fágadh nuair a bhí clann Iosrael ag teacht. Díthreabh a bheidh iontu,

10 For you have not given honour to the God of your salvation, and have not kept in mind the Rock of your strength; for this cause you made a garden of Adonis, and put in it the vine-cuttings of a strange god;

10 Car tu as oublié le Dieu de ton salut, Tu ne t'es pas souvenu du rocher de ton refuge. Aussi tu as fait des plantations d'agrément, Tu as planté des ceps étrangers;

10 mar go ndearna tú dearmad ar Dhia do shlánaithe, agus nár choinnigh tú cuimhne ar Charraig do nirt. Óir plandaíonn tú plandáil in onóir d'Adóinis, cuireann tú slapair de chuid na coigríche inti;

11 In the day of your planting you were watching its growth, and in the morning your seed was flowering: but its fruit is wasted away in the day of grief and bitter sorrow.

11 an lá a gcuireann tú iad, bíonn siad ag geamhrú agat, agus le teacht na maidine bíonn bláth ar do churadóireacht; ach beidh an fómhar millte lá an léin, agus an phian gan leigheas.

12 Ah! the voice of peoples, like the loud sounding of the seas, and the thundering of great nations rushing on like the bursting out of waters!

12 Oh! quelle rumeur de peuples nombreux! Ils mugissent comme mugit la mer. Quel tumulte de nations! Elles grondent comme grondent les eaux puissantes.

12 Och: búiríl na sluaite ollmhóra, búiríl mar a bheadh búiríl na mórmhara, tuargaint na náisiún ag tuargaint mar a bheadh tuargaint an lán mara.

13 But he will put a stop to them, and make them go in flight far away, driving them like the waste of the grain on the tops of the mountains before the wind, and like the circling dust before the storm.

13 Bagraíonn sé orthu, scinneann siad i bhfad ar shiúl láithreach, á siabadh mar lochán i mbéal na gaoithe ar na harda, mar a bheadh sí gaoithe i mbéal na stoirme.

14 In the evening there is fear, and in the morning they are gone. This is the fate of those who take our goods, and the reward of those who violently take our property for themselves.

Is í seo cinniúint ár gcreachadóirí, is é is dán don dream a rinne slad orainn.
