Proverbs 21

1 A good name is more to be desired than great wealth, and to be respected is better than silver and gold.

1 Tá dea-cháil le roghnú thar bhreis maoine, agus is fearr dea-mheas ort ná airgead nó ór.

2 The man of wealth and the poor man come face to face: the Lord is the maker of them all.

2 Casann an saibhir ar an daibhir; sé an Tiarna a rinne iad go léir.

3 The sharp man sees the evil and takes cover: the simple go straight on and get into trouble.

3 Feiceann fear na céille an baol chuige agus téann i bhfolach uaidh; téann na baotháin ar aghaidh agus díolann siad as.

4 The reward of a gentle spirit and the fear of the Lord is wealth and honour and life.

4 Sé luach saothair na humhlaíochta agus eagla an Tiarna ná saibhreas, onóir agus fad saoil.

5 Thorns and nets are in the way of the twisted: he who keeps watch over his soul will be far from them.

5 Tá dealga agus gaistí ar chosán an urchóidigh; an té a thugann aire do féin, déanfaidh sé é féin a sheachaint orthu.

6 If a child is trained up in the right way, even when he is old he will not be turned away from it.

6 Déan an leanbh a oiliúint sa bhealach is dual dó; agus nuair a rachaidh sé in aois ní thréigfidh sé é.

7 The man of wealth has rule over the poor, and he who gets into debt is a servant to his creditor.

7 Bíonn an toiceach ag mursanacht ar an mbochtán, agus bíonn fear na hiasachta faoi bhois an té a thug rud dó.

8 By planting the seed of evil a man will get in the grain of sorrow, and the rod of his wrath will be broken.

8 An té a shíolann an éagóir, beidh fómhar na tubaiste aige; air féin a [thitfidh] bata a chuthaigh.

9 He who is kind will have a blessing, for he gives of his bread to the poor.

9 Tá beannacht i ndán don duine cineálta, mar roinneann sé a chuid aráin leis an mbochtán.

10 Send away the man of pride, and argument will go out; truly fighting and shame will come to an end.

10 Tabhair bata is bóthar don scigire agus baileoidh an t‑aighneas leis, agus beidh deireadh le hachrann is le hachasán.

11 He whose heart is clean is dear to the Lord; for the grace of his lips the king will be his friend.

11 Tá cion ag [an Tiarna] ar an gcroí glan, agus is cara don rí fear na cainte caoine.

12 The eyes of the Lord keep knowledge, but by him the acts of the false man will be overturned.

12 Déanann súile an Tiarna an t‑eolas a fhaire, ach leagann sé ar lár briathra na mbréagairí.

13 The hater of work says, There is a lion outside: I will be put to death in the streets.

13 “Tá leon lasmuigh,” a deir an leisceoir!

14 The mouth of strange women is a deep hole: he with whom the Lord is angry will go down into it.

14 Cuithe domhain béal mná deoranta; an té a bhfuil an Tiarna i bhfearg leis, titfidh sé inti.

15 Foolish ways are deep-seated in the heart of a child, but the rod of punishment will send them far from him.

15 Tá an bhaois ginte i gcroí an linbh; ach déanfaidh slat an smachtaithe í a dhíbirt i gcéin as.

16 He who is cruel to the poor for the purpose of increasing his profit, and he who gives to the man of wealth, will only come to be in need.

16 Luigh ar an mbochtán agus bronnfar maoin air; tabhair rud don saibhir agus déanfaidh tú é a chreachadh.

17 Let your ear be bent down for hearing my words, and let your heart give thought to knowledge.

18 For it is a delight to keep them in your heart, to have them ready on your lips.

18 Beidh sé ina shólás agat iad a choimeád i do chroí, agus iad go léir a bheith mar phionna ar do bheola.

19 So that your faith may be in the Lord, I have made them clear to you this day, even to you.

19 Tá [do chosán] á thaispeáint agam duit inniu le go mbeadh do mhuinín agat as an Tiarna.

20 Have I not put in writing for you thirty sayings, with wise suggestions and knowledge,

20 ¿No te he escrito tres veces En consejos y ciencia,

21 To make you see how certain are true words, so that you may give a true answer to those who put questions to you?

21 Le go mbeifeá in ann an fhírinne a léiriú, agus lucht do cheistithe a fhreagairt le briathra stuama?

22 Do not take away the property of the poor man because he is poor, or be cruel to the crushed ones when they come before the judge:

22 Ne dépouille pas le pauvre, parce qu'il est pauvre, Et n'opprime pas le malheureux à la porte;

22 Ná creach an bochtán mar gur bochtán é, agus ná ciap aon duine atá á bhuaireamh i ngeata na cathrach;

23 For the Lord will give support to their cause, and take the life of those who take their goods.

23 Óir déanfaidh an Tiarna a gcúis a agairt, agus ídeoidh sé lucht a n‑ídithe.

24 Do not be friends with a man who is given to wrath; do not go in the company of an angry man:

24 Ná déan muintearas leis an té atá tugtha don fhearg, agus ná bíodh caidreamh agat ar fhear drochmhianaigh,

24 No te entrometas con el iracundo, Ni te acompañes con el hombre de enojos;

24 Geselle dich nicht zum Zornigen und halte dich nicht zu einem grimmigen Mann;

25 For fear of learning his ways and making a net ready for your soul.

25 Le heagla go bhfoghlaimeofá a bhealaí, agus go mbéarfaí ort i ngaiste.

25 du möchtest seinen Weg lernen und an deiner Seele Schaden nehmen.

26 Be not one of those who give their hands in an agreement, or of those who make themselves responsible for debts:

26 Ne sois pas parmi ceux qui prennent des engagements, Parmi ceux qui cautionnent pour des dettes;

26 Ná bí ar dhuine díobh siúd a thugann gill, agus a théann in urrús le fiacha.

26 Sei nicht bei denen, die ihre Hand verhaften und für Schuld Bürge werden;

27 If you have nothing with which to make payment, he will take away your bed from under you.

27 Mura mbíonn sás d'fhuascailte agat, tógfaidh siad an leaba a bheidh fút.

28 Let not the old landmark be moved which your fathers have put in place.

28 Ná haistrigh cloch ársa theorann, a leag do shinsir ina leaba.

28 No traspases el término antiguo Que pusieron tus padres.

29 Have you seen a man who is expert in his business? he will take his place before kings; his place will not be among low persons.

29 An bhfeiceann tú duine atá oilte ar a ghnó? déanfaidh sé freastal ar ríthe; ní do shuaracháin a bheidh sé ag fónamh.
