Job 29

1 But now those who are younger than I make sport of me; those whose fathers I would not have put with the dogs of my flocks.

1 Ach is ceap magaidh mé anois Ag na sóisir, ag dream is óige ná mé féin, Nárbh fhiú liom a n‑aithreacha A chur i bhfeighil mo thréad le mo mhadraí.

1 Nun aber lachen sie mein, die jünger sind denn ich, deren Väter ich verachtet hätte, sie zu stellen unter meine Schafhunde;

2 Of what use is the strength of their hands to me? all force is gone from them.

2 deren Vermögen ich für nichts hielt; die nicht zum Alter kommen konnten;

3 They are wasted for need of food, biting the dry earth; their only hope of life is in the waste land.

3 Desséchés par la misère et la faim, Ils fuient dans les lieux arides, Depuis longtemps abandonnés et déserts;

3 Le gannchúis agus le gorta! Bhídís ag cogaint fréamha luíonna an fhásaigh,

3 die vor Hunger und Kummer einsam flohen in die Einöde, neulich verdarben und elend wurden;

4 They are pulling off the salt leaves from the brushwood, and making a meal of roots.

4 die da Nesseln ausraufen um die Büsche, und Ginsterwurzel ist ihre Speise;

5 They are sent out from among their townsmen, men are crying after them as thieves

5 Tiomáineadh ó chomhluadar daoine iad; Tógadh liú ina n‑aghaidh dála an ghadaí;

5 aus der Menschen Mitte werden sie weggetrieben, man schreit über sie wie über einen Dieb;

6 They have to get a resting-place in the hollows of the valleys, in holes of the earth and rocks.

6 Ils habitent dans d'affreuses vallées, Dans les cavernes de la terre et dans les rochers;

6 Níor mhór dóibh cur fúthu in aillteacha na ngleannta, In uaimheanna talún agus i bpluaiseanna carraige.

6 in grausigen Tälern wohnen sie, in den Löchern der Erde und Steinritzen;

7 They make noises like asses among the brushwood; they get together under the thorns.

7 Bhídís ag lógóireacht i measc na dtor, Agus ag brú ar a chéile sna neantóga.

8 They are sons of shame, and of men without a name, who have been forced out of the land.

8 Síol gan uaisleacht gan mheas, Scriosadh iad as an tír.

9 And now I have become their song, and I am a word of shame to them.

9 Sin iad an dream anois a bhfuilim mar ábhar amhrán acu! Táim i mo sceith béil acu.

10 I am disgusting to them; they keep away from me, and put marks of shame on me.

10 Tá an ghráin acu orm agus seachnaíonn siad mé. Ní scorn leo seile a chaitheamh san aghaidh orm.

11 For he has made loose the cord of my bow, and put me to shame; he has sent down my flag to the earth before me.

11 De bhrí gur bhain Dia mo chumas díom, agus gur threascair sé mé, Chaitheadar an béalbhach as a mbéal.

12 The lines of his men of war put themselves in order, and make high their ways of destruction against me:

12 Ces misérables se lèvent à ma droite et me poussent les pieds, Ils se fraient contre moi des sentiers pour ma ruine;

12 Ar dheis, tá an ghramaisc ag éirí i mo choinne, Agus ag caitheamh asachán [liom], Agus ag céimniú go bagrach i m'aghaidh.

13 They have made waste my roads, with a view to my destruction; his bowmen come round about me;

13 Ils détruisent mon propre sentier et travaillent à ma perte, Eux à qui personne ne viendrait en aide;

13 Tá bac ar mo chosáin go léir acu le mé a scrios; Ritheann leo agus níl aon duine lena gcosc.

14 As through a wide broken place in the wall they come on, I am overturned by the shock of their attack.

14 Tagann siad ar aghaidh mar a bheadh trí bhearna leathan, Agus basctar mé faoin mbruscar.

15 Fears have come on me; my hope is gone like the wind, and my well-being like a cloud.

15 Scaoileadh uafáis liom, Agus séideadh m'onóir chun siúil, mar a bheadh le gaoth, Agus d'imigh mo chonách uaim mar a bheadh néal.

16 But now my soul is turned to water in me, days of trouble overtake me:

17 The flesh is gone from my bones, and they give me no rest; there is no end to my pains.

17 La nuit me perce et m'arrache les os, La douleur qui me ronge ne se donne aucun repos,

17 Bíonn doitheacha i mo chnámha san oíche; Bíonn pianta do mo chreimeadh gan sos.

18 With great force he takes a grip of my clothing, pulling me by the neck of my coat.

19 Truly God has made me low, even to the earth, and I have become like dust.

19 Chaith sé sa dríb mé Agus is cuma mé nó lathach is luaithreach.

20 You give no answer to my cry, and take no note of my prayer.

20 Je crie vers toi, et tu ne me réponds pas; Je me tiens debout, et tu me lances ton regard.

20 Glaoim ort gan freagra a fháil; Seasaim os do chomhair, ach ní thógann tú ceann díom.

20 Clamo á ti, y no me oyes; Preséntome, y no me atiendes.

21 You have become cruel to me; the strength of your hand is hard on me.

21 D'éirigh tú cruálach ag plé liom, Agus buaileann tú mé le neart do láimhe.

22 Lifting me up, you make me go on the wings of the wind; I am broken up by the storm.

22 Ardaíonn tú ó thalamh mé le hiompar ag an ngaoth, Agus suaitheann tú mé i súil na stoirme.

23 For I am certain that you will send me back to death, and to the meeting-place ordered for all living.

23 Tá a fhios agam gur go dtí an bás atá tú do mo bhreith, Agus go teach cruinnithe na mbeo go léir.

24 Has not my hand been stretched out in help to the poor? have I not been a saviour to him in his trouble?

25 Have I not been weeping for the crushed? and was not my soul sad for him who was in need?

25 Ghoil mé go deimhin ar son lucht an tsaoil bhrónaigh, Agus chaoin mé cás an bhochtáin.

26 For I was looking for good, and evil came; I was waiting for light, and it became dark.

26 Bhí mé ag súil leis an maith, ach sé an t‑olc a tháinig. Bhí mé ag súil leis an solas, ach sé an dorchadas a thit.

27 My feelings are strongly moved, and give me no rest; days of trouble have overtaken me.

27 Tá suaitheadh ar mo chroí, gan suaimhneas air choíche, Agus é gach lá ag iompar a ualach bróin.

28 I go about in dark clothing, uncomforted; I get up in the public place, crying out for help.

28 Gabhaim timpeall go dubhach, gan [sólás ar fáil dom]. Seasaim sa chomhthionól, ach is le glaoch ar chabhair.

29 I have become a brother to the jackals, and go about in the company of ostriches.

29 Is bráthair don seacál mé, Agus comrádaí don ostrais.

30 My skin is black and dropping off me; and my bones are burning with the heat of my disease.

31 And my music has been turned to sorrow, and the sound of my pipe into the noise of weeping.

31 Tá mo chruit i dtiúin don olagón, Agus m'fheadóg do ghlór lucht an chaointe.
