Deuteronomy 31

1 Give ear, O heavens, to my voice; let the earth take note of the words of my mouth:

1 Éistigí, a spéartha, go labhraí mé! éisteadh an talamh le briathra mo bhéil.

2 My teaching is dropping like rain, coming down like dew on the fields; like rain on the young grass and showers on the garden plants:

2 Go dtite mo theagasc mar an fhearthainn; go sile mo ghlór mar an drúcht mar an fhearthainn bhog ar an bhféar bláith, agus mar cheathanna ar lusra an bháin.

3 For I will give honour to the name of the Lord: let our God be named great.

3 Óir fógróidh mé ainm an Tiarna. Cuirigí in iúl mórgacht ár nDé!

4 He is the Rock, complete is his work; for all his ways are righteousness: a God without evil who keeps faith, true and upright is he.

4 Eisean an Charraig, níl locht ar a shaothar, mar is fíréan iad a bhealaí go léir. Dia dílis é gan éagoir; eisean an Chóir féin agus an Ceart.

5 They have become false, they are not his children, the mark of sin is on them; they are an evil and hard-hearted generation.

5 Rinneadar coirpeacht, an chlann a ghin sé gan cháim; ál fealltach cam iad.

6 Is this your answer to the Lord, O foolish people and unwise? Is he not your father who has given you life? He has made you and given you your place.

6 An mar sin a dhíolann sibh an comhar leis an Tiarna? Nach baoth éaganta an pobal sibh! Nach é d'athair é a chruthaigh thú, a dhealbhaigh thú agus a bhunaigh thú?

7 Keep in mind the days of the past, give thought to the years of generations gone by: go to your father and he will make it clear to you, to the old men and they will give you the story.

7 Cuimhnigh ar na laethanta a bhí, agus machtnaigh ar na blianta ó ghlúin go glúin. Cuir ceist ar d'athair agus tabharfaidh sé fios duit agus ar do sheanóirí agus cuirfidh siad ar an eolas thú.

8 When the Most High gave the nations their heritage, separating into groups the children of men, he had the limits of the peoples marked out, keeping in mind the number of the children of Israel.

8 Nuair a bhronn an Té is Airde a n‑oidhreacht ar na ciníocha, nuair a roinn sé clann Ádhaimh, leag sé síos a dteorainneacha de réir líon chlann [Dé].

9 For the Lord's wealth is his people; Jacob is the land of his heritage.

9 Ach a mhuintir féin cuid an Tiarna, agus Iacób an oidhreacht a thit air.

10 He came to him in the waste land, in the unpeopled waste of sand: putting his arms round him and caring for him, he kept him as the light of his eye.

10 Fuair sé sa díthreabh é, i bhfásach uallairte an fhiántais. Cumhdaíonn sé é, oileann é agus cosnaíonn mar mhac imreasan a shúile.

11 As an eagle, teaching her young to make their flight, with her wings outstretched over them, takes them up on her strong feathers:

11 Mar iolar ag faire a neide, ar foluain os cionn a ghearrcach, leathann sé a sciatháin le breith air agus cuireann a eiteoga leis mar theannta.

12 So the Lord only was his guide, no other god was with him.

12 An Tiarna amháin a threoraí, níl aon dia deoranta fairis.

13 He put him on the high places of the earth, his food was the increase of the field; honey he gave him out of the rock and oil out of the hard rock;

13 Tugann sé arda na cruinne dó le marcaíocht tharstu, agus beathaíonn sé é le toradh na sléibhte; tugann sé mil ón gcarraig le deol dó, agus ola ón gcarraig scáil;

13 Hízolo subir sobre las alturas de la tierra, Y comió los frutos del campo, E hizo que chupase miel de la peña, Y aceite del duro pedernal;

14 Butter from his cows and milk from his sheep, with fat of lambs and sheep of Bashan, and goats, and the heart of the grain; and for your drink, wine from the blood of the grape.

15 But Jeshurun became fat and would not be controlled: you have become fat, you are thick and full of food: then he was untrue to the God who made him, giving no honour to the Rock of his salvation.

15 [Chaith Iacób bia agus bhí a sháith aige;] Thit Isiriún chun feola agus thug speach. [Thit tú chun feola, chun méithris agus chun gaoithe.] Thréig sé an Dia a rinne é, mhaslaigh sé Carraig a shlánaithe.

16 The honour which was his they gave to strange gods; by their disgusting ways he was moved to wrath.

16 Ils ont excité sa jalousie par des dieux étrangers, Ils l'ont irrité par des abominations;

17 They made offerings to evil spirits which were not God, to gods who were strange to them, which had newly come up, not feared by your fathers.

17 Rinneadar íobairt do dheamhain nach Dia, do dhéithe nárbh aithnid dóibh riamh, núíosaigh an lae inné, nárbh eagal lena n‑aithreacha riamh.

18 You have no thought for the Rock, your father, you have no memory of the God who gave you birth.

18 Tu as abandonné le rocher qui t'a fait naître, Et tu as oublié le Dieu qui t'a engendré.

18 [Níor chuimhin leat an Charraig a ghin thú, agus rinne tú dearmad den Dia a ba athair agat.]

19 And the Lord saw with disgust the evil-doing of his sons and daughters.

19 Chonaic an Tiarna é seo agus le barr feirge chaith sé uaidh a chlann mhac agus iníonacha.

20 And he said, My face will be veiled from them, I will see what their end will be: for they are an uncontrolled generation, children in whom is no faith.

20 “Déanfaidh mé mo ghnúis a fholach orthu,” ar sé, agus feicfidh mé cén chríoch a bheidh orthu. Óir is ál fealltach iad, clann gan dílseacht iontu.”

20 und er sprach: Ich will mein Antlitz vor ihnen verbergen, will sehen, was ihnen zuletzt widerfahren wird; denn es ist eine verkehrte Art, es sind untreue Kinder.

21 They have given my honour to that which is not God, moving me to wrath with their false worship: I will give their honour to those who are not a people, moving them to wrath by a foolish nation,

22 For my wrath is a flaming fire, burning to the deep parts of the underworld, burning up the earth with her increase, and firing the deep roots of the mountains.

22 Las tine as mo fhearg, agus dófaidh sí go híochtar Sheól; alpfaidh sí an talamh agus a thoradh go léir, loiscfidh sí máithreacha na sléibhte.

23 I will send a rain of troubles on them, my arrows will be showered on them.

23 Déanfaidh mé urchóidí a chruachadh orthu, agus is leo a chaithfidh mé mo shaigheada go léir.

23 Ich will alles Unglück über sie häufen, ich will meine Pfeile in sie schießen.

24 They will be wasted from need of food, and overcome by burning heat and bitter destruction; and the teeth of beasts I will send on them, with the poison of the worms of the dust.

24 Beidh sciobóil ghorta mar airm agam; galar agus eitinn mar nimh.

25 Outside they will be cut off by the sword, and in the inner rooms by fear; death will take the young man and the virgin, the baby at the breast and the grey-haired man.

25 Lasmuigh déanfaidh an claíomh eirleach ar a gclann, agus laistigh beidh an scéin i réim. Ní mhairfidh ógfhear nó ógbhean, an leanbh cíche ná an seanduine liath.

26 I said I would send them wandering far away, I would make all memory of them go from the minds of men:

26 “Ba chóir dom iad a scaipeadh i gcéin,” a déarfainn “agus iad a scrios ó chuimhne daoine,”

27 But for the fear that their haters, uplifted in their pride, might say, Our hand is strong, the Lord has not done all this.

27 mura mbeadh gurb eagal liom maíomh an namhad, le heagla go dtabharfadh a n‑eascairde breith bhréagach, le heagla go ndéarfaidís: “Tá an lá lenár neart! Níl aon bhaint ag an Tiarna leis seo go léir!”

28 For they are a nation without wisdom; there is no sense in them.

28 Is náisiún gan chomhairle iad!

29 If only they were wise, if only this was clear to them, and they would give thought to their future!

29 Dá mbeidís eagnaí, thuigfidís é seo, bheadh léamh acu ar an gcríoch atá i ndán dóibh.

30 How would it be possible for one to overcome a thousand, and two to send ten thousand in flight, if their rock had not let them go, if the Lord had not given them up?

30 Conas a d'fhéadfadh duine an teitheadh a chur ar mhíle agus beirt ar dheich míle, murar dhíol a gCarraig iad agus gur thug an Tiarna ar láimh iad?

31 For their rock is not like our Rock, even our haters themselves being judges.

31 Óir níl a gcarraigsean mar ár gCarraigne; ní himpígh ár naimhde.

32 For their vine is the vine of Sodom, from the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are the grapes of evil, and the berries are bitter:

32 Mais leur vigne est du plant de Sodome Et du terroir de Gomorrhe; Leurs raisins sont des raisins empoisonnés, Leurs grappes sont amères;

32 Óir is d'fhiniúin Shodom dá bhfiniúin agus ó dhoirí Ghomorá. Caora nimhe a gcaora, crobhaingí searbha a gcrobhaingí.

32 Denn ihr Weinstock ist vom Weinstock zu Sodom und von dem Acker Gomorras; ihre Trauben sind Galle, sie haben bittere Beeren;

33 Their wine is the poison of dragons, the cruel poison of snakes.

33 Nimh nathracha a bhfíon, agus goimh dhanartha asp.

34 Is not this among my secrets, kept safe in my store-house?

34 Ach eisean, nach seoid luachmhar chánach agam é arna cumhdach i mo chiste?

35 Punishment is mine and reward, at the time of the slipping of their feet: for the day of their downfall is near, sudden will be their fate.

35 Liomsa an díoltas, agus an cúiteamh, i gcomhair an lae nuair a shleamhnóidh a gcos. Óir tá lá a scriosta in achmaireacht agus tá a dtubaiste ar sodar faoina ndéin.

36 For the Lord will be judge of his people, he will have pity for his servants; when he sees that their power is gone, there is no one, shut up or free.

36 [Óir tabharfaidh an Tiarna breith i bhfabhar a phobail, agus beidh trua aige dá shearbhóntaí.] Óir feicfidh sé gur thréig a gcumhacht, agus nach bhfuil aon duine fágtha, daor ná saor.

37 And he will say, Where are their gods, the rock in which they put their faith?

37 Fiafróidh sé ansin: “Cá bhfuil a ndéithe? - an charraig inar chuireadar muinín,

37 Y dirá: ¿Dónde están sus dioses, La roca en que se guarecían;

38 Who took the fat of their offerings, and the wine of their drink offering? Let them now come to your help, let them be your salvation.

38 an té a d'ith saill a n‑íobairtí, agus a d'ól fíon a n‑íobairtí dí?

39 See now, I myself am he; there is no other god but me: giver of death and life, wounding and making well: and no one has power to make you free from my hand.

Is mé údar an bháis agus údar na beatha Nuair a bhuailim, is mé a leigheasann [agus níl duine a dhéanfadh fuascailt as mo láimh].

40 For lifting up my hand to heaven I say, By my unending life,

40 Sea, ardaím mo lámh chun neimhe, agus mionnaím dar mo bheo go deo:

40 Denn ich will meine Hand in den Himmel heben und will sagen: Ich lebe ewiglich.

41 If I make sharp my shining sword, and my hand is outstretched for judging, I will give punishment to those who are against me, and their right reward to my haters.

41 Si j'aiguise l'éclair de mon épée Et si ma main saisit la justice, Je me vengerai de mes adversaires Et je punirai ceux qui me haïssent;

41 Nuair a bheidh faobhar ar mo chlaíomh lonrach, agus go dtéim i mbun cúis na córa, déanfaidh mé díoltas a imirt ar mo naimhde, agus díolfaidh mé an comhar le lucht m'fhuatha.

42 I will make my arrows red with blood, my sword will be feasting on flesh, with the blood of the dead and the prisoners, of the long-haired heads of my haters.

42 Cuirfidh mé meisce fola ar mo shaigheada, agus slogfaidh mo chlaíomh feoil ina chraos fuil na gcrólíoch agus na gcimí, agus cloigne cheannairí an namhad.”

43 Be glad, O you his people, over the nations; for he will take payment for the blood of his servants, and will give punishment to his haters, and take away the sin of his land, for his people.

43 [A spéartha, déanaigí lúcháir in éineacht leis! Tugadh clann Dé urraim dó!] A náisiúna, déanaigí lúcháir lena phobal; tráchtadh teachtairí Dé ar a chumhacht! Óir déanfaidh sé fuil a shearbhóntaí a dhíolt, agus díolfaidh sé an comhar lena naimhde.

44 So Moses said all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he and Hoshea, the son of Nun.

44 Tháinig Maois agus [Iósua] mac Nún agus d'aithris siad focail na laoi sin go léir i gcomhchlos an phobail.

45 And after saying all this to the people,

45 Nuair a bhí an clabhsúr ag Maois ag aithris na mbriathra sin go léir do chlann Iosrael uile,

45 Y acabó Moisés de recitar todas estas palabras á todo Israel;

45 Da nun Mose solches alles ausgeredet hatte zum ganzen Israel,

46 Moses said to them, Let the words which I have said to you today go deep into your hearts, and give orders to your children to do every word of this law.

46 dúirt sé leo: “Gabhaigí chugaibh i gcochall bhur gcroí na briathra go léir a d'aithin mé daoibh inniu; ní foláir daoibh a ordú do bhur gclann briathra uile an dlí seo a choimeád le barr cúraim.

47 And this is no small thing for you, but it is your life, and through this you may make your days long in the land which you are going over Jordan to take for your heritage.

47 Óir ní aon ghnó suarach a bheidh á dhéanamh agaibh, mar is é bhur mbeatha é, agus dá bhíthin beidh fad saoil agaibh sa tír a bhfuil sibh ag dul thar Iordáin anonn lena shealbhú.”

48 That same day the Lord said to Moses,

48 Labhair an Tiarna le Maois an lá sin féin agus dúirt sé leis:

49 Go up into this mountain of Abarim, to Mount Nebo in the land of Moab opposite Jericho; there you may see the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel for their heritage:

49 “Gabh suas ar Shliabh Neabó, i sliabhraon seo Abáraím, i dtír Mhóáb sall ó Ireachó; agus féach uait ar thír Chanán atáim a thabhairt mar fhearann dílis do chlann Iosrael.

49 Sube á este monte de Abarim, al monte Nebo, que está en la tierra de Moab, que está en derecho de Jericó, y mira la tierra de Canaán, que yo doy por heredad á los hijos de Israel;

50 And let death come to you on the mountain where you are going, and be put to rest with your people; as death came to Aaron, your brother, on Mount Hor, where he was put to rest with his people:

50 Faigh bás ar an gcnoc ar a rachaidh tú agus cruinnítear chun do mhuintire thú, faoi mar a fuair Árón do dheartháir bás ar Shliabh Hor agus a cruinníodh chun a mhuintire é.

51 Because of your sin against me before the children of Israel at the waters of Meribath Kadesh in the waste land of Zin; because you did not keep my name holy among the children of Israel.

51 Óir rinne sibh feall ar iontaoibh liom i measc chlann Iosrael an uair úd ag Miríbeat Cáidéis, i bhfásach Zin; mar níor thaispeáin sibh mo naofacht i measc chlann Iosrael.

51 darum daß ihr euch an mir versündigt habt unter den Kindern Israel bei dem Haderwasser zu Kades in der Wüste Zin, daß ihr mich nicht heiligtet unter den Kindern Israel;

52 So you will see the land before you, but you will not go into the land which I am giving to the children of Israel.

52 Ní fheicfidh tú an tír ach i gcéin uait; ní féidir duit dul ann, isteach sa tír sé sin atá á thabhairt agam do chlann Iosrael.”
