1 Now it came about after this that death came to Nahash, the king of the children of Ammon, and his son became king in his place.
1 Après cela, Nachasch, roi des fils d'Ammon, mourut, et son fils régna à sa place.

1 Und nach diesem starb Nahas, der König der Kinder Ammon, und sein Sohn ward König an seiner Statt.
2 And David said, I will be a friend to Hanun, the son of Nahash, because his father was a friend to me. So David sent men to him, to give him words of comfort on account of his father. And the servants of David came to Hanun, to the land of the children of Ammon, offering him comfort.
2 David dit: Je montrerai de la bienveillance à Hanun, fils de Nachasch, car son père en a montré à mon égard. Et David envoya des messagers pour le consoler au sujet de son père. Lorsque les serviteurs de David arrivèrent dans le pays des fils d'Ammon auprès de Hanun, pour le consoler,
2 Dúirt Dáiví leis féin: “Beidh mé chomh cineálta céanna le Hánún mac Nácháis agus a bhí a athair liomsa.” Chuir Dáiví seirbhísigh chuige le teachtaireacht chomhbhróin faoi bhás a athar. Ach nuair a tháinig seirbhísigh Dháiví go Hánún i dtír na nAmónach lena dteachtaireacht chomhbhróin,
2 Y dijo David: Haré misericordia con Hanán hijo de Naas, porque también su padre hizo conmigo misericordia. Así David envió embajadores que lo consolasen de la muerte de su padre. Mas venidos los siervos de David en la tierra de los hijos de Ammón á Hanán, para consolarle,
2 Da gedachte David: Ich will Barmherzigkeit tun an Hanon, dem Sohn des Nahas; denn sein Vater hat an mir Barmherzigkeit getan. Und sandte Boten hin, ihn zu trösten über seinen Vater. Und da die Knechte Davids ins Land der Kinder Ammon kamen zu Hanon, ihn zu trösten,
3 But the chiefs of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Does it seem to you that David is honouring your father, by sending comforters to you? is it not clear that these men have only come to go through the land and to make secret observation of it so that they may overcome it?
3 les chefs des fils d'Ammon dirent à Hanun: Penses-tu que ce soit pour honorer ton père que David t'envoie des consolateurs? N'est-ce pas pour reconnaître la ville et pour la détruire, et pour explorer le pays, que ses serviteurs sont venus auprès de toi?
3 dúirt ceannairí na nAmónach le Hánún: “An dóigh leat gur d'fhonn onóir a thabhairt do d'athair atá teachtairí comhbhróin á gcur ag Dáiví chugat? A mhalairt, nach bhfuil a sheirbhísigh curtha ag Dáiví chugat chun an chathair a bhrath, a scrios, agus a spíonadh?”
3 Los príncipes de los hijos de Ammón dijeron á Hanán: ¿A tu parecer honra David á tu padre, que te ha enviado consoladores? ¿no vienen antes sus siervos á ti para escudriñar, é inquirir, y reconocer la tierra?
3 sprachen die Fürsten der Kinder Ammon zu Hanon: Meinst du, daß David deinen Vater ehre vor deinen Augen, daß er Tröster zu dir gesandt hat? Ja, seine Knechte sind gekommen zu dir, zu forschen und umzukehren und zu erkunden das Land.
4 So Hanun took David's servants, and cutting off their hair and the skirts of their robes up to the middle, sent them away.
4 Alors Hanun saisit les serviteurs de David, les fit raser, et fit couper leurs habits par le milieu jusqu'au haut des cuisses. Puis il les congédia.
4 Ghabh Hánún seirbhísigh Dháiví dá bhrí sin, bhearr an fhéasóg de gach duine díobh, ghearr a gcuid éadaigh díobh leath slí suas chun a más, agus chuir chun siúil iad,
4 Entonces Hanán tomó los siervos de David, y rapólos, y cortóles los vestidos por medio, hasta las nalgas, y despachólos.
4 Da nahm Hanon die Knechte Davids und schor sie und schnitt ihre Kleider halb ab bis an die Lenden und ließ sie gehen.
5 Then certain men went and gave David word of what had been done to them. And he sent out with the purpose of meeting them; for the men were greatly shamed. And the king said, Keep where you are at Jericho till your hair is long again, and then come back.
5 David, que l'on vint informer de ce qui était arrivé à ces hommes, envoya des gens à leur rencontre, car ils étaient dans une grande confusion; et le roi leur fit dire: Restez à Jéricho jusqu'à ce que votre barbe ait repoussé, et revenez ensuite.
5 agus d'imigh siad leo. Nuair a insíodh do Dháiví faoinar tharla do na fir, chuir sé teachtaire ina gcoinne, mar go raibh náire shaolta ar na fir: “Fanaigí i Ireachó,” arsan rí, “go bhfása bhur bhféasóg arís agus tagaigí ar ais ansin.”
5 Fuéronse pues, y dada que fué la nueva á David de aquellos varones, él envió á recibirlos, porque estaban muy afrentados. E hízoles decir el rey: Estaos en Jericó hasta que os crezca la barba, y entonces volveréis.
5 Und etliche gingen hin und sagten es David an von den Männern. Er aber sandte ihnen entgegen; denn die Männer waren sehr geschändet. Und der König sprach: Bleibet zu Jericho, bis euer Bart wachse; so kommt dann wieder.
6 And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves hated by David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver as payment for war-carriages and horsemen from Mesopotamia and Aram-maacah and Zobah.
6 Les fils d'Ammon virent qu'ils s'étaient rendus odieux à David, et Hanun et les fils d'Ammon envoyèrent mille talents d'argent pour prendre à leur solde des chars et des cavaliers chez les Syriens de Mésopotamie et chez les Syriens de Maaca et de Tsoba.
6 Nuair a chonaic na hAmónaigh go raibh an ghráin ginte ag Dáiví dóibh, sheoladar míle tallann airgid le carbaid agus carbadóirí a fhostú ó Aramaeigh na Measpatáime Uachtaraí, Mácá agus Zóbá.
6 Y viendo los hijos de Ammón que se habían hecho odiosos á David, Hanán y los hijos de Ammón enviaron mil talentos de plata, para tomar á sueldo carros y gente de á caballo de Siria de los ríos, y de la Siria de Maachâ, y de Soba.
6 Da aber die Kinder Ammon sahen, daß sie waren stinkend geworden vor David, sandten sie hin, beide Hanon und die Kinder Ammon, tausend Zentner Silber, Wagen und Reiter zu dingen aus Mesopotamien, aus dem Syrien von Maacha und aus Zoba.
7 So with this money they got thirty-two thousand war-carriages, and the help of the king of Maacah and his people, who came and took up their position in front of Medeba. And the children of Ammon came together from their towns for the fight.
7 Ils prirent à leur solde trente-deux mille chars et le roi de Maaca avec son peuple, lesquels vinrent camper devant Médeba. Les fils d'Ammon se rassemblèrent de leurs villes, et marchèrent au combat.
7 D'fhostaigh siad tríocha dó míle carbad, agus rí Mhácá agus a chuid fear, agus tháinig siadsan agus shuigh siad a longfort os comhair Mhaedabá; maidir leis na hAmónaigh, chruinníodar le chéile as a gcathracha agus ghluaiseadar ar aghaidh chun catha.
7 Y tomaron á sueldo treinta y dos mil carros, y al rey de Maachâ y á su pueblo, los cuales vinieron y asentaron su campo delante de Medeba. Y juntáronse también los hijos de Ammón de sus ciudades, y vinieron á la guerra.
7 Und dingten zweiunddreißigtausend Wagen und den König von Maacha mit seinem Volk; die kamen und lagerten sich vor Medeba. Und die Kinder Ammon sammelten sich aus ihren Städten und kamen zum Streit.
8 And David, hearing of it, sent Joab with all the army of fighting-men.
8 A cette nouvelle, David envoya contre eux Joab et toute l'armée, les hommes vaillants.
8 Nuair a chuala Dáiví é sin sheol sé amach Ióáb leis na saighdiúirí singil agus leis na curaidh.
8 Oyéndolo David, envió á Joab con todo el ejército de los hombres valientes.
8 Da das David hörte, sandte er hin Joab mit dem ganzen Heer der Helden.
9 So the children of Ammon came out and put their forces in position on the way into the town; and the kings who had come were stationed by themselves in the field.
9 Les fils d'Ammon sortirent, et se rangèrent en bataille à l'entrée de la ville; les rois qui étaient venus prirent position séparément dans la campagne.
9 Mháirseáil na hAmónaigh amach agus chuadar in eagar catha ag an mbealach isteach sa chathair, ach d'fhan na ríthe a tháinig ó chéin leo féin sa mhachaire.
9 Y los hijos de Ammón salieron, y ordenaron su tropa á la entrada de la ciudad; y los reyes que habían venido, estaban por sí en el campo.
9 Die Kinder Ammon aber waren ausgezogen und rüsteten sich zum Streit vor der Stadt Tor. Die Könige aber, die gekommen waren, hielten im Felde besonders.
10 Now when Joab saw that their forces were in position against him in front and at his back, he took all the best men of Israel, and put them in line against the Aramaeans;
10 Joab vit qu'il avait à combattre par devant et par derrière. Il choisit alors sur toute l'élite d'Israël un corps, qu'il opposa aux Syriens;
10 Nuair a chonaic Ióáb go raibh an cath le cur ar a bhéala agus ar a chúla le chéile, roghnaigh sé cuid de thogha na nIosraelach agus chóirigh iad in aghaidh na nAramaech.
10 Y viendo Joab que la haz de la batalla estaba contra él delante y á las espaldas, escogió de todos los más aventajados que había en Israel, y ordenó su escuadrón contra los Sirios.
10 Da nun Joab sah, daß vorn und hinter ihm Streit wider ihn war, erwählte er aus aller jungen Mannschaft in Israel und stellte sich gegen die Syrer.
11 And the rest of the people he put in position against the children of Ammon with Abishai, his brother, at their head.
11 et il plaça sous le commandement de son frère Abischaï le reste du peuple, pour faire face aux fils d'Ammon.
11 Chuir sé an chuid eile den arm faoi cheannas a dhearthár Aibísí agus cóiríodh iad in aghaidh na nAmónach.
11 Puso luego el resto de la gente en mano de Abisai su hermano, ordenándolos en batalla contra los Ammonitas.
11 Das übrige Volk aber tat er unter die Hand Abisais, seines Bruders, daß sie sich rüsteten wider die Kinder Ammon,
12 And he said, If the Aramaeans are stronger and get the better of me, then come to my help; and if the children of Ammon get the better of you, I will come to your help.
12 Il dit: Si les Syriens sont plus forts que moi, tu viendras à mon secours; et si les fils d'Ammon sont plus forts que toi, j'irai à ton secours.
12 “Má bhíonn na hAramaeigh róthréan domsa, tarsa i gcabhair orm,” ar sé, “ach má bhíonn na hAmónaigh róthréan duitse, rachaidh mise i gcabhair ortsa.
12 Y dijo: Si los Siros fueren más fuertes que yo, tú me salvarás; y si los Ammonitas fueren más fuertes que tú, yo te salvaré.
12 und sprach: Wenn mir die Syrer zu stark werden, so komm mir zu Hilfe; wo dir aber die Kinder Ammon zu stark werden, will ich dir helfen.
13 Take heart, and let us be strong for our people and for the towns of our God; and may the Lord do what seems good to him.
13 Sois ferme, et montrons du courage pour notre peuple et pour les villes de notre Dieu, et que l'Éternel fasse ce qui lui semblera bon!
13 Bíodh misneach agat agus seasaimis an fód ar son ár bpobail agus ar son cathracha ár nDé. Go ndéana an Tiarna mar is rogha leis.”
13 Esfuérzate, y esforcémonos por nuestro pueblo, y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y haga Jehová lo que bien le pareciere.
13 Sei getrost und laß uns getrost handeln für unser Volk und für die Städte unseres Gottes; der HERR tue, was ihm gefällt.
14 So Joab and the people who were with him went forward into the fight against the Aramaeans, and they went in flight before him.
14 Joab, avec son peuple, s'avança pour attaquer les Syriens, et ils s'enfuirent devant lui.
14 Chuaigh Ióáb agus an mhuintir a bhí in éineacht leis i ngleic leis na hAramaeigh, ach theitheadarsan uaidh.
14 Acercóse luego Joab y el pueblo que tenía consigo, para pelear contra los Siros; mas ellos huyeron delante de él.
14 Und Joab machte sich herzu mit dem Volk, das bei ihm war, gegen die Syrer zu streiten; und sie flohen vor ihm.
15 And when the children of Ammon saw the flight of the Aramaeans, they themselves went in flight from Abishai, his brother, and came into the town. Then Joab came back to Jerusalem.
15 Et quand les fils d'Ammon virent que les Syriens avaient pris la fuite, ils s'enfuirent aussi devant Abischaï, frère de Joab, et rentrèrent dans la ville. Et Joab revint à Jérusalem.
15 Nuair a chonaic na hAmónaigh gur theith na hAramaeigh, theitheadar féin leis ó Aibísí, deartháir Ióáb, agus isteach leo ina gcathair. Ansin d'fhill Ióáb ar ais go Iarúsailéim.
15 Y los hijos de Ammón, viendo que los Siros habían huído, huyeron también ellos delante de Abisai su hermano, y entráronse en la ciudad. Entonces Joab se volvió á Jerusalem.
15 Da aber die Kinder Ammon sahen, daß die Syrer flohen, flohen sie auch vor Abisai, seinem Bruder, und zogen in die Stadt. Joab aber kam gen Jerusalem.
16 And when the Aramaeans saw that Israel had overcome them, they sent men to get the Aramaeans who were on the other side of the River, with Shophach, the captain of Hadadezer's army, at their head.
16 Les Syriens, voyant qu'ils avaient été battus par Israël, envoyèrent chercher les Syriens qui étaient de l'autre côté du fleuve; et Schophach, chef de l'armée d'Hadarézer, était à leur tête.
16 Nuair a chonaic na hAramaeigh gur bhris Iosrael orthu, chuireadar teachtairí uathu agus thionóladar na hAramaeigh ó lastall den abhainn, le Seofac, ceann feadhna arm Hadad Eizir, á dtreorú.
16 Y viendo los Siros que habían caído delante de Israel, enviaron embajadores, y trajeron á los Siros que estaban de la otra parte del río, cuyo capitán era Sophach, general del ejército de Adarezer.
16 Da aber die Syrer sahen, daß sie vor Israel geschlagen waren, sandten sie Boten hin und brachten heraus die Syrer jenseit des Stroms; und Sophach, der Feldhauptmann Hadadesers, zog vor ihnen her.
17 And word of this was given to David; and he got all Israel together and went over Jordan and came to Helam and put his forces in position against them. And when David's forces were in position against the Aramaeans, the fight was started.
17 On l'annonça à David, qui assembla tout Israël, passa le Jourdain, marcha contre eux, et se prépara à les attaquer. David se rangea en bataille contre les Syriens. Mais les Syriens, après s'être battus avec lui, s'enfuirent devant Israël.
17 Nuair a insíodh é sin do Dháiví, chruinnigh sé Iosrael go léir le chéile agus ghabh thar an Iordáin, tháinig suas leo, agus ghabh láthair taobh leo. Chóirigh Dáiví a shluaite in eagar catha os comhair na nAramaech agus chuadarsan i ngleic leis.
17 Luego que fué dado aviso á David, juntó á todo Israel, y pasando el Jordán vino á ellos, y ordenó contra ellos su ejército. Y como David hubo ordenado su tropa contra ellos, pelearon con él los Siros.
17 Da das David angesagt ward, sammelte er zuhauf das ganze Israel und zog über den Jordan; und da er an sie kam, rüstete er sich wider sie. Und David rüstete sich gegen die Syrer zum Streit, und sie stritten mit ihm.
18 And the Aramaeans went in flight before Israel; and David put to the sword the men of seven thousand Aramaean war-carriages and forty thousand footmen, and put to death Shophach, the captain of the army.
18 David leur tua les troupes de sept mille chars et quarante mille hommes de pied, et il fit mourir Schophach, chef de l'armée.
18 Ach theith na hAramaeigh ó Iosrael agus mharaigh Dáiví seacht míle dá bhfoirne carbad, agus daichead míle troitheach; mharaigh sé Seofac a gceann feadhna chomh maith.
18 Mas el Siro huyó delante de Israel; y mató David de los Siros siete mil hombres de los carros, y cuarenta mil hombres de á pie: asimismo mató á Sophach, general del ejército.
18 Aber die Syrer flohen vor Israel. Und David verderbte der Syrer siebentausend Wagen und vierzigtausend Mann zu Fuß; dazu tötete er Sophach, den Feldhauptmann.
19 And when the servants of Hadadezer saw that they were overcome by Israel, they made peace with David and became his servants: and the Aramaeans would give no more help to the children of Ammon.
19 Les serviteurs d'Hadarézer, se voyant battus par Israël, firent la paix avec David et lui furent assujettis. Et les Syriens ne voulurent plus secourir les fils d'Ammon.
