1 Now Jacob, hearing that there was grain in Egypt, said to his sons, Why are you looking at one another?
1 Jacob, voyant qu'il y avait du blé en Égypte, dit à ses fils: Pourquoi vous regardez-vous les uns les autres?
1 Chuala Iacób go raibh arbhar ar díol san Éigipt agus dúirt sé lena chlann mhac: “Cad a ba áil libh féachaint ar a chéile?
1 Y Viendo Jacob que en Egipto había alimentos, dijo á sus hijos: ¿Por qué os estáis mirando?
1 Da aber Jakob sah, daß Getreide in Ägypten feil war, sprach er zu seinen Söhnen: Was sehet ihr euch lange um?
2 And he said, I have had news that there is grain in Egypt: go down there and get grain for us, so that life and not death may be ours.
2 Il dit: Voici, j'apprends qu'il y a du blé en Égypte; descendez-y, pour nous en acheter là, afin que nous vivions et que nous ne mourions pas.
2 Is clos dom, féach!” ar sé, “go bhfuil arbhar san Éigipt; téigí ansiúd síos agus ceannaigí arbhar ann dúinn ionas go mairfimid agus nach bhfaighimid bás.”
2 Y dijo: He aquí, yo he oído que hay víveres en Egipto; descended allá, y comprad de allí para nosotros, para que podamos vivir, y no nos muramos.
2 Siehe, ich höre, es sei in Ägypten Getreide feil; zieht hinab und kauft uns Getreide, daß wir leben und nicht sterben.
3 So Joseph's ten brothers went down to get grain from Egypt.
3 Dix frères de Joseph descendirent en Égypte, pour acheter du blé.

3 Y descendieron los diez hermanos de José á comprar trigo á Egipto.
3 Also zogen hinab zehn Brüder Josephs, daß sie in Ägypten Getreide kauften.
4 But Jacob did not send Benjamin, Joseph's brother, with them, for fear, as he said, that some evil might come to him.
4 Jacob n'envoya point avec eux Benjamin, frère de Joseph, dans la crainte qu'il ne lui arrivât quelque malheur.
4 Ach níor chuir Iacób Biniáimin, deartháir Iósaef, lena dheartháireacha. “Ní foláir,” ar sé, “gan aon ní a thitim amach dó.”
4 Mas Jacob no envió á Benjamín hermano de José con sus hermanos; porque dijo: No sea acaso que le acontezca algún desastre.
4 Aber den Benjamin, Josephs Bruder, ließ Jakob nicht mit seinen Brüdern ziehen; denn er sprach: Es möchte ihm ein Unfall begegnen.
5 And the sons of Israel came with all the others to get grain: for they were very short of food in the land of Canaan.
5 Les fils d'Israël vinrent pour acheter du blé, au milieu de ceux qui venaient aussi; car la famine était dans le pays de Canaan.
5 Tháinig clann Iosraél dá réir sin, fara daoine eile a bhí ag déanamh an turais chéanna, chun arbhar a cheannach mar go raibh gorta i dtír Chanán.
5 Y vinieron los hijos de Israel á comprar entre los que venían: porque había hambre en la tierra de Canaán.
5 Also kamen die Kinder Israels, Getreide zu kaufen, samt anderen, die mit ihnen zogen; denn es war im Lande Kanaan auch teuer.
6 Now Joseph was ruler over all the land, and it was he who gave out the grain to all the people of the land; and Joseph's brothers came before him and went down on their faces to the earth.
6 Joseph commandait dans le pays; c'est lui qui vendait du blé à tout le peuple du pays. Les frères de Joseph vinrent, et se prosternèrent devant lui la face contre terre.
6 Ba é Iósaef a bhí i gceannas ar an tír agus is é a bhí ag díol le gach a dtáinig. Agus tháinig deartháireacha Iósaef agus shléachtadar síos go talamh dó.
6 Y José era el señor de la tierra, que vendía á todo el pueblo de la tierra: y llegaron los hermanos de José, é inclináronse á él rostro por tierra.
6 Aber Joseph war der Regent im Lande und verkaufte Getreide allem Volk im Lande. Da nun seine Brüder kamen, fielen sie vor ihm nieder zur Erde auf ihr Antlitz.
7 And when Joseph saw his brothers, it was clear to him who they were, but he made himself strange to them, and talking roughly to them, said, Where do you come from? And they said, From the land of Canaan, to get food.
7 Joseph vit ses frères et les reconnut; mais il feignit d'être un étranger pour eux, il leur parla durement, et leur dit: D'où venez-vous? Ils répondirent: Du pays de Canaan, pour acheter des vivres.
7 Nuair a chonaic Iósaef a dheartháireacha, d'aithin sé iad, ach ní dhearna sé ach caitheamh leo mar a dhéanfadh le daoine deoranta agus labhairt leo go borb: “Cad as daoibh?” ar sé. “Ó thír Chanán,” ar siad, “a thángamar chun bia a cheannach.”
7 Y José como vió á sus hermanos, conociólos; mas hizo que no los conocía, y hablóles ásperamente, y les dijo: ¿De dónde habéis venido? Ellos respondieron: De la tierra de Canaán á comprar alimentos.
7 Und er sah sie an und kannte sie und stellte sich fremd gegen sie und redete hart mit ihnen und sprach zu ihnen: Woher kommt ihr? Sie sprachen: Aus dem Lande Kanaan, Speise zu kaufen.
8 Now though Joseph saw that these were his brothers, they had no idea who he was.
8 Joseph reconnut ses frères, mais eux ne le reconnurent pas.
8 Sea, d'aithin Iósaef a dheartháireacha, ach níor aithin siadsan é.
8 José, pues, conoció á sus hermanos; pero ellos no le conocieron.
8 Aber wiewohl er sie kannte, kannten sie ihn doch nicht.
9 Then the memory of his dreams about them came back to Joseph, and he said to them, You have come secretly to see how poor the land is.
9 Joseph se souvint des songes qu'il avait eus à leur sujet, et il leur dit: Vous êtes des espions; c'est pour observer les lieux faibles du pays que vous êtes venus.
9 Chuimhnigh Iósaef ar na taibhrimh a bhí aige ina dtaobh agus dúirt sé: “Spiairí sibh,” ar sé, “agus chun faisnéis a fháil ar bhaill laga na tíre a tháinig sibh.”
9 Entonces se acordó José de los sueños que había tenido de ellos, y díjoles: Espías sois; por ver lo descubierto del país habéis venido.
9 Und Joseph gedachte an die Träume, die ihm von ihnen geträumt hatten, und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr seid Kundschafter und seid gekommen zu sehen, wo das Land offen ist.
10 And they said to him, Not so, my lord: your servants have come with money to get food.
10 Ils lui répondirent: Non, mon seigneur, tes serviteurs sont venus pour acheter du blé.
10 “Ní hea ar aon chor,” ar siad, “ach is chun bia a cheannach a tháinig do shearbhóntaí.
10 Y ellos le respondieron: No, señor mío: mas tus siervos han venido á comprar alimentos.
10 Sie antworteten ihm: Nein, mein Herr; deine Knechte sind gekommen Speise zu kaufen.
11 We are all one man's sons, we are true men; we have not come with any secret purpose.
11 Nous sommes tous fils d'un même homme; nous sommes sincères, tes serviteurs ne sont pas des espions.
11 Clann an aon fhir amháin sinn go léir, agus daoine macánta; ní spiairí do shearbhóntaí.”
11 Todos nosotros somos hijos de un varón: somos hombres de verdad: tus siervos nunca fueron espías.
11 Wir sind alle eines Mannes Söhne; wir sind redlich, und deine Knechte sind nie Kundschafter gewesen.
12 And he said to them, No, but you have come to see how poor the land is.
12 Il leur dit: Nullement; c'est pour observer les lieux faibles du pays que vous êtes venus.
12 “Ní fíor sin,” ar sé leo, “ach is chun baill laga na tíre a fháil amach a tháinig sibh.”
12 Y él les dijo: No; á ver lo descubierto del país habéis venido.
12 Er sprach zu ihnen: Nein, sondern ihr seid gekommen, zu ersehen, wo das Land offen ist.
13 Then they said, We your servants are twelve brothers, sons of one man in the land of Canaan; the youngest of us is now with our father, and one is dead.
13 Ils répondirent: Nous, tes serviteurs, sommes douze frères, fils d'un même homme au pays de Canaan; et voici, le plus jeune est aujourd'hui avec notre père, et il y en a un qui n'est plus.
13 D'fhreagraíodar: “Dháréag dearthár, clann an aon fhir amháin i dtír Chanán, is ea sinne, do shearbhóntaí; agus féach tá an sóisear fós anois fara ár n‑athair, agus tá duine nach maireann.”
13 Y ellos respondieron: Tus siervos somos doce hermanos, hijos de un varón en la tierra de Canaán; y he aquí el menor está hoy con nuestro padre, y otro no parece.
13 Sie antworteten ihm: Wir, deine Knechte, sind zwölf Brüder, eines Mannes Söhne im Lande Kanaan, und der jüngste ist noch bei unserm Vater; aber der eine ist nicht mehr vorhanden.
14 And Joseph said, It is as I said; you have come with some secret purpose;
14 Joseph leur dit: Je viens de vous le dire, vous êtes des espions.
14 Ach d'fhreagair Iósaef iad: “Tá an scéal mar a dúirt mé; is spiairí sibh.
14 Y José les dijo: Eso es lo que os he dicho, afirmando que sois espías:
14 Joseph sprach zu ihnen: Das ist's, was ich euch gesagt habe: Kundschafter seid ihr.
15 But in this way will you be put to the test: by the life of Pharaoh, you will not go away from this place till your youngest brother comes here.
15 Voici comment vous serez éprouvés. Par la vie de Pharaon! vous ne sortirez point d'ici que votre jeune frère ne soit venu.
15 Seo é an promhadh a chaithfidh sibh a shásamh: dar anam Fhorainn, ní fhágfaidh sibh an áit seo mura dtaga an deartháir is óige agaibh anseo.
15 En esto seréis probados: Vive Faraón que no saldréis de aquí, sino cuando vuestro hermano menor aquí viniere.
15 Daran will ich euch prüfen; bei dem Leben Pharaos! ihr sollt nicht von dannen kommen, es komme denn her euer jüngster Bruder.
16 Send one of your number to get your brother, and the rest of you will be kept in prison, so that your words may be tested to see if you are true; if not, by the life of Pharaoh, your purpose is certainly secret.
16 Envoyez l'un de vous pour chercher votre frère; et vous, restez prisonniers. Vos paroles seront éprouvées, et je saurai si la vérité est chez vous; sinon, par la vie de Pharaon! vous êtes des espions.
16 Seolaigí duine daoibh féin ag triall ar bhur ndeartháir; fanfaidh an chuid eile agaibh i ngéibheann i dtreo go ndéanfaí bhur scéal a phromhadh féachaint an lucht fírinne sibh nó nach ea; agus murab ea, dar anam Fhorainn, is spiairí sibh go cinnte.”
16 Enviad uno de vosotros, y traiga á vuestro hermano; y vosotros quedad presos, y vuestras palabras serán probadas, si hay verdad con vosotros: y si no, vive Faraón, que sois espías.
16 Sendet einen unter euch hin, der euren Bruder hole; ihr aber sollt gefangen sein. Also will ich prüfen eure Rede, ob ihr mit Wahrheit umgeht oder nicht. Denn wo nicht, so seid ihr, bei dem Leben Pharaos! Kundschafter.
17 So he put them in prison for three days.
17 Et il les mit ensemble trois jours en prison.

17 Y juntólos en la cárcel por tres días.
17 Und er ließ sie beisammen verwahren drei Tage lang.
18 And on the third day Joseph said to them, Do this, if you would keep your lives: for I am a god-fearing man:
18 Le troisième jour, Joseph leur dit: Faites ceci, et vous vivrez. Je crains Dieu!
18 Ar an tríú lá dúirt Iósaef leo: “Déanaigí mar seo, agus ní baol daoibh an bás, mar is duine mé ar a bhfuil eagla Dé;
18 Y al tercer día díjoles José: Haced esto, y vivid: Yo temo á Dios:
18 Am dritten Tage aber sprach er zu ihnen: Wollt ihr leben, so tut also; denn ich fürchte Gott.
19 If you are true men, let one of you be kept in prison, while you go and take grain for the needs of your families;
19 Si vous êtes sincères, que l'un de vos frères reste enfermé dans votre prison; et vous, partez, emportez du blé pour nourrir vos familles,
19 más dream macánta sibh, fanadh deartháir agaibh sa charcair ina bhfuil sibh agus téadh an chuid eile le harbhar chun fóirithint ar ghátar bhur dteaghlach.
19 Si sois hombres de verdad, quede preso en la casa de vuestra cárcel uno de vuestros hermanos; y vosotros id, llevad el alimento para el hambre de vuestra casa:
19 Seid ihr redlich, so laßt eurer Brüder einen gebunden liegen in eurem Gefängnis; ihr aber zieht hin und bringet heim, was ihr gekauft habt für den Hunger.
20 And come back to me with your youngest brother, so that your words may be seen to be true, and you will not be put to death. This is what you are to do.
20 et amenez-moi votre jeune frère, afin que vos paroles soient éprouvées et que vous ne mouriez point. Et ils firent ainsi.
20 Agus tugaigí an deartháir is óige agaibh chugamsa, i dtreo go bhfíorófaí bhur scéal agus sibh a dhul slán ón mbás.” Rinneadar amhlaidh.
20 Pero habéis de traerme á vuestro hermano menor, y serán verificadas vuestras palabras, y no moriréis. Y ellos lo hicieron así.
20 Und bringt euren jüngsten Bruder zu mir, so will ich euren Worten glauben, daß ihr nicht sterben müßt. Und sie taten also.
21 And they said to one another, Truly, we did wrong to our brother, for we saw his grief of mind, and we did not give ear to his prayers; that is why this trouble has come on us.
21 Ils se dirent alors l'un à l'autre: Oui, nous avons été coupables envers notre frère, car nous avons vu l'angoisse de son âme, quand il nous demandait grâce, et nous ne l'avons point écouté! C'est pour cela que cette affliction nous arrive.
21 Ansin dúradar le chéile: “Go deimhin féin tá ár ndeartháir á agairt orainn! Chonaiceamar a bhuaireamh anama agus é ag impí orainn agus gan aon aird againn air. Uime sin a tháinig an buaireamh seo orainn.”
21 Y decían el uno al otro: Verdaderamente hemos pecado contra nuestro hermano, que vimos la angustia de su alma cuando nos rogaba, y no le oímos: por eso ha venido sobre nosotros esta angustia.
21 Sie aber sprachen untereinander: Das haben wir uns an unserm Bruder verschuldet, daß wir sahen die Angst seiner Seele, da er uns anflehte, und wir wollten ihn nicht erhören; darum kommt nun diese Trübsal über uns.
22 And Reuben said to them, Did I not say to you, Do the child no wrong? but you gave no attention; so now, punishment has come on us for his blood.
22 Ruben, prenant la parole, leur dit: Ne vous disais-je pas: Ne commettez point un crime envers cet enfant? Mais vous n'avez point écouté. Et voici, son sang est redemandé.
22 D'fhreagair Reúbaen: “Nach ndúirt mise libh gan coir a dhéanamh in aghaidh an bhuachalla? Ach thug sibh an chluas bhodhar dom agus seo anois a fhuil á hagairt orainn!”
22 Entonces Rubén les respondió, diciendo: ¿No os hablé yo y dije: No pequéis contra el mozo; y no escuchásteis? He aquí también su sangre es requerida.
22 Ruben antwortete ihnen und sprach: Sagte ich's euch nicht, da ich sprach: Versündigt euch nicht an dem Knaben, und ihr wolltet nicht hören? Nun wird sein Blut gefordert.
23 They were not conscious that the sense of their words was clear to Joseph, for he had been talking to them through one who had knowledge of their language.
23 Ils ne savaient pas que Joseph comprenait, car il se servait avec eux d'un interprète.
23 Ní raibh a fhios acu gur thuig Iósaef iad, mar bhí teanga labhartha eatarthu.
23 Y ellos no sabían que los entendía José, porque había intérprete entre ellos.
23 Sie wußten aber nicht, daß es Joseph verstand; denn er redete mit ihnen durch einen Dolmetscher.
24 And turning away from them, he was overcome with weeping; then he went on talking to them again and took Simeon and put chains on him before their eyes.
24 Il s'éloigna d'eux, pour pleurer. Il revint, et leur parla; puis il prit parmi eux Siméon, et le fit enchaîner sous leurs yeux.
24 D'iompaigh seisean i leataobh agus ghoil; ansin d'fhill orthu agus labhair leo; agus thóg sé Simeon uathu agus chuir cuibhreacha air os comhair a súl. Filleann Clann Iacóib
24 Y apartóse él de ellos, y lloró: después volvió á ellos, y les habló, y tomó de entre ellos á Simeón, y aprisionóle á vista de ellos.
24 Und er wandte sich von ihnen und weinte. Da er nun sich wieder zu ihnen wandte und mit ihnen redete, nahm er aus ihnen Simeon und band ihn vor ihren Augen.
25 Then Joseph gave orders for their bags to be made full of grain, and for every man's money to be put back into his bag, and for food to be given them for the journey: which was done.
25 Joseph ordonna qu'on remplît de blé leurs sacs, qu'on remît l'argent de chacun dans son sac, et qu'on leur donnât des provisions pour la route. Et l'on fit ainsi.
25 D'ordaigh Iósaef ansin a gcléibh a líonadh d'arbhar agus airgead gach duine a chur ar ais ina mhála agus lón bóthair a thabhairt dóibh. Rinneadh amhlaidh dóibh.
25 Y mandó José que llenaran sus sacos de trigo, y devolviesen el dinero de cada uno de ellos, poniéndolo en su saco, y les diesen comida para el camino: é hízose así con ellos.
25 Und Joseph tat Befehl, daß man ihre Säcke mit Getreide füllte und ihr Geld wiedergäbe, einem jeglichen in seinen Sack, dazu auch Zehrung auf den Weg; und man tat ihnen also.
26 Then they put the bags of grain on their asses and went away.
26 Ils chargèrent le blé sur leurs ânes, et partirent.
26 Ansin chuireadar a n‑ualach arbhair ar a gcuid asal agus d'imíodar leo.
26 Y ellos pusieron su trigo sobre sus asnos, y fuéronse de allí.
26 Und sie luden ihre Ware auf ihre Esel und zogen von dannen.
27 Now at their night's resting-place one of them, opening his bag to give his ass some food, saw his money in the mouth of the bag.
27 L'un d'eux ouvrit son sac pour donner du fourrage à son âne, dans le lieu où ils passèrent la nuit, et il vit l'argent qui était à l'entrée du sac.
27 Nuair a d'oscail duine díobh a mhála chun bia a thabhairt dá asal mar a rabhadar chun fanacht thar oíche, chonaic sé a chuid airgid i mbéal an mhála.
27 Y abriendo uno de ellos su saco para dar de comer á su asno en el mesón, vió su dinero que estaba en la boca de su costal.
27 Da aber einer seinen Sack auftat, daß er seinem Esel Futter gäbe in der Herberge, ward er gewahr seines Geldes, das oben im Sack lag,
28 And he said to his brothers, My money has been given back: it is in my bag; then their hearts became full of fear, and turning to one another they said, What is this which God has done to us?
28 Il dit à ses frères: Mon argent a été rendu, et le voici dans mon sac. Alors leur coeur fut en défaillance; et ils se dirent l'un à l'autre, en tremblant: Qu'est-ce que Dieu nous a fait?
28 Dúirt sé lena dheartháireacha: “Cuireadh mo chuid airgid ar ais! Seo é i mbéal mo mhála!” Thit an lug ar an lag acu ansin: d'fhéachadar ar a chéile agus scéin orthu: “Ceard é seo a rinne Dia linn?” ar siad.
28 Y dijo á sus hermanos: Mi dinero se me ha devuelto, y aun helo aquí en mi saco. Sobresaltóseles entonces el corazón, y espantados dijeron el uno al otro: ¿Qué es esto que nos ha hecho Dios?
28 und sprach zu seinen Brüdern: Mein Geld ist mir wieder geworden; siehe, in meinem Sack ist es. Da entfiel ihnen ihr Herz, und sie erschraken untereinander und sprachen: Warum hat uns Gott das getan?
29 So when they came to Jacob their father, in the land of Canaan, they gave him an account of all their experiences, saying,
29 Ils revinrent auprès de Jacob, leur père, dans le pays de Canaan, et ils lui racontèrent tout ce qui leur était arrivé. Ils dirent:
29 Nuair a d'fhilleadar ar a n‑athair Iacób, i dtír Chanán, d'eachtraíodar dó gach ar tharla dóibh.
29 Y venidos á Jacob su padre en tierra de Canaán, contáronle todo lo que les había acaecido, diciendo:
29 Da sie nun heimkamen zu ihrem Vater Jakob ins Land Kanaan, sagten sie ihm alles, was ihnen begegnet war, und sprachen:
30 The man who is the ruler of the country was rough with us and put us in prison, saying that we had come with a secret evil purpose.
30 L'homme, qui est le seigneur du pays, nous a parlé durement, et il nous a pris pour des espions.
30 “An té is tiarna ar an tír,” ar siad, “labhair sé go borb linn á mheas gur lucht braite ar a thír sinn.
30 Aquel varón, señor de la tierra, nos habló ásperamente, y nos trató como á espías de la tierra:
30 Der Mann, der im Lande Herr ist, redete hart mit uns und hielt uns für Kundschafter des Landes.
31 And we said to him, We are true men, we have no evil designs;
31 Nous lui avons dit: Nous sommes sincères, nous ne sommes pas des espions.
31 Ach dúramar leis: ‘Daoine macánta sinne agus ní spiairí;
31 Y nosotros le dijimos: Somos hombres de verdad, nunca fuimos espías:
31 Und da wir ihm antworteten: Wir sind redlich und nie Kundschafter gewesen,
32 We are twelve brothers, sons of our father; one is dead, and the youngest is now with our father in the land of Canaan.
32 Nous sommes douze frères, fils de notre père; l'un n'est plus, et le plus jeune est aujourd'hui avec notre père au pays de Canaan.
32 tá dháréag dearthár againn ann, mic ár n‑athar; tá duine againn nach maireann agus tá an sóisear fós anois fara ár n‑athair i dtír Chanán.’
32 Somos doce hermanos, hijos de nuestro padre; uno no parece, y el menor está hoy con nuestro padre en la tierra de Canaán.
32 sondern zwölf Brüder, unsers Vaters Söhne, einer ist nicht mehr vorhanden, und der jüngste ist noch bei unserm Vater im Lande Kanaan,
33 And the ruler of the land said, In this way I may be certain that you are true men; let one of you be kept here with me, while you go and take grain for the needs of your families;
33 Et l'homme, qui est le seigneur du pays, nous a dit: Voici comment je saurai si vous êtes sincères. Laissez auprès de moi l'un de vos frères, prenez de quoi nourrir vos familles, partez, et amenez-moi votre jeune frère.
33 Ansin dúirt an té is tiarna ar an tír linn: ‘Ar an gcuma seo a bheidh a fhios agam gur daoine macánta sibh: fágaigí deartháir agaibh anseo liomsa agus imígí libh le harbhar chun fóirithint ar ghátar bhur dteaghlach.
33 Y aquel varón, señor de la tierra, nos dijo: En esto conoceré que sois hombres de verdad; dejad conmigo uno de vuestros hermanos, y tomad para el hambre de vuestras casas, y andad,
33 sprach der Herr des Landes zu uns: Daran will ich merken, ob ihr redlich seid: Einen eurer Brüder laßt bei mir, und nehmt die Notdurft für euer Haus und zieht hin,
34 And come back to me with your youngest brother: then I will be certain that you are true men, and I will give your brother back to you and let you do trade in the land.
34 Je saurai ainsi que vous n'êtes pas des espions, que vous êtes sincères; je vous rendrai votre frère, et vous pourrez librement parcourir le pays.
34 Agus tugaigí an deartháir is óige agaibh chugam; ansin is ea a bheidh a fhios agam gur daoine macánta sibh agus scaoilfidh mé bhur ndeartháir chugaibh, agus féadfaidh sibh bheith ag margáil sa tír.’ ”
34 Y traedme á vuestro hermano el menor, para que yo sepa que no sois espías, sino hombres de verdad: así os daré á vuestro hermano, y negociaréis en la tierra.

37 And Reuben said, Put my two sons to death if I do not come back to you with him; let him be in my care and I will give him safely back to you.
