Job 2

1 Then, opening his mouth, and cursing the day of his birth,

1 Faoi dheireadh d'oscail Iób a bhéal agus chuir a mhallacht ar lá a bhreithe.

2 Job made answer and said,

2 Il prit la parole et dit:

2 Seo mar a dúirt sé:

2 Y exclamó Job, y dijo:

2 Und Hiob sprach:

3 Let destruction take the day of my birth, and the night on which it was said, A man child has come into the world.

3 Scrios ar an lá a rugadh mé Agus ar an oíche a dúirt: “Gineadh mac.”

4 That day--let it be dark; let not God take note of it from on high, and let not the light be shining on it;

4 Gura dorchadas an lá sin! Nár chuire Dia in Airde aon spéis ann!

5 Let the dark and the black night take it for themselves; let it be covered with a cloud; let the dark shades of day send fear on it.

5 Gura seilbh dhílis ag gruaim agus ag scáil an bháis é! Go luí na scamaill air, Agus go scanraí urú an lae é!

6 That night--let the thick dark take it; let it not have joy among the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the months.

6 Go bhfaighe dorchadas tiubh greim ar an oíche úd, Nár [chuirtear] í le laethe na bliana, Nár áirítear i le líon na míonna!

7 As for that night, let it have no fruit; let no voice of joy be sounded in it;

7 Bíodh an oíche úd gruama, Nár thaga gáir áthais ina gaire!

7 ¡Oh si fuere aquella noche solitaria, Que no viniera canción alguna en ella!

8 Let it be cursed by those who put a curse on the day; who are ready to make Leviathan awake.

8 Go gcuire mallachtóirí an lae a mallacht uirthi, Agus an mhuintir atá réidh Leiviatan a mhúscailt!

9 Let its morning stars be dark; let it be looking for light, but may it not have any; let it not see the eyes of the dawn.

10 Because it did not keep the doors of my mother's body shut, so that trouble might be veiled from my eyes.

10 Uch nár dhún sé comhlaí na broinne orm Agus nár cheil an brón ar mo shúile.

11 Why did death not take me when I came out of my mother's body, why did I not, when I came out, give up my last breath?

12 Why did the knees take me, or why the breasts that they might give me milk?

13 For then I might have gone to my rest in quiet, and in sleep have been in peace,

13 Je serais couché maintenant, je serais tranquille, Je dormirais, je reposerais,

13 Ansin a luífinn síos faoi shuaimhneas, Rachainn a chodladh agus ligfinn mo scíth,

13 Pues que ahora yaciera yo, y reposara; Durmiera, y entonces tuviera reposo,

14 With kings and the wise ones of the earth, who put up great houses for themselves;

14 Con los reyes y con los consejeros de la tierra, Que edifican para sí los desiertos;

15 Or with rulers who had gold, and whose houses were full of silver;

15 Nó le flatha a mbíodh ór ina seilbh, Agus a líonadh a dtithe le hairgead;

16 Or as a child dead at birth I might never have come into existence; like young children who have not seen the light.

16 Nó mar mharbhleanbh folaithe [nach raibh ann], Amhail naíonáin nach bhfaca riamh an solas.

17 There the passions of the evil are over, and those whose strength has come to an end have rest.

17 Là ne s'agitent plus les méchants, Et là se reposent ceux qui sont fatigués et sans force;

17 Ansiúd a scoireann na hurchóidigh dá n‑urchóid Agus ansiúd a bhíonn lucht tuirse faoi shuaimhneas.

18 There the prisoners are at peace together; the voice of the overseer comes not again to their ears.

18 Les captifs sont tous en paix, Ils n'entendent pas la voix de l'oppresseur;

19 The small and the great are there, and the servant is free from his master.

19 Is cuma uasal agus íseal ansiúd, Agus tá an daor saor óna mhaistir.

20 Why does he give light to him who is in trouble, and life to the bitter in soul;

20 Cad chuige a dtugtar an solas don té atá faoi bhuairt? Agus an bheatha don drong atá faoi sheirfean anama,

21 To those whose desire is for death, but it comes not; who are searching for it more than for secret wealth;

21 An drong a shantaíonn an bás ach gan é a theacht Agus gur mó a dtóir air ná ar chiste folaithe;

21 Que esperan la muerte, y ella no llega, Aunque la buscan más que tesoros;

22 Who are glad with great joy, and full of delight when they come to their last resting-place;

22 An drong a bhíonn ag rince le corp lúcháire, Agus iad ag déanamh gairdis nuair a shroicheann siad an uaigh;

23 To a man whose way is veiled, and who is shut in by God?

23 Cad chuige a dtugtar an solas don duine a bhfuil a shlí i bhfolach, Agus ar thóg Dia fál ina thimpeall?

24 In place of my food I have grief, and cries of sorrow come from me like water.

25 For I have a fear and it comes on me, and my heart is greatly troubled.

25 An rud is baol liom, tagann sé i gcrích orm; An rud is eagal liom, titeann sé sa mhullach orm.

25 Denn was ich gefürchtet habe ist über mich gekommen, und was ich sorgte, hat mich getroffen.

26 I have no peace, no quiet, and no rest; nothing but pain comes on me.

26 Níl agam suaimhneas ná síoth, Níl agam sos, ach buaireamh i mo dháil.

26 No he tenido paz, no me aseguré, ni me estuve reposado; Vínome no obstante turbación.

26 War ich nicht glückselig? War ich nicht fein stille? Hatte ich nicht gute Ruhe? Und es kommt solche Unruhe!
