1 Now when the building of the wall was complete and I had put up the doors, and the door-keepers and the music-makers and the Levites had been given their places,

2 I made my brother Hanani, and Hananiah, the ruler of the tower, responsible for the government of Jerusalem: for he was a man of good faith, fearing God more than most.
2 Je donnai mes ordres à Hanani, mon frère, et à Hanania, chef de la citadelle de Jérusalem, homme supérieur au grand nombre par sa fidélité et par sa crainte de Dieu.
2 Chuir mé riaradh Iarúsailéim faoi chúram mo dhearthár Hanáiní agus Hanainiá, ceannasaí an dúnfoirt, mar ba dhuine iontaofa é agus eagla Dé air thar mar is gnáth.
2 Mandé á mi hermano Hanani, y á Hananías, príncipe del palacio de Jerusalem, (porque era éste, como varón de verdad y temeroso de Dios, sobre muchos;)

3 And I said to them, Do not let the doors of Jerusalem be open till the sun is high; and while the watchmen are in their places, let the doors be shut and locked: and let the people of Jerusalem be put on watch, every one in his watch, opposite his house.
3 Je leur dis: Les portes de Jérusalem ne s'ouvriront pas avant que la chaleur du soleil soit venue, et l'on fermera les battants aux verrous en votre présence; les habitants de Jérusalem feront la garde, chacun à son poste devant sa maison.

3 Y díjeles: No se abran las puertas de Jerusalem hasta que caliente el sol: y aun ellos presentes, cierren las puertas, y atrancad. Y señalé guardas de los moradores de Jerusalem, cada cual en su guardia, y cada uno delante de su casa.
3 und sprach zu Ihnen: Man soll die Tore Jerusalem nicht auftun, bis daß die Sonne heiß wird; und wenn man noch auf der Hut steht, soll man die Türen zuschlagen und verriegeln. Und es wurden Hüter bestellt aus den Bürgern Jerusalems, ein jeglicher auf seine Hut seinem Hause gegenüber.
4 Now the town was wide and great: but the people in it were only a small number, and the houses had not been put up.

5 And my God put it into my heart to get together the rulers and the chiefs and the people so that they might be listed by families. And I came across a record of the names of those who came up at the first, and in it I saw these words:
5 Mon Dieu me mit au coeur d'assembler les grands, les magistrats et le peuple, pour en faire le dénombrement. Je trouvai un registre généalogique de ceux qui étaient montés les premiers, et j'y vis écrit ce qui suit.
