Job 37

1 And the Lord made answer to Job out of the storm-wind, and said,

1 D'fhreagair an Tiarna Iób ansin as an anfa gaoithe agus dúirt:

2 Who is this who makes the purpose of God dark by words without knowledge?

3 Get your strength together like a man of war; I will put questions to you, and you will give me the answers.

3 Cuir do chrios faoi do choim go fearúil; Cuirfidh mise na ceisteanna anois agus tabhairse na freagraí dom!

4 Where were you when I put the earth on its base? Say, if you have knowledge.

4 Où étais-tu quand je fondais la terre? Dis-le, si tu as de l'intelligence.

4 Cá raibh tú nuair a leag mé síos máithreacha na cruinne? Inis dom é, os rud é go bhfuil tú chomh heolgaiseach!

Sage an, bist du so klug!

5 By whom were its measures fixed? Say, if you have wisdom; or by whom was the line stretched out over it?

5 Cé chinntigh a tomhais, mar is eol duit sin, ar ndóigh? Agus cé shín an dorú ar a fad?

6 On what were its pillars based, or who put down its angle-stone,

6 Cad air a bhfuil ceapa a colúin ina luí? Agus cé a chuir a cloch chúinne ina leaba,

7 When the morning stars made songs together, and all the sons of the gods gave cries of joy?

8 Or where were you when the sea came to birth, pushing out from its secret place;

8 Qui a fermé la mer avec des portes, Quand elle s'élança du sein maternel;

8 Cé a d'iaigh an mhuir isteach le comhlaí, Nuair a bhrúcht sí amach as an mbroinn?

8 ¿Quién encerró con puertas la mar, Cuando se derramaba por fuera como saliendo de madre;

9 When I made the cloud its robe, and put thick clouds as bands round it,

9 Quand je fis de la nuée son vêtement, Et de l'obscurité ses langes;

9 Nuair a chuir mé an néal mar éide uirthi, Agus an scamall dubh mar bhindealán uimpi.

10 Ordering a fixed limit for it, with locks and doors;

10 Quand je lui imposai ma loi, Et que je lui mis des barrières et des portes;

11 And said, So far you may come, and no farther; and here the pride of your waves will be stopped?

11 Agus dúirt mé: “An fad seo a thiocfaidh tú, ach gan teacht thairis seo; Anseo a theilgfear do thonnta uaibhreacha droim ar ais.”

12 Have you, from your earliest days, given orders to the morning, or made the dawn conscious of its place;

12 Ar thug tú ordú don mhaidin riamh i do shaol? Ar thaispeáin tú a háit d'fháinne an lae?

12 ¿Has tu mandado á la mañana en tus días? ¿Has mostrado al alba su lugar,

13 So that it might take a grip of the skirts of the earth, shaking all the evil-doers out of it?

13 Pour qu'elle saisisse les extrémités de la terre, Et que les méchants en soient secoués;

13 Chun go mbéarfadh sé greim ar imill an domhain Agus go ndéanfaí na héagráifigh a chroitheadh as,

14 It is changed like wet earth under a stamp, and is coloured like a robe;

14 Pour que la terre se transforme comme l'argile qui reçoit une empreinte, Et qu'elle soit parée comme d'un vêtement;

14 Agus sa chaoi go dtugtar a chruth chun léire mar a bhuailtear cló ar chré le séala, Agus go ndéantar é a dhathú mar bhrat,

15 And from the evil-doers their light is kept back, and the arm of pride is broken.

15 Agus go mbaintear a solas de na héagráifigh, Agus go mbristear an ghéag a ardaíodh chun buille a bhualadh.

16 Have you come into the springs of the sea, walking in the secret places of the deep?

16 An ndeachaigh tú síos i ndoimhne na farraige? Agus ar shiúil tú i ndiamhra an aigéin?

16 ¿Has entrado tú hasta los profundos de la mar, Y has andado escudriñando el abismo?

17 Have the doors of death been open to you, or have the door-keepers of the dark ever seen you?

17 Ar nochtadh duit doirse an éaga Nó an bhfaca tú geataí scáil an bháis?

18 Have you taken note of the wide limits of the earth? Say, if you have knowledge of it all.

Sage an, weißt du solches alles!

19 Which is the way to the resting-place of the light, and where is the store-house of the dark;

19 Cá bhfuil an tslí chun áit an tsolais? Agus dála an dorchadais, cá háit a bhfuil sé?

20 So that you might take it to its limit, guiding it to its house?

20 Nach tusa a thugann leat chun a fhearannais é? Nach agatsa atá fios na slí chun a thísean?

21 No doubt you have knowledge of it, for then you had come to birth, and the number of your days is great.

21 Is duitse is eol, ó rugadh an uair sin thú, Agus ós mór é líon do bhlianta.

22 Have you come into the secret place of snow, or have you seen the store-houses of the ice-drops,

22 Es-tu parvenu jusqu'aux amas de neige? As-tu vu les dépôts de grêle,

22 Ar ghabh tú isteach i dtaiscí an tsneachta? Nó an bhfaca tú stórais an chloch shneachta

22 ¿Has tú entrado en los tesoros de la nieve, O has visto los tesoros del granizo,

22 Bist du gewesen, da der Schnee her kommt, oder hast du gesehen, wo der Hagel her kommt,

23 Which I have kept for the time of trouble, for the day of war and fighting?

23 Atá a taisciú agam le haghaidh uain na hanacra, I gcomhair lá an chatha agus an chogaidh?

24 Which is the way to the place where the wind is measured out, and the east wind sent out over the earth?

24 Cá bhfuil an bealach go gabhal na tintrí Mar a scaipeann sí a lasair ar fud an domhain?

25 By whom has the way been cut for the flowing of the rain, and the flaming of the thunder;

26 Causing rain to come on a land where no man is living, on the waste land which has no people;

26 Pour que la pluie tombe sur une terre sans habitants, Sur un désert où il n'y a point d'hommes;

26 Le go dtitfeadh uisce ar fhearann gan áitreabh daoine, Ar an bhfásach atá gan duine ann,

27 To give water to the land where there is waste and destruction, and to make the dry land green with young grass?

27 I dtreo go sásaítear an díthreabh uaigneach, Agus go n‑eascrann an féar glas ón talamh a bhí tirim.

28 Has the rain a father? or who gave birth to the drops of night mist?

28 An bhfuil athair ag an mbáisteach? Nó cé a ghin na cruinneaga drúchta?

28 ¿Tiene la lluvia padre? ¿O quién engendró las gotas del rocío?

28 Wer ist des Regens Vater? Wer hat die Tropfen des Taues gezeugt?

29 Out of whose body came the ice? and who gave birth to the cold mist of heaven?

29 Cén bhroinn as a dtagann an leac oighir?

30 The waters are joined together, hard as a stone, and the face of the deep is covered.

30 Nuair a chruann na huiscí ina gcarraig, Agus a théachtann dromchla na bóchna?

31 Are the bands of the Pleiades fixed by you, or are the cords of Orion made loose?

31 Noues-tu les liens des Pléiades, Ou détaches-tu les cordages de l'Orion?

31 An féidir duit an Treighdín a ghléasadh ina fhearas, Nó a cuibhreach a bhaint de Shlat an Rí?

33 An eol duit reachta na spéire? An féidir duit a réim a shuíomh ar talamh?

34 Is your voice sent up to the cloud, so that you may be covered by the weight of waters?

36 Who has put wisdom in the high clouds, or given knowledge to the lights of the north?

36 Cé a chuir an eagna sna néalta, Nó a thug tuiscint do mo scamall cumhdaigh?

36 ¿Quién puso la sabiduría en el interior? ¿O quién dió al entendimiento la inteligencia?

36 Wer gibt die Weisheit in das Verborgene? Wer gibt verständige Gedanken?

37 By whose wisdom are the clouds numbered, or the water-skins of the heavens turned to the earth,

Cé a d'fhéadfadh seithí uisce na bhflaitheas a chur ar leathmhaing,

40 When they are stretched out in their holes, and are waiting in the brushwood?

Job 39
