1st Chronicles 20

1 Now Satan, designing evil against Israel, put into David's mind the impulse to take the number of Israel.

1 D'éirigh Sátan ina sheasamh in aghaidh Iosrael agus spreag sé Dáiví le daonáireamh a dhéanamh ar Iosrael.

2 And David said to Joab and the captains of the people, Now let all Israel, from Beer-sheba to Dan, be numbered; and give me word so that I may be certain of their number.

2 Dúirt Dáiví dá bhrí sin le Ióáb agus le hoifigigh shinsearacha an airm: “Imígí libh agus déanaigí daonáireamh ar Iosrael, ó Bhéit Seaba go Dán, agus tugaigí cuntas chugam i dtreo gurbh eol dom an líon iomlán.”

3 And Joab said, May the Lord make his people a hundred times more in number than they are; but, my lord king, are they not all my lord's servants? why would my lord have this done? why will he become a cause of sin to Israel?

3 Dúirt Ióáb: “Go gcuire an Tiarna an rath faoi chéad ar do phobal! Nach seirbhísigh le mo thiarna iad go léir, a thiarna, mo rí? Cén fáth a ndéanfadh mo thiarna an fiosrú seo? Cén fáth a dtabharfaí ciontacht ar Iosrael?”

Warum fragt denn mein Herr darnach? Warum soll eine Schuld auf Israel kommen?

4 But the king's word was stronger than Joab's. So Joab went out and went through all Israel and came to Jerusalem.

4 Ach chuir an rí an t‑ordú i bhfeidhm ar Ióáb agus d'imigh Ióáb leis agus ghabh trí Iosrael go léir agus ansin d'fhill ar Iarúsailéim.

5 And Joab gave David the number of all the people; all the men of Israel, able to take up arms, were one million, one hundred thousand men; and those of Judah were four hundred and seventy thousand men, able to take up arms.

5 Thug Ióáb figiúir an daonáirimh do Dháiví: in Iosrael go léir bhí milliún agus céad míle fear tarraingthe claímh, agus in Iúdá ceithre chéad seachtó míle fear tarraingthe claímh.

6 But Levi and Benjamin were not numbered among them, for Joab was disgusted with the king's order.

7 And God was not pleased with this thing; so he sent punishment on Israel.

7 Cet ordre déplut à Dieu, qui frappa Israël.

7 Ach bhí Dia míshásta leis an iompar seo agus bhuail sé Iosrael.

8 Then David said to God, Great has been my sin in doing this; but now, be pleased to take away the sin of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.

8 Ansin dúirt Dáiví le Dia: “Pheacaigh mé go trom á dhéanamh seo. Ach anois, impím ort an choir seo a mhaitheamh do do sheirbhíseach. Bhí mé an-amaideach.”

8 Y dijo David á Dios: He pecado gravemente en hacer esto: ruégote que hagas pasar la iniquidad de tu siervo, porque yo he hecho muy locamente.

9 Then the word of the Lord came to Gad, David's seer, saying,

9 Ansin labhair an Tiarna le Gád, fear feasa Dháiví á rá:

10 Go and say to David, The Lord says, Three things are offered to you: say which of them you will have, so that I may do it to you.

10 “Imigh agus abair le Dáiví: ‘Seo mar a deir an Tiarna: Tairgim trí rud duit; bíodh do rogha agat astu agus déanfaidh mé duit é.’ ”

11 So Gad came to David and said to him, The Lord says, Take whichever you will:

11 Gad alla vers David, et lui dit: Ainsi parle l'Éternel:

11 Chuaigh Gád dá bhrí sin go Dáiví agus dúirt leis: “Seo mar a deir an Tiarna: ‘Bíodh do rogha agat:

12 Three years when there will not be enough food; or three months of war, when you will go in flight before your haters, being in great danger of the sword; or three days of the sword of the Lord, disease in the land, and the angel of the Lord taking destruction through all the land of Israel. Now give thought to the answer I am to take back to him who sent me.

12 trí bliana de ghorta, nó trí mhí de scrios faoi lámha do naimhde agus claíomh do namhad á ropadh ionat, nó trí lá faoi chlaíomh an Tiarna agus plá sa tír ar feadh trí lá agus aingeal an Tiarna ag déanamh léirscrios ar chríocha Iosrael go léir.’ Socraigh anois cad é an freagra a thabharfaidh mé don té a chuir uaidh mé.”

13 And David said to Gad, This is a hard decision for me to make: let me come into the hands of the Lord, for great are his mercies: let me not come into the hands of men.

13 Dúirt Dáiví le Gád: “Is é rogha na ndíogha agam é! Ach is fearr go dtitfinn i lámha an Tiarna, óir is mór é a thrócaire, ná i lámha daoine.”

14 So the Lord sent disease on Israel, causing the death of seventy thousand men.

14 Chuir an Tiarna plá ar Iosrael, agus fuair seachtó míle d'fhir Iosrael bás.

15 And God sent an angel to Jerusalem for its destruction: and when he was about to do so, the Lord saw, and had regret for the evil, and said to the angel of destruction, It is enough; do no more. Now the angel of the Lord was by the grain-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

15 Ansin chuir an Tiarna an t‑aingeal go Iarúsailéim lena scrios, ach nuair a bhí sé ar tí í a scrios, d'fhéach an Tiarna agus tháinig ar mhalairt aigne faoin olc seo, agus dúirt sé leis an aingeal a bhí ag scrios an phobail: “Is leor sin! Fóill ar do láimh anois!” Bhí aingeal an Tiarna ina sheasamh ag urlár buailte Ornán an Iabúsach.

16 And David, lifting up his eyes, saw the angel of the Lord there between earth and heaven, with an uncovered sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the responsible men, clothed in haircloth, went down on their faces.

16 D'ardaigh Dáiví a shúile agus chonaic sé aingeal an Tiarna ina sheasamh idir neamh agus talamh, agus claíomh nocht ina láimh aige sínte amach i dtreo Iarúsailéim. Ansin Dáiví agus na seanóirí, agus iad gléasta in éadach róin, thit siad ar a mbéal agus ar a bhfiacla.

17 And David said to God, Was it not I who gave the order for the people to be numbered? It is I who have done the sin and the great wrong; but these are only sheep; what have they done? let your hand, O Lord God, be lifted up against me and against my family, but not against your people to send disease on them.

17 Dúirt Dáiví le Dia: “Nach mise a thug an t‑ordú an pobal a áireamh? Mise a pheacaigh; is mise a rinne an drochrud seo. Ach na daoine seo, an tréad seo, cad tá déanta acusan? Luíodh do lámh go trom ormsa, a Thiarna mo Dhia, agus ar mo chlann; ach téadh do phobal slán ón bplá.”

18 Then the angel of the Lord gave orders to Gad to say to David that he was to go and put up an altar to the Lord on the grain-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

18 Dúirt aingeal an Tiarna ansin le Gád: “Ní foláir do Dháiví dul suas agus altóir a thógáil don Tiarna ar urlár buailte Ornán an Iabúsach.”

19 And David went up, as Gad had said in the name of the Lord.

19 Ghabh Dáiví suas dá bhrí sin de réir bhriathar Ghád, an briathar a labhair sé in ainm an Tiarna.

20 And Ornan, turning back, saw the angel, and his four sons who were with him went to a secret place. Now Ornan was crushing his grain.

20 Bhí Ornán ag bualadh cruithneachta, agus chas sé ar a sháil agus chonaic an t‑aingeal agus chuaigh sé i bhfolach, é féin agus a cheathrar mac a bhí in éineacht leis.

21 And when David came, Ornan, looking, saw him, and came out from the grain-floor and went down on his face to the earth before him.

21 Nuair a bhí Dáiví ag teacht chuige, d'fhéach Ornán síos agus chonaic Dáiví; d'fhág sé an t‑urlár buailte, agus thug sé ómós do Dháiví agus a cheann crom chun talún.

22 Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place where this grain-floor is, so that I may put up an altar here to the Lord: let me have it for its full price; so that this disease may be stopped among the people.

22 Ansin dúirt Dáiví le hOrnán: “Tabhair dom láthair an urláir bhuailte le haltóir a thógáil ann don Tiarna - tabhair dom é ar a luach iomlán - i dtreo go gcasfaí an phlá ar shiúl ón bpobal.”

23 And Ornan said to David, Take it, and let my lord the king do what seems right to him. See, I give you the oxen for burned offerings and the grain-cleaning instruments for fire-wood, and the grain for the meal offering; I give it all.

23 Ansin dúirt Ornán le Dáiví: “Tóg é, agus déanadh mo thiarna, an rí, mar is áil leis. Seo duit na daimh don íobairt uileloiscthe, na súistí mar adhmad, agus an chruithneacht mar abhlann. Bídís go léir agat.”

24 And King David said to Ornan, No; I will certainly give you the full price for it, because I will not take for the Lord what is yours, or give a burned offering without payment.

Ní thógfaidh mé don Tiarna an rud is leatsa; ní ofrálfaidh mé íobairtí uileloiscthe nár chosain aon ní orm.”

24 Aber der König David sprach zu Ornan: Nicht also, sondern um volles Geld will ich's kaufen; denn ich will nicht, was dein ist, nehmen für den HERRN und will's nicht umsonst haben zum Brandopfer.

25 So David gave Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place.

25 Et David donna à Ornan six cents sicles d'or pour l'emplacement.

25 Thug Dáiví dá bhrí sin sé chéad seicil óir meáite d'Ornán ar an láthair.

25 Also gab David Ornan um den Platz Gold, am Gewicht sechshundert Lot.

26 And David put up an altar there to the Lord, offering burned offerings and peace-offerings with prayers to the Lord; and he gave him an answer from heaven, sending fire on the altar of burned offering.

Ghlaoigh sé ar an Tiarna agus d'fhreagair an Tiarna é le tine ó neamh ar altóir an uileloiscthe,

27 Then the Lord gave orders to the angel, and he put back his sword into its cover.

27 agus thug sé ordú don aingeal agus chuir sé a chlaíomh ina thruaill.

28 At that time, when David saw that the Lord had given him an answer on the grain-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he made an offering there.

28 Nuair a chonaic sé gur fhreagair an Tiarna é ar urlár buailte Ornán an Iabúsach, d'ofráil Dáiví íobairt dó ansiúd.

29 For the House of the Lord, which Moses had made in the waste land, and the altar of burned offerings, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.

29 Taibearnacal an Tiarna a rinne Maois san fhásach, agus altóir an uileloiscthe, bhíodar an uair sin san ardionad i nGibeón.

30 But David was not able to go before it to get directions from the Lord, so great was his fear of the sword of the angel of the Lord.

30 Ach ní raibh sé ar a chumas ag Dáiví dul isteach i láthair Dé ansiúd le dul i gcomhairle leis, le barr eagla roimh chlaíomh aingeal an Tiarna.
