1 Saul was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned over Israel forty two years.
1 Saül était âgé de... ans, lorsqu'il devint roi, et il avait déjà régné deux ans sur Israël.

1 Saul war ein Jahr König gewesen; und da er zwei Jahre über Israel regiert hatte,
2 And Saul took for himself three thousand men of Israel, of whom he kept two thousand with him in Michmash and in the mountain of Beth-el, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah in the land of Benjamin: the rest of the people he sent back to their tents.
2 Saül choisit trois mille hommes d'Israël: deux mille étaient avec lui à Micmasch et sur la montagne de Béthel, et mille étaient avec Jonathan à Guibea de Benjamin. Il renvoya le reste du peuple, chacun à sa tente.
2 Thogh Sól trí mhíle fear as Iosrael; bhí dhá mhíle le Sól i Micmeáis agus in ardáin Bhéitéil, agus míle le Iónátán ag Gibeá Bhiniáimin; chuir Sól an chuid eile den phobal abhaile, gach duine chun a bhotha féin.
2 Escogióse luego tres mil de Israel: los dos mil estuvieron con Saúl en Michmas y en el monte de Beth-el, y los mil estuvieron con Jonathán en Gabaa de Benjamín; y envió á todo el otro pueblo cada uno á sus tiendas.
2 erwählte er sich dreitausend Mann aus Israel. Zweitausend waren mit Saul zu Michmas und auf dem Gebirge zu Beth-El und eintausend mit Jonathan zu Gibea-Benjamin; das andere Volk aber ließ er gehen, einen jeglichen in seine Hütte.
3 And Jonathan made an attack on the armed force of the Philistines stationed at Gibeah; and news was given to the Philistines that the Hebrews were turned against them. And Saul had a horn sounded through all the land,
3 Jonathan battit le poste des Philistins qui étaient à Guéba, et les Philistins l'apprirent. Saül fit sonner de la trompette dans tout le pays, en disant: Que les Hébreux écoutent!
3 Scrios Iónátán an garastún Filistíneach a bhí i nGibeá, agus thuig na Filistínigh [go raibh na hEabhraigh éirithe amach]. Shéid Sól an trumpa ó cheann ceann na tíre á rá: “Bíodh cluas le héisteacht ar na hEabhraigh!”
3 Y Jonathán hirió la guarnición de los Filisteos que había en el collado, y oyéronlo los Filisteos. E hizo Saúl tocar trompetas por toda la tierra, diciendo: Oigan los Hebreos.
3 Jonathan aber schlug die Schildwacht der Philister, die zu Gibea war. Das kam vor die Philister. Und Saul ließ die Posaune blasen im ganzen Land und sagen: Das laßt die Hebräer hören!
4 And all Israel had the news that Saul had made an attack on the Philistines, and that Israel was bitterly hated by the Philistines. And the people came together after Saul to Gilgal.
4 Tout Israël entendit que l'on disait: Saül a battu le poste des Philistins, et Israël se rend odieux aux Philistins. Et le peuple fut convoqué auprès de Saül à Guilgal.
4 Agus chuala Iosrael go léir an scéala gur scrios Sól garastún na bhFilistíneach, agus go raibh Iosrael anois in earraid leis na Filistínigh. Tháinig an pobal go léir le chéile go Sól ag Gilgeál.
4 Y todo Israel oyó lo que se decía: Saúl ha herido la guarnición de los Filisteos; y también que Israel olía mal á los Filisteos. Y juntóse el pueblo en pos de Saúl en Gilgal.
4 Und ganz Israel hörte sagen: Saul hat der Philister Schildwacht geschlagen, und Israel ist stinkend geworden vor den Philistern. Und alles Volk wurde zuhauf gerufen Saul nach gen Gilgal.
5 And the Philistines came together to make war on Israel, three thousand war-carriages and six thousand horsemen and an army of people like the sands of the sea in number: they came up and took up their position in Michmash, to the east of Beth-aven.
5 Les Philistins s'assemblèrent pour combattre Israël. Ils avaient mille chars et six mille cavaliers, et ce peuple était innombrable comme le sable qui est sur le bord de la mer. Ils vinrent camper à Micmasch, à l'orient de Beth Aven.
5 Thionóil na Filistínigh tríocha míle carbad, sé mhíle marcach, agus slua chomh líonmhar le gaineamh na trá chun troda in aghaidh Iosrael. Thángadar aníos agus shuíodar a gcampa i Micmeáis lastoir de Bhéit Ávan.
5 Entonces los Filisteos se juntaron para pelear con Israel, treinta mil carros, y seis mil caballos, y pueblo como la arena que está á la orilla de la mar en multitud; y subieron, y asentaron campo en Michmas, al oriente de Beth-aven.
5 Da versammelten sich die Philister, zu streiten mit Israel, dreißigtausend Wagen, sechstausend Reiter und sonst Volk, so viel wie Sand am Rand des Meers, und zogen herauf und lagerten sich zu Michmas, gegen Morgen vor Beth-Aven.
6 When the men of Israel saw the danger they were in, (for the people were troubled,) they took cover in cracks in the hillsides and in the woods and in rocks and holes and hollows.
6 Les hommes d'Israël se virent à l'extrémité, car ils étaient serrés de près, et ils se cachèrent dans les cavernes, dans les buissons, dans les rochers, dans les tours et dans les citernes.
6 Nuair a chonaic slua Iosrael go rabhadar i gcúngrach [mar bhíothas ag brú go trom orthu], chuadar i bhfolach in uaimheanna, i bpluaiseanna, i gcarraigeacha, i dtuamaí agus i dtoibreacha.
6 Mas los hombres de Israel, viéndose puestos en estrecho, (porque el pueblo estaba en aprieto), escondióse el pueblo en cuevas, en fosos, en peñascos, en rocas y en cisternas.
6 Da das sahen die Männer Israels, daß sie in Nöten waren (denn dem Volk war bange), verkrochen sie sich in die Höhlen und Klüfte und Felsen und Löcher und Gruben.
7 And a great number of the people had gone over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but Saul was still in Gilgal, and all the people went after him shaking in fear.
7 Il y eut aussi des Hébreux qui passèrent le Jourdain, pour aller au pays de Gad et de Galaad. Saül était encore à Guilgal, et tout le peuple qui se trouvait auprès de lui tremblait.
7 Ghabh [a thuilleadh díobh] thar áthanna na Iordáine anonn go Gád agus Gileád. Bhí Sól fós i nGilgeál agus bhí a lucht leanúna go léir ar ballchrith.
7 Y algunos de los Hebreos pasaron el Jordán á la tierra de Gad y de Galaad: y Saúl se estaba aún en Gilgal, y todo el pueblo iba tras él temblando.
7 Es gingen aber auch Hebräer über den Jordan ins Land Gad und Gilead. Saul aber war noch zu Gilgal, und alles Volk ward hinter ihm verzagt.
8 And he went on waiting there for seven days, the time fixed by Samuel: but Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were starting to go away from him.
8 Il attendit sept jours, selon le terme fixé par Samuel. Mais Samuel n'arrivait pas à Guilgal, et le peuple se dispersait loin de Saül.
8 D'fhan sé seacht lá, an fad a shocraigh Samúéil, ach níor tháinig Samúéil go Gilgeál, agus bhí an t‑arm ag tréigean Shóil agus ag scaipeadh.
8 Y él esperó siete días, conforme al plazo que Samuel había dicho; pero Samuel no venía á Gilgal, y el pueblo se le desertaba.
8 Da harrte er sieben Tage auf die Zeit, von Samuel bestimmt. Und da Samuel nicht kam gen Gilgal, zerstreute sich das Volk von ihm.
9 Then Saul said, Come here and give me the burned offering and the peace-offerings. And he made a burned offering to the Lord.
9 Alors Saül dit: Amenez-moi l'holocauste et les sacrifices d'actions de grâces. Et il offrit l'holocauste.
9 Dúirt Sól más ea: “Tugaigí chugam an íobairt uileloiscthe agus na híobairtí comaoineach,” agus d'ofráil sé an íobairt uileloiscthe.
9 Entonces dijo Saúl: Traedme holocausto y sacrificios pacíficos. Y ofreció el holocausto.
9 Da sprach Saul: Bringt mir her Brandopfer und Dankopfer. Und er opferte Brandopfer.
10 And when the burned offering was ended, Samuel came; and Saul went out to see him and to give him a blessing.
10 Comme il achevait d'offrir l'holocauste, voici, Samuel arriva, et Saül sortit au-devant de lui pour le saluer.

10 Y como él acababa de hacer el holocausto, he aquí Samuel que venía; y Saúl le salió á recibir para saludarle.
10 Als aber das Brandopfer vollendet war, siehe, da kam Samuel. Da ging Saul hinaus ihm entgegen, ihn zu grüßen.
11 And Samuel said, What have you done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were going away from me, and you had not come at the time which had been fixed, and the Philistines had come together at Michmash;
11 Samuel dit: Qu'as-tu fait? Saül répondit: Lorsque j'ai vu que le peuple se dispersait loin de moi, que tu n'arrivais pas au terme fixé, et que les Philistins étaient assemblés à Micmasch,
11 ach dúirt Samúéil leis: “Cad tá déanta agat?” D'fhreagair Sól: “Chonaic mé an t‑arm do mo thréigean, agus á scaipeadh, agus ní raibh tusa tagtha faoin lá a ceapadh, ach bhí na Filistínigh ag tionól i Micmeáis.
11 Entonces Samuel dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? Y Saúl respondió: Porque vi que el pueblo se me iba, y que tú no venías al plazo de los días, y que los Filisteos estaban juntos en Michmas,
11 Samuel aber sprach: Was hast du getan? Saul antwortete: Ich sah, daß das Volk sich von mir zerstreute, und du kamst nicht zu bestimmter Zeit, und die Philister waren versammelt zu Michmas.
12 I said, Now the Philistines will come down on me at Gilgal, and I have made no prayer for help to the Lord: and so, forcing myself to do it, I made a burned offering.
12 je me suis dit: Les Philistins vont descendre contre moi à Guilgal, et je n'ai pas imploré l'Éternel! C'est alors que je me suis fait violence et que j'ai offert l'holocauste.
12 Dúirt mé liom féin: ‘Tá na Filistínigh ar tí mé a ionsaí ag Gilgeál, agus níor impigh mé fabhar an Tiarna.’ Níorbh fholáir liom beart a dhéanamh agus d'ofráil mé an íobairt uileloiscthe mé féin.”
12 Me dije: Los Filisteos descenderán ahora contra mí á Gilgal, y yo no he implorado el favor de Jehová. Esforcéme pues, y ofrecí holocausto.
12 Da sprach ich: Nun werden die Philister zu mir herabkommen gen Gilgal, und ich habe das Angesicht des HERRN nicht erbeten; da wagte ich's und opferte Brandopfer.
13 And Samuel said to Saul, You have done a foolish thing: you have not kept the rules which the Lord your God gave you; it was the purpose of the Lord to make your authority over Israel safe for ever.
13 Samuel dit à Saül: Tu as agi en insensé, tu n'as pas observé le commandement que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'avait donné. L'Éternel aurait affermi pour toujours ton règne sur Israël;
13 D'fhreagair Samúéil Sól: “Is baoth an beart a rínne tú. Níor chuir tú an t‑ordú a thug an Tiarna do Dhia duit i gcrích; óir dhaingneodh an Tiarna do fhlaitheas ar Iosrael go brách.
13 Entonces Samuel dijo á Saúl: Locamente has hecho; no guardaste el mandamiento de Jehová tu Dios, que él te había intimado; porque ahora Jehová hubiera confirmado tu reino sobre Israel para siempre.
13 Samuel aber sprach zu Saul: Du hast töricht getan und nicht gehalten des HERRN, deines Gottes, Gebot, das er dir geboten hat; denn er hätte dein Reich bestätigt über Israel für und für.
14 But now, your authority will not go on: the Lord, searching for a man who is pleasing to him in every way, has given him the place of ruler over his people, because you have not done what the Lord gave you orders to do.
14 et maintenant ton règne ne durera point. L'Éternel s'est choisi un homme selon son coeur, et l'Éternel l'a destiné à être le chef de son peuple, parce que tu n'as pas observé ce que l'Éternel t'avait commandé.

14 Mas ahora tu reino no será durable: Jehová se ha buscado varón según su corazón, al cual Jehová ha mandado que sea capitán sobre su pueblo, por cuanto tú no has guardado lo que Jehová te mandó.
14 Aber nun wird dein Reich nicht bestehen. Der HERR hat sich einen Mann ersucht nach seinem Herzen; dem hat der HERR geboten, Fürst zu sein über sein Volk; denn du hast des HERRN Gebot nicht gehalten.
15 Then Samuel went up from Gilgal and the rest of the people went up after Saul against the men of war, and they came from Gilgal to Gibeah in the land of Benjamin: and Saul took the number of the people who were with him, about six hundred men.
15 Puis Samuel se leva, et monta de Guilgal à Guibea de Benjamin. Saül fit la revue du peuple qui se trouvait avec lui: il y avait environ six cents hommes.
15 D'éirigh Samúéil agus d'imigh leis ó Ghilgeál go Gibeá Bhiniáimin. Chomhair Sól an mhuintir a bhí in éineacht leis, timpeall sé chéad fear.
15 Y levantándose Samuel, subió de Gilgal á Gabaa de Benjamín. Y Saúl contó la gente que se hallaba con él, como seiscientos hombres.
15 Und Samuel machte sich auf und ging von Gilgal gen Gibea-Benjamin. Aber Saul zählte das Volk, das bei ihm war, bei sechshundert Mann.
16 And Saul, with Jonathan his son and the people who were with them, was waiting in Geba in the land of Benjamin: but the tents of the Philistines were in Michmash.
16 Saül, son fils Jonathan, et le peuple qui se trouvait avec eux, avaient pris position à Guéba de Benjamin, et les Philistins campaient à Micmasch.

16 Saúl pues y Jonathán su hijo, y el pueblo que con ellos se hallaba, quedáronse en Gabaa de Benjamín: mas los Filisteos habían puesto su campo en Michmas.
16 Saul aber und sein Sohn Jonathan und das Volk, das bei ihm war, blieben zu Gibea-Benjamin. Die Philister aber hatten sich gelagert zu Michmas.
17 And three bands of men came out from the Philistines to make an attack; one band went by the road which goes to Ophrah, into the land of Shual:
17 Il sortit du camp des Philistins trois corps pour ravager: l'un prit le chemin d'Ophra, vers le pays de Schual;
17 Tháinig lucht creiche amach as campa na bhFilistíneach i dtrí dhíorma; chas díorma díobh i dtreo Ofrá go tír Sheúol;
17 Y salieron del campo de los Filisteos en correría tres escuadrones. El un escuadrón tiró por el camino de Ophra hacia la tierra de Sual.
17 Und aus dem Lager der Philister zogen drei Haufen, das Land zu verheeren. Einer wandte sich auf die Straße gen Ophra ins Land Sual;
18 And another went in the direction of Beth-horon: and another went by the hill looking down on the valley of Zeboiim, in the direction of the waste land.
18 l'autre prit le chemin de Beth Horon; et le troisième prit le chemin de la frontière qui regarde la vallée de Tseboïm, du côté du désert.
18 díorma eile i dtreo Bhéit Horón, agus an tríú díorma i dtreo na teorann atá ag féachaint anuas ar Ghleann Zabóím i dtreo an fhásaigh.
18 El otro escuadrón marchó hacia Beth-oron, y el tercer escuadrón marchó hacia la región que mira al valle de Seboim hacia el desierto.
18 der andere wandte sich auf die Straße Beth-Horons; der dritte wandte sich auf die Straße, die da reicht bis an das Tal Zeboim an der Wüste.
19 Now there was no iron-worker in all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, For fear the Hebrews make themselves swords or spears:
19 On ne trouvait point de forgeron dans tout le pays d'Israël; car les Philistins avaient dit: Empêchons les Hébreux de fabriquer des épées ou des lances.
19 Ní raibh oiread agus aon ghabha amháin i dtír Iosrael go léir, le heagla, a dúirt na Filistínigh leo féin, go ndéanfadh na hEabhraigh claimhte nó sleánna.
19 Y en toda la tierra de Israel no se hallaba herrero; porque los Filisteos habían dicho: Para que los Hebreos no hagan espada ó lanza.
19 Es ward aber kein Schmied im ganzen Lande Israel gefunden, denn die Philister gedachten, die Hebräer möchten sich Schwert und Spieß machen;
20 But all the Israelites had to go to the Philistines to get their ploughs and blades and axes and hooks made sharp;
20 Et chaque homme en Israël descendait chez les Philistins pour aiguiser son soc, son hoyau, sa hache et sa bêche,
20 Ach théadh na hIosraelaigh go léir síos go dtí na Filistínigh chun faobhar a chur ar gach céachta agus matóg, tua agus brod.
20 Y todos los de Israel descendían á los Filisteos cada cual á amolar su reja, su azadón, su hacha, ó su sacho,
20 und ganz Israel mußte hinabziehen zu den Philistern, wenn jemand hatte eine Pflugschar, Haue, Beil oder Sense zu schärfen.
21 For they had instruments for putting an edge on their ploughs and blades and forks and axes, and for putting iron points on their ox-driving rods.
21 quand le tranchant des bêches, des hoyaux, des tridents et des haches, était émoussé, et pour redresser les aiguillons.
21 Ba é an costas ná dhá thrian seicil ar chéachtaí agus ar mhatóga, agus trian seicil ar fhaobhar a chur ar thuanna, agus ar bhroid a dheisiú.
21 Y cuando se hacían bocas en las rejas, ó en los azadones, ó en las horquillas, ó en las hachas; hasta para una ahijada que se hubiera de componer.
21 Und die Schneiden an den Sensen und Hauen und Gabeln und Beilen waren abgearbeitet und die Stachel stumpf geworden.
22 So on the day of the fight at Michmash, not a sword or a spear was to be seen in the hands of any of the people with Saul and Jonathan: only Saul and his son Jonathan had them.
22 Il arriva qu'au jour du combat il ne se trouvait ni épée ni lance entre les mains de tout le peuple qui était avec Saül et Jonathan; il ne s'en trouvait qu'auprès de Saül et de Jonathan, son fils.
22 Lá catha [Mhicmeáis] ní raibh duine ar bith d'arm Shóil agus Iónátán a raibh claíomh ná sleá ina láimh seachas Sól agus a mhac Iónátán.
22 Así aconteció que el día de la batalla no se halló espada ni lanza en mano de alguno de todo el pueblo que estaba con Saúl y con Jonathán, excepto Saúl y Jonathán su hijo, que las tenían.
22 Da nun der Streittag kam, ward kein Schwert noch Spieß gefunden in des ganzen Volkes Hand, das mit Saul und Jonathan war; nur Saul und sein Sohn Jonathan hatten Waffen.
23 And the armed force of the Philistines went out to the narrow way of Michmash.
23 Un poste de Philistins vint s'établir au passage de Micmasch.
